Wales fan dies at England game
Police say they are continuing to investigate a murder after a Wales fan died following an incident before the match against England at Wembley.
He has been named as Michael Dye, 44, from Cardiff.
Mr Dye died in hospital after being taken there with head injuries after suffering cardiac arrest outside Wembley on Tuesday.
Six men, believed to be Wales supporters, are being questioned at a north London police station.
Scotland Yard said a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
A spokesman said officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating, and inquiries continue "to establish the full circumstances of the incident".
Mr Dye died in hospital shortly before 21:00 BST.
The six arrested are thought to be Wales supporters and police do not believe any England fans were involved.
An incident room has opened at Hendon police station.
Mr Dye, a Cardiff City supporter, worked as a mason for the city's council.
Cardiff Council chief executive Jon House said: "Staff at the authority are devastated at the loss of their colleague and friend who gave almost 20 years of good service to the council in a very specialised service.
"Our thoughts are with his family at this tragic time and we will be offering support to his family and work colleagues."
A dark cloud has descended over Welsh football”

Tributes were being left by supporters at Cardiff City's stadium, while hundreds of fans have left online tributes on a Facebook page to the supporter, known as Mikey.
In a statement on its website Cardiff City FC said: "Late on Tuesday night details reached us concerning a tragedy where a Wales and Cardiff City supporter died at the match between England and Wales.
"Out of respect for the family of the supporter, the sensitivity of the situation and until full details are circumstances are ascertained, no statements will be made until deemed fit by proper channels."
It is not believed inter-club rivalry is behind the incident.
Trefor Lloyd Hughes, vice-president of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), sent sympathies to Mr Dye's family and friends and said his organisation will conduct an inquiry into the incident.
Emergency services were called to a concourse area outside Wembley at about 19:20 BST, following reports of an assault shortly before kick-off.
A Met Police spokesman said: "Officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended. A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, was taken to a north London hospital suffering from head injuries. He was pronounced dead at 8.50pm.
"Police believe they know the man's identity, but await formal identification and confirmation that all next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course."
A London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesman added: "Staff treated a 44-year-old man who had suffered a cardiac arrest. Extensive efforts were made to resuscitate the patient and he was taken to hospital."
Staff on standby at the international match were on the scene within three minutes and was taken to a hospital in north London where he died shortly after.
Ollie Ayton, who was at the match and close by when the incident happened, said he had heard the man fall to the ground.
"I did not see him fall as I was facing the other way but I turned immediately to see him unconscious.
"There did not appear to be any fight before; I cannot confirm this as I did not see it, but there was no excess noise or shouting that signalled a fight.
"My friends and I went to watch the match after we realised we couldn't help.
"I left 85 minutes into the game and there were lots of police officers and the area was cordoned off."
England won the European Championship qualifying match 1-0.

Terrible news.
Wouldn't surprise me if he was set on by some so-called "England fans".
I was sad to see there were a fair few morons among the home support, booing the Welsh national anthem.

You would think that wouldn't you Fernando with all of the supporters in the area.
Terrible affair and a sad day for football in a country supposedly leading the way in terms of erradicating football violence.

Judging by the fact that it was other Welsh fans, it looks like this doesnt really have anything to do with football violence but more to do with a violent act at a football match.
Re: Wales fan dies at England game
Maybe, we'll see what the end result of it all is.
I hope you're going to be better behaved tomorrow night Adam.

Oops. Just skim-read the article and missed that important point.
Well thats fairly unusual. Not often you hear about fans turning on each other, rather than rival supporters. Now I've read it more carefully, it seems like a personal dispute, not football-related.
Still tragic though.

I'd say attacking someone doesnt' make you a mindless thug and not a football fan though. A great shame that it happened at Wembley though.
As for the national anthem booing, both teams did it.

From what I have heard six guys ran at Mike Dye and a friend he was with as they walked to the stadium and jumped them from behind. Both men fell but Mike fell and hit his head on the concrete floor.

The Sun's website are reporting this as a Cardiff/Swansea flare up this morning.
The rest of their coverage is pretty disgusting, they're saying he's a football hooligan -- fair enough, he may be -- but they seem to be lacking in sympathy for the loss of life because of that fact.

The Sun is a complete rag, they can't have an ounce of decency between the lot of the <insert expletive> who work there.
Mike Dye has a partner and children and no matter what has happened in the past shouldn't have to deal with reports like that. But what should anyone expect after the way they reported in the aftermath of Hillsborough.
The police have said they do not think the incident is related to football, obviously those parasites know differently.

The horrible moral-free thugs will no doubt only get away with manslaughter, serving maximum of 5 years. Disgusting anti-humans.

To be fair, irrespective of nationality, the man is a thug.
And being in Worcestershire is right on the border - he could still be a Wales fan.

Well Reddich isn't particularly close to the border I don't think - but where does it say he's English or an England fan?

Re: Wales fan dies at England game
Would it make people feel better if he was a Wales or England fan this is murder it has nothing to do with sport.
The most important thing is that he is now in custody that's one more thug taken off our street.

Cymroglan - I was mostly responding to mckay1402 who seems to have evidence that it was in fact an English fan who caused this death. I was merely asking where he'd got this information from.
Not also that the man has been charged with manslaughter, not murder

Davie again the most important thing is that somebody who killed another man has been taken off our street
What shirt he had on at the time is not important and 1402 should realise that.

Re: Wales fan dies at England game
It is shocking and very pathetic that these apes think it's clever to go round smashing people heads in just because there's a football match on. I love the banter between English/Welsh fans or Scarlets/Ospreys Blues/Dragons fans in rugby - but in football the Swansea/Cardiff and Wales/England abuse and threatening behaviour is just pathetic - there's no other word for it.
I'd think it would be strange if the 6 men from Wocestershire where Welsh fans but as Cymroglan says it's neither here, they are thugs and should be locked up and the key thrown away - as I don't believe their are ever going to change and become a value to society (harsh I know and a bit extreme but I doubt very much when they come out of prison they'll get a decent job/skill and be a positive influence on their communities)
