Burns vs Katsidis
Apologies if this has already been done but anyway:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/14905018.stm
Ricky Burns is to give up his WBO super featherweight world title and move up to lightweight.
The 28-year-old Scot made the decision because it was becoming difficult for him to make the 130lb mark.
Burns' first fight at his new weight will be against interim WBO lightweight champion Michael Katsidis in Glasgow.
The Kelvin Hall, where Burns won his 2010 title fight against Roman Martinez, has been provisionally booked for 12 November.
However, a date has yet to be confirmed for the Coatbridge boxer's debut at his new weight.
Burns' manager, Alex Morrison, told BBC Scotland: "Ricky has always wanted to move up to lightweight.
"He has outgrown the super featherweight division."

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
i think this could prove to be a rude awakening for Burns ala Mitchel, Martinez had him down and Katsidis hits a lot harder and Burns doesn't hit hard enough to put off Katsidis walking forward
Fair play to Burns though for choosing a good first opponent at the weight

I thought they had ducked Broner but if he does fight Katsidis straight off then maybe he is struggling bad with the weight now.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
As much of a cliché as it is, boxing is all about styles and I reckon Burns could cause Katsidis a problem or two.
He isn't brilliant but he (Burns, that is) does have some boxing ability. He won't even consider trying to do a Mitchell, and that'll only help him.
Still think Katsidis wins but not without a bit of trouble.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
Will Burns have the power to stop Katsidis marching forward? Can he keep enough distance between them? Will show us what Burns can do if the fight does come off.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
Perhaps the thinking is that Katsidis will start to show signs of the wars he's been in. It has Warren all over if we see a faded looking Katsidis in the ring come fight night (if the fight is made). To be fair though, at this point I'd also agree that it doesn't appear that they're taking the easy route if this is to be Burns' first fight at lightweight.

World class is a very generous assessment of Burns.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
I was certain he would be in with Alisher Rahimov who is number 1 ranked lightweight by the WBO I think and a much easier way to get in line for a title shot, will be very happy if a Katsidis fight materialises.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
I can see katsidis taking this fairly easy with a mid to late stoppage. Mitchell is better than Burns imo.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
Is Katsidis still the interim champion, even though after beating Mitchell he was beaten by the 'regular' champion in Juan Manuel Marquez and followed by defeat to Robert Guerrero?
I hpoe before I leave this world nterim, super, champion emeritus and legend in my own lunchtime (well maybe not the latter) titles are scrapped.
The likes of Katsidis and Marcos Maidana are exciting to watch but lose to the very best in their divisions by will retire being multi champions without beating a title holder.

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
Really hard fight for Burns, don't know whether he will have the power to hold off Kats, Guerrero hit him with everything but the kitchen sink but couldn't have him out. What would a Kats Maidana fight look like?
Burns would have to hit and be right on his bike to stand a shot and him taking shots from a big puncher at LW? I don't like the thought of it... Struggle to see Burns survive it unless Kats comes in a finished fighter.

If Katsidis's boxing head is on, this is as tough a test as I can imagine. Good luck to him, but I my head says Katsidis will win this fight by ko between rounds 4 and 6

Re: Burns vs Katsidis
A lot depends on what Katsidis has left in the tank and how drained he will be at the weight. After the Guerrero defeat he said he was struggling to make 135lbs and was moving up to 140lbs. His last fight was at 140lbs.
Burns might just be getting him at the right time although with his lack of power I struggle to see how he keeps Katsidis off him.
