No chance, McCullum's still there best-keeper if only he wanted to take the gloves. One of the most athletic keepers of all-time.

Gilly?Flower?Sanga?NOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYYYY in a top 10?
Foster,Read,Prasanna and a host of other keepers are better keepers than them.
And look at some of Hoggy's names.

Would be interested to hear the 5, I can only think of 2 keepers (excluding McCullum) that New Zealand use.

Hopkins, McGlashan, Young and Watling are all of a similar standard.

New Zealand don't use Watling as a keeper.

Foster and Read are much better keepers than McCullum and Sangakarra and have both played Test Cricket.

Because Gilchrist is not one of the 10 best glovemen of all-time?

I agree, he's one of the best wicket-keeper batsman but not keepers.
Re: 10 best tests wicket keepers of all time(purely based on keeping and not batting)
Nayan Mongia was a superb wicket keeper, and was particularly good keeping to Anil Kumble.

Re: 10 best tests wicket keepers of all time(purely based on keeping and not batting)
Anyone who watches cricket at more than just at the 'odd game on SKY' level, should realise that Gilchrist was a brilliantly destructive batsman, one of the best of all time, who was given the gloves because it was felt that a great middle order batsman with gloves is better for the team than a great gloveman who's average at best with the willow.
He started his international career as a keeper who wouldn't get into ANY county team based purely on his abilities behind the wicket, he ended his career having become a passable international keeper, no better than that though.
The same can be said of quite a few so called great keepers though and many keepers, even international ones, shouldn't make any kind of list like this, even if it were a top 50 list, because they're NOT keepers of any note, just good batsmen given the job.

Re: 10 best tests wicket keepers of all time(purely based on keeping and not batting)
Gilly was someone who redefined the role of a WK in a team, but at best he was a good keeper, and nothng more than that. not one to get into a top 50 list just for his glove work alone. Sangakkara, and even Brendan McCullum, similar.
Prasanna Jayawardene, Chris Read, Nayan Mongia, are some of the recent keepers who are better than some of the people in the list.

Ridley Jacobs?
England alone have probably produced 20 keepers better than him.
There are also keepers like Ian Smith, Warren Lees, Wasim Bari and many more.

New Zealand had several wicket-keepers who were more competent glovemen than McCullum. These include Ian Smith, Parore, and Wadsworth.
Other great keepers
Johnny Waite (SA)
Rashid Latif (PK)
Jackie Hendricks (WI)
S Kirmani (Ind)
Bob Taylor (Eng)

Knotty and Jack Russell were the best keepers that I have seen.Knotty standing up to Underwood's pretty sharpish spin on a turning wicket was a wonder to behold.

+1. Parore was probably the best gloveman around world cricket in the late 90s, ditto Smith in the mid-late 80s.

Re: 10 best tests wicket keepers of all time(purely based on keeping and not batting)
To be fair, I think Gillchrist became more than a passable international keeper. He was a good keeper, who took some great catches, but certainly nowhere near a top 10. Don Tallon and Bert Oldfield were undoubtedly better say, as were Bob Taylor and Jack Russell. Prassana is a better keeper than Sangakara but not sure he'd make a top 10. Let me have a go:
Oldfier
Tallon
Healy
Knott
Taylor
Evans
Dujon
Kirmani

Yes, he was a very competent keeper, especially with stumpings. You had to be very smart to keep wickets to the spin quarter, especially to Chandra, who once stated that he did not quite know which type of delivery would come out.

Denis Lindsay?

Lindsay kept wickets at a time SA dominated. However, Waite was a better keeper.

I shall take Leff and Liam's word. My mind has gone completely blank. Wasim Bari and Ian Smith are excellent shouts.
