Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Kick off is imminent. Argentina should win this match quite comfortably, although I think Romania will not make it easy for them, Romania's last 7 RWC tries all came from their forwards, so they will keep it close and hope to dominate with their forwards, Argentina as we all know are renowned for their forwards.
Here we go, Anthems.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
They destroyed the Scottish scrum. Can see Argentina blighted by their lack of kicker, so it could go one of two ways; we see the exciting rugby Argentina can play, but usually only play when the game is lost/fading away. Or it could be a tight, forward orientated affair.
Exciting. First hame for I've seen since USA game, was getting withdrawl symptoms!

Penalty to Argentina, forty metres out, almost straight ahead.

And there's the lack of kicker in evidence. Really rather poor. Should be knocking those over.

Excellent try by Argentina, they played a number of phases going wide from side to side until the flyhalf had an easy run in. Try comacho.

Another forceful run by Argentina, easy try. Was that Ledezma?

Off subject but without Pocock and Ioane how do you think Ireland will go now?

Hi, Taylorman, I think australia should do OK, they will obviously miss Pocock, but the breakdown areas in my opinion has been blown in such a manner that the attacking teams are allowed to belly flop into the rucks, so it has negated the effectiveness of the traditional fetchers on defence.
Ioane is a huge loss for them.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Yeah second try by Ledesma, massive, and probably unecessary, smash on the full back as he went over the line. Got a bit lucky with the final pass, but some of the offloading leading up to it was brilliant.
So glad Argetina are playing like this. I have always had a soft spot for Argetina. Hope they can make the quarters and possibly the semi again, despite losing Hernandez and not having a decent goalkicker, even with Felipe.
For anyone not watching, 14-3 to Argentina, the Pumas playing a great, fast, offloading game, and really most of the game has been played in the Romanian 22. Credit to Romania though, set piece working well and, if Arg keep squandering opportunities, may find a way back into the game.

Third Argentinian try. More like a typical Puma try. Pick a go ball, did seem a little bit like he lost control of the ball as he grounded, but I suppose benefit of the doubt, and Walsh didn't go upstairs.
Romania may be onto a spanking here, despite what I said earlier. Pumas cutting them to bits from their own 22.

Yep, romania is giving away too many penalties, they keep on inviting Argentina into their 22.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Unbelievable scrum from Romania just now. Roncero popped, Argentina being driven backwards, and yet no penalty from Walsh. Unlucky there, and very interesting how easily the Arg scrum can be dominated. Looked more like the scrum that Wales bested at the MS rather than the one that had parity with England last week.

Romania scrum doing well. Argentinos playing them well, playing fast and a little loose knowing the Romania backs are nowhere near their forwards.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Yeah it just shows the difference between Scotland's backs and Argentina's backs, against teams like Romania and Georgia, if your back are a little innovative and use the offload well, you can run teams like this ragged.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Haha yeah. Glad I stayed up for this though, great game so far. No high on intesnity, but some great rugby from the Puma backs.
Apologies about earlier comment, said second try was scored by Ledesma when it was, obviously, Leguizamon, the openside. Would have been impressive for Ledesma, the 38 year old hooker, to have gone from outside the 22 to score, even if he did have a clear shot to the line.

The Argintinian backs are simply to fast, for Romania. they hit the gaps with ease, the romanian fulllback was far to laboured there.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Fourth try scored before the half hour. Shame that the pass to Leguizamon didn't stick, in the end it was poor defending to let Rodriguez in straight through the middle of the pitch. But, deserved; Arg pick the pace up and Romania can't cope with it. Scotland should be worried about this performance, both from the fact they barely threatened the Rmoanian line by not playing quickly enough, and by having to play this Puma side.

Beautifull try by romania, good offloading and drawing the tacklers.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Yeah, credit where credit is due, just can't help feel that might have been as much to do with lazy tackling straight from the kick off as much as the good passing that followed. A bit of a mental switch off from having got the BP. Argentina will be disappointed by that, but hopefully this means they show respect for the full 80, and we see more tries.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Hmmm, did look like a bit of a cheap shot on Ledesma from the Romanian prop, knee went into the ribs, and it's not natural to lead with your knees like that if you're going to the ball. Imagine there will be a citing there, even though there wasn't much force behind it.
Arg picked the pace up again, have a try 8 metres out, bang in front of the posts. Expect a try soon. Good, strong scrum, Fernandes Lobbe peels, finds scrum half, but the move comes to nighting, passed into touch, chance wasted. Still 26-8.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Leguizamon is absolutely on fire. Looks well up for it, seems to be on the shoulder of every break. Might have been the best try of the lot there with the individual brilliance of Amareseno (sp?). Shame the inside ball from Leguizamon didn't go to hand.

He is an incompetent ref, can't really say he's had too much to ref so far though. Both teams letting the rugby do the talking.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Leguizamon doing much in the ruck? Strikes me as a flashy player rather than a grafter (which is fine if the others can do the job without him). A bit like Spies

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
I'd agree with that assessment. Fernandes Lobbe does everything though, and the front row really does its work in the rucks, as do the second rows, so I think he's a luxury they can afford to accomodate.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Both of those scrum penalties were given with the Romanian's retreating to their own try line. Either one could have been a penalty try

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
The match has slowed in the second half, understandably. Poor try to concede from Romania's 22, especially after their defensive work for 3-4 minutes on their own line from the scrums onwards.
One thing that is a bit strange is the total absence of tactical kicking for territory. Both teams are honouring the ball, and trying to work their way unfield by playing through the hands, regardless of where they are on the pitch. Relacements on for both teams now, more of an opporunity to 'show us what you can do' now for Argentina than anything else.
Apparently a spear tackle just now...didn't see anything wrong with it? Good tackle, took the legs, brought back down safely, with the head and back upright, and no driving into the floor. Poor decision from Walsh. Who is eternally grating by referring to everyone as 'mate', in the awkward, David Brent-ish way of trying to pass himself off as one of the lads amongst the rugby boys. Despite the fact most of the Romanians can't speak English.
Oh, shocking try! Nearly a break away for Romania, get to the 22, turn it over, Argentina go back up the other end and score! Unlucky for Romania, not sure they deserved that, suppose handling skills showed in the end...actually, not so sure, complete fluke of a try!

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Good lord this commentator is an eejit. How can it be a spear tackle if the guy's arse/lowerback hits the ground first
Interception by Romania, breakdown the leftwing until Lobbe intercepts it back and they break away to another try.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Was it Walsh or Kaplan that called the dangerous tackle? (I think only the commentator thought it was a spear, probably because he doesn't know what a spear tackle is)

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
Think it was both, Kaplan had a word, clarified. Both at fault there really, though Walsh has seniority (Flip knows why).
That Amarasino at 15 has looked quality for Argentina. Weaves his way on a beautiful line through the opposition team seemlessly. Be difficult to look beyond him for man of the match.

Morning Chaps
Peace to the world, and let the games begin. Been watching this match from the start, and I am worried for our boys........ some free flowing rugby, and the Pumas are unlocking the Romanian defence so much easier than we did.
Romania never give up though

Yeah, respect to Romania, they've looked several steps away from competing today, especially first half, and especially amongst the backs, but in terms of effort and belief, they will not give up. Would be nice to see them get another score here.

Oh, so close! Brilliant effort from Fernandez Lobbe there. Hiya mate, I'd say morning, but technically, it's not morning to me
Would love to see another score. From either side. Can't see it happening...no. All over. 43-8. Good game, thoroughly enjoyable for the neutral.

Re: Argentina vs Romania - Match thread.
flyhalffactory, Argentina are a good side, especially when they have few games/training sessions under their belt. It should be a good game.
I think the England v Argentina game would have been good if it wasn't for all the missed kicks and penalties. I blame the ref for the penalties for not being consistent and not yellow carding enough. England should have been carded earlier (they massively cut down on penalties after) and Argentina should have had at least one for giving away half again as many as England.
miaow, Amorosino did well for Leicester but I think he had a few injuries and never settled (also they had Hamilton, Murphy and Tuilagi). I remember a few of his runs. He had this weird head bob thing as he was running. Seemed to work for him

Never heard of him before now, didn't know he was at Leicester. Just the kind of player I would like to see down at Parc y Scarlets, great attitude to the game, and great with ball in hand. Epitomised everything that was good with the Puma backs today.
