Please read - possible solution to ' off topic ' disagreements
First topic message reminder :
Afternoon, fellas.
A problem which has repeatedly blighted the forum in recent weeks has been the question of how to address ' off topic ' discussions, and if you'll all bear with me for the few minutes it will require to read this I believe I can offer a workable solution.
It has never been my intention, nor that of anybody else, to discourage ' banter.' On the contrary, banter is invaluable in the cultivation of community spirit, and some of the light hearted stuff yielded by Union's ' Prediction league ' threads ( by way of example, ) is a joy to read and can be very, very funny. Nobody would wish to interfere with this. Similarly, originally serious boxing conversations will, sometimes, fly off at a tangent , though it is hoped that the conversations might, eventually, return to the subject which the author intended.
Herein lies the problem.
You would surely agree with me that if a discussion involving a fantasy fight between Aaron Pryor and Julio Cesar Chavez should evolve into a discussion about the desires of one or two to service Megan Fox then certain folks are going to be pretty disgruntled. The old solution, which was to split off the ' off topic ' posts and dump them, arbitrarily, into the ' off topic ' section, would invariably put noses out of joint since the discussions had no exclusive identity, and multiple mergings would produce utter chaos.
By way of solution, I propose the following :
1. We delete, with immediate effect, the ' Non - boxing chat ' sticky.
2. We open a brand new sub section ( just like ' The boxing vault ' ) entitled ' Trash talk.'
3. This ' Trash talk ' subsection will enjoy multiple threads, each of which will retain the title of the parent thread from which it was derived, but will contain the ' off topic ' posts split from said thread, these serving as a starting point for each discussion. By way of example, parent thread ' Pryor v Chavez - who wins ? ' which spawns a conversation about Mexican food, will have all Mexican food comments split off into a thread in the ' Trash talk ' sub section entitled ' Pryor v Chavez - who wins ? '
In this manner, the principle problem inherent in the merging of threads is eradicated.
Obviously, offensive language, etc., will still not be permitted but, other than that, members will be able to chat to their hearts' content about a given sub topic while those who wish to stay ' on topic ' can do so unfettered.
This is a concerted effort to solve a serious problem at the boxing section, and I have already presented the idea to the other members of the admin team, who have given it their blessing.
We propose to set up the sub section later today, but I felt it right and proper to give you all a chance to air your views before we do.
Over to you.

I recently watched a historical drama series with her in. Made it much more worthwhile, although she kept her pokeys under wraps.
Salma Hayek's also another favourite.

Since other threads were merged into it I've felt less inclined to spend literally tens of minutes in MS Paint creating my 'works of art'...
It'll be a Devil of a job, quentin, but, just to remind you all what a nice chap I am, if you all give this idea the green light I will, prior to deleting the ' Non boxing chat ' sticky, split off School Project's art gallery and give it its own thread in the ' Trash talk ' section.

It'd seem the idea is one that is generally acceptable to the majority of posters.
Unless anyone has any immediate gripes that have not been aired yet then I'll go ahead and create this Trash Talk sub-section shortly.

Can you create the 'Atwell's Airbags' section while you're at it.
I am genuinely shocked. Drew Barrymore's p4p#1 ranking is safe but the rest of my top 5 are in serious danger with the emergence of this beauty.

Something important which I forgot to mention.
Being as it will be, a sub section, ' Trash talk ' need not be exclusively reserved for the transfer of off topic comments. New threads can be generated, just as they can be here.
Again, normal House Rules apply, but the point is that nobody is going to jump on someone who wishes to open up a thread about - by way of example - a great joke he has just heard, or a movie he just saw, or anything else.

I like the idea of 'Fritzel's Basement'. It perfectly describes a place where you know there are going to be some naughty things going on, it is out of the public eye and you can reproduce mutliple times without fear of sanction.

You are sadly mistaken Sean.
The house rules still apply and it will be moderated.
The purpose of Trash Talk is not to allow you to swear and post dodgy pictures, but more of a place where you can talk about other things that are not relevant to boxing.
Re: Please read - possible solution to ' off topic ' disagreements
Why not start another sub-forum for general chat. A general chat room is used on most sports sites and definitely on the big boxing sites.
A general chat forum where people can create their own thread topics allows them to talk about whatever they want. within the rules, and gives them somewhere that is not the boxing board to chat about non-sports stuff. The Pub Thread already in place does not work because people cannot create their own threads and topics within it.
The typical general/lounge chat rooms that exist on other sports sites often have as big a post count as the specific sports boards within the forum. This indicates to me that people will go to a general chat area if they want a waffle and will go to the boxing board if they want to talk boxing.
General chat rooms are tried and tested on sports boards and they draws a lot of casual fans to a site who don't want to talk about sport exclusively.
It is clear to me that there are quite a few people who post on 606V2 for a mix of reasons. It is hard to talk boxing all the time for most people and this is compounded when there are no big fights happening and it can get a little boring.
My feeling is if you want the boxing board to be exclusively about boxing then another outlet for general waffle needs to be created. 606V2 isn't the first site to have this issue.

That is what the section is for - to split off topic posts into and to start off topic conversations.
There are already off topic sections at the bottom of the home page where you can talk about anything, but many members only like to stick to their own sections.

The impression I got from reading the original post was that the threads in the new Trash Talk area would be originated in the boxing section and would then be moved over to the Trash section if they went off-topic.
Are you saying people can also starts new threads from scratch on any topic, within the rules, in the Trash talk section?

Yep - Windy confirmed earlier that anything goes in there within site rules.
So still no swearing, posting of dodgy pics etc.
But if you wanted to start a thread about the new Jedward album, you could. Although it would be a shame to deny the music section of the main forum of that thread.....
Re: Please read - possible solution to ' off topic ' disagreements
Seems like a good move guys. You would think there will be an increase in traffic. If a few people start using it I would see it taking off in a big way. Needs to be a little less strict than the sports sections I reckon. Obviously the language will be kept clean which is one of the unique and best aspects of this site imo.

Have to agree there, the lack of bad language and childish abbreviations such as 'lol' and 'imo' is most refreshing and makes the site a joy to frequent.

Considering I will be doing a fair bit of the moderating in that section, along with this one, I might as well tell you here what won't be allowed, just for clarity!
Graphic/libellous photos - Photos in general are allowed (under the proper spoiler tag), but as with the main boxing board, any that are unacceptable in terms of either their graphic content or libellous nature (e.g. Pacquaio injecting himself or something equally ridiculous) will have to be removed.
Swearing - obviously not acceptable, as with all of the other sections on this site.
Personal insults - still not allowed, regardless of the topic.
However, feel free to post about anything you like that doesn't breach any of the above guidelines. I'm sure some of you crafty lot will find numerous loopholes in what I have just said, but the idea of the section is to have fun and be as ridiculous as we like, but keeping it clean at the same time.

Personal insults were the cornerstone of the old board. If you let people slag off Truss you would triple the post count immediately.
Letting people jibe each other was always a fun part of the board.

Re: Please read - possible solution to ' off topic ' disagreements
Just to amplify Fists' point, fellas.
I put a great deal of thought into all this and I realised that some of you - quite rightly - felt a bit restricted that banter could sometimes be dumped into ' Non boxing chat ' without any provision for you to be able to locate and continue the chat.
On the other hand, we were shipping a few complaints from some who felt that the light hearted stuff was becoming a bit invasive and was beginning to infiltrate serious boxing discussion.
My idea was to find a solution by which the needs of every single member would be met, and that each and every one of you could fully enjoy being here.
House Rules must be adhered to, but there is nothing new in that. They are, however, now the only restrictive factor here at the boxing section. Banter and humour have been liberated.

Personal insults - still not allowed, regardless of the topic.
Personal insults were the cornerstone of the old board. If you let people slag off Truss you would triple the post count immediately.
Letting people jibe each other was always a fun part of the board.
To be honest, Strongy, witty slights at people etc are more than ok, by personal insults I mean the really strong stuff.
