Glaws v Bath
The teams are up for tomorrow’s derby clash.
Glaws are riddled with injuries at the moment and the loss of Simpson-Daniel, Brown and Hazell is huge. It is likely to rain tomorrow and Glaws have chosen a bulky pack which should get the upperhand in the scrum and maul. The contest between the youngsters Cox and Mercer is going to be a very interesting one.
It is good to welcome Cortese to Kingsholm and hopefully he will be the long term replacement for Azam. I’m sure we shall also give Attwood a warm welcome home!
Despite Glaws' absentees I can see the Cherry and Whites making it 7 wins out of 8 against our neighbours, but it will be close.
GLAWS
Olly Morgan; Charlie Sharples, Jonny May, Lesley Vainikolo, Tom Voyce; Tim Taylor, Nick Runciman; Nick Wood, Darren Dawidiuk, Rupert Harden; Will James, Tom Savage; Peter Buxton (c), Matt Cox, Brett Deacon
Replacements:
Matias Cortese, Dan Murphy, Dario Chistolini, David Lyons, Gareth Evans, Dan Robson, Freddie Burns, Henry Trinder
BATH
Nick Abendanon; Jack Cuthbert, Matt Carraro, Dan Hipkiss, Tom Biggs; Sam Vesty, Michael Claassens (c); Nathan Catt, Ross Batty, Duncan Bell; Dave Attwood, Ryan Caldwell; Carl Fearns, Guy Mercer, Ben Skirving
Replacements:
Mark Lilley, Charlie Beech, Kane Palma-Newport, Will Spencer, Andy Beattie, Mark McMillan, Tom Heathcote, Nick Scott

Re: Glaws v Bath
A lot of pace and flair in the Gloucester team they will want to be moving it fast and keeping the tempo up. Bath on the other hand have got a very physical team on the park and look like they'll be trying bully boy tactics. The Gloucester youngsters are going to have to be spot in defence as Carraro and Hipkiss are big ball carriers and will hold up the ball for the likes of Fearns, Attwood and Caldwell to drive them on.
Big game for Mercer he needs to be getting to the breakdown fast and playing a disruptive role, as otherwise quick ball and fast options out wide will cause Bath problems.

The intensity of the derby games are a joy to watch and the atmosphere is always buzzing, which is why these games are the best in our respective calenders. It'll be a hell of a game

Great game to watch, there was a couple of Bath fans stood near by, were great sports especially when Charlie Embarased their fullback, he was at least 10 yards behind when h started!!!!!
I thought Mat Cox was brilliant, definately won the battle of the 7's, he tackled like his life depended on it!
Bit ofa hangoer today but well worth it!

Tell me about it!
What was brilliant about yesterday was that so many of the youngsters stood up to the plate. Dawidiuk, Harden, Savage and Cox were all excellent.
The only downside of the whole day is that I had Glaws to win by 10 on SportsGuru and Charlie's try ended my bonus point! But as it was against Bath I don't care!

HERSH I won't accuse you of backing out of a deal, as I found out yesterday you can't change names. I would say add a signature, but I'm happy with the all important bragging rights!!
Tough game though and you were all over us for the first 30, but then the pack took control

Shambles. What were Bath doing trying to wheel the scrum in the first half, when we could have just driven Glaws' inferior pack off the ball?!?!?!?!
Fair play Glaws. A proper drubbing handed out. Especially enjoyed big Les' sideshow boxing lesson.

Where is Donald?
We should have signed Charlie Hodgeson at least he would have been around, plus his a good club player.
What is going on at the top of the club we seem to have loads of money or so we're told but yet we're stuck with the same old players who failed last year and the year before that, I'm fed up with losing to Glaws.
this summer we need to re build the club and get some quality winners in, not old has beens.

I thought Les was a it hard one by, getting a yellow for the high tackle, definate pen but the Bath player was on his way down. The refferee did not mention the after tackle handbags so I assume he wsjust carded for the tackle?
Would like to see a Glaws bonus point Saturday against Irish, if we can get that then compared t some the world cup won't have been to hard on us as unless a miracle happens at the wekend we should have 6 of our 7 home.
HCK, totally agree, our young players were a class above Saturday poor old Scott Lawson has some work o do to get his shirt back!

Bath_BTGOG you were always going to find it hard getting Charlie Hodgson with Saracens as a rival bidder.
You seem to underestimate how hard Gloucester are at home.
Kingsholm is by far the toughest ground in the AP to win at.

Why?
Bath have more history than Sarries, sadly it only looks like being history unless someone pulls there finger out, the sooner we sort the ground out the better, it is holding us back big time.
I've never been a fan of moving away from the Rec but with each passing season it looks like we have no choice.
Bath fans deserve better, and yes I know Glaws is a hard place to win with all the help the Ref gets from the home fans but Glaws were there for the taking this time.
Rant over.

I think the problem is the local council are not keen to have a big rugby stadium in the centre of Bath as they don't feel it will be in keeping with the town. Seems a load of rubbish to me as surely the rugby fans are a source of revenue to the town and are known for being well behaved.

Re: Glaws v Bath
Big deal Bath has been around 11 years longer than Saracens. Bath are a proud and good side but you haven't won major silverware for a long time.
Also you should look at the recent and historical head to head of Saracens vs Bath to get the whole picture.
Why? Because Saracens have wealthier backers, are close to London, treat their players very well, will probably pay Charlie a fat salary, have a good chance of winning silverware, have good team values, his mate Wigglesworth is at Sarries, our club is still over 100 years old etc.

I can understand that as it being a "historical picturesque" town. However upgrading the rec and expanding it would hardly make it an eyesore. Its not like it would be a massive expansion.
They could style it like the coliseum so it would fit in with Baths history

True, let's face it the REC is currently living up to it's name it is a wreck. They really do need to upgrade as the fans deserve better. I do think it would be really cool if they put huge stone pillars around the outside and made it look like a gladitorial arena, the colluseum of the West Country.

I don't know why Bath don't just do what Tescos or any other super market does when it puts in a planning application, its not like we haven't got any money to buy votes.
I like the idea of a roman style stadium, would look good, and it couldn't be any worse than the ugly sports centre next door to the rec, but its not going to happen as an old dear doesn't want her view spoilt.

Bath Btgog if you throw enough money at the project you'll be fine. I know how you feel as my club are further down the road with our own stadium plans.
Saracens should hopefully conclude the acquisition of Copthall stadium and the process hasn't been too bad. Barnet Council are on board. Everything should be concluded within two months.
Win the hearts and minds of the councillors and you'll be just fine.

"Donations" to the council often help with this.
Seriously though, go for the Roman Gladiator look! There's a stadium that the old Churchill cup games used to be played in that had the pillars and tiles look going on and it was pretty cool. Didn't have seats either just long sandstoe benches.

Re: Glaws v Bath
nww - Les was carded as it was the 2nd high tackle by Glaws of the game (Woody did the earlier one). I still think it was harsh as he's twice the height of McMillan and he was falling to the ground when he hit him. Fortunately it made no difference to the outcome.
To all the Bath supporters, I'd forget about some pseudo-gladiatorial colliseum, it's Swindon's County Ground for you
On a serious note, every armchair pundit knows that bath's front 5 is too underpowered, yet the management chose to ignore that in the recruitment. Bar one break, Attwood was anonymous and a shadow of the player 2 years ago when he joined us from Bris. He suffered 2nd season syndrome with us and so far I've seen nothing to suggest he's going to turn this round. I sincerely hope he does (even if he is a B*** player now!) as he has the potential to be excellent. But on Saturday he was outplayed by a player who was playing for Hartpury 3rd XV 2 years ago! Caldwell didn't cause anywhere near enough trouble in the lineout, which was poor when you consider there wasn't any lineout specialist in the Glaws pack. Catt and Bell were also comprehensively outplayed.
The one shining light was Fearns who hit the rucks like a steam train.
I can see it will be another Glaws double this year

It's surely time for Bath to acknowledge that Catt's scrummaging isn't up to it and give Beech the start instead?

Beech made a clear impact when he came on and was against arguably a stronger scrummager in Chistolini than when Catt faced Harden.
bathmad, this is not a deliberate attempt to just wind you up, but I have to admit that Flatman, Wilson and Perenise hardly strike the fear of God into me. Flatman and Wilson have been part of the front row that has resulted in the many critics commenting on the lack of strength in your front 5. Their return will not make much difference.

Flatman looked more than a little ropey at the scrum last year, I think it was something to do with his shoulder injury, has that improved?
If you think you have prop problems you are welcoming Tigers to the REC minus Ayerza, Castro, Cole, Brookes, White, Bower and Campo plus a late fitness test on Stankovitch.

True, it is about time Bath got some revenge, after the embarrassment of being spanked 30 odd points to 6 at the REC last season. You won't get another chance for many years to see Bath beat Tigers in the scrum.
