UFC on Versus 6
Hi All,
This weekend see's Dominick Cruz defend his Bantamweight title against Demetrious Johnson. 5"8 Cruz has to be the favourite against 5"3 Johnson and I see this as a decision victory for Cruz. Height difference seems to be the theme of this card as we have also got in the co-main event 5"11 Heavyweight Pat Berry vs. 6"11 Stefan Struve. This one is hard to call but I am going for a win for Pat Berry here mainly because his record in the UFC is WLWLWL so he must be up for a W now.
Anthony Johnson vs. Charlie Brenneman are a couple of big names for this cards as well, but both being wrestlers this could prove to be a bit of a boring match. I have to go for Anthony Johnson getting the W here just for his massive size advantage, I think he is going to be too big and strong for Brenneman.
Matt Wiman vs. Mac Danzig in a lightweight bout completes the main card. On the undercard there is an exciting lightweight match between TUF runner up Michael Johnson vs. undefeated Brit Paul Sass who is 11-0 with 10 of them wins coming via submission.
Yves Edwards vs. Rafaello Oliveira also on the undercard could prove to be a good match up also.
Anyone planning on watching it? I’ll be posting my comments come Sunday no doubt.

Will defo be watching
Cruz vs Johnson - same as you can only see a Cruz UD win
Barry vs Struve - i expect this to be ended by Pat Barry's leg kicks which are the best in the HW division - 2nd round TKO
Wiman vs Danzig - hard one to call here - Danzig looked very impressive against Joe Stevenson - i'll go with Danzig by submission (is this a rematch of the fight where the Ref called off the fight thinking Danzig had passed out to a guillotine choke?)

That’s exactly correct mate, if memory serves me correctly that was at UFC 115 Franklin vs. Liddell. Will be interesting to see how this fight plays out and whether or not Yves Lavigne (the referee last time) will be reffing this fight

Re: UFC on Versus 6
Was thinking that - it seems they have taken long enough in organising the rematch given the controversy surrounding the last fight unless either of them have been injured - looking forward to this fight now

Not sure how much of an advantage it is being that tall! (Struve) Usually the taller fighter has an advantage but I've seen Struve crumble before and if Barry can chop him down then i don't think Struve has the skills to beat him.

spoilers...........................................................................................................
I've only been able to watch a few of the fights but there was some excellent BJJ on display - Struve's submission of Barry has to get submission of the night! It was amazing how he went from the triangle choke into the arm bar from Barry's slam. Incredible. Barry attempts to get out of the triangle choke by slamming Struve, but Struve braced his fall with his forearm and then transitioned into the arm bar seemlessly.
Sass' submission of Johnson was also amazing - Johnson dominated the stand up connecting with some good shots until Sass took the fight to the ground and tenaciously went for the leg lock and got the heel lock forcing Johnson to tap. It reminded me a lot of the original Lesnar/Mir fight and was very impressive.
Cruz won by UD over Mighty Mouse Johnson - the work rate of both was phenomenal but Johnson's take down defence was poor and Cruz dominated on the ground. Cruz nearly got a rear naked choke but Johnson managed to escape. Cruz displayed some good wrestling - suplexing Johnson several times (that looked incredibly painful) as well as Judo throwing him several times too. It was a really refreshing grappling display that combined techniques from multiple grappling disciplines. Would have liked Cruz to get the submission as a reward for his excellent grappling but credit to Johnson for being game.
These fights just reaffirmed my passion for the grappling arts.

Am glad Paul Sass got his second victory. He looks to be quite the submission specialist but I do hope he wll now work on his stand up to make himself a more rounded fighter.
