Manager – Dammit Chris
16. Mikey Haywood 17. Mako Vunipola 18. Juan Pablo Orlandi 19. Joe Launcberry 20. Jake Abbott 21. Ben Nutley 22. Charlie Davies 23. Jack Wallace
Tactics Overview:
Saints will play at a high tempo with Simpson and Cipriani dictating play, looking to run the ball and play attacking rugby with ball in hand. Saints will look to encourage an open game, with lots of offloading to take advantage of both teams not having as much game experience together.
We have picked a number of combos that have played together previously to ensure a good set piece and fluid backs moves (Webber, Attwood, Clark for lineout, Simpson and Cipriani).
We will use all of our substitutes in the second half to continue to give youth a chance to develop in the first team.
Forwards – Set Piece & Breakdown
Strong setpiece ensured by picking a core of players with experience and who have played together and anchored by Sergio Parisse for his leadership and will inspire the young players around him.
Parisse will look to do a lot of carries from the base of the scrum to get over the gainline and set up new points of attack for our halfbacks to exploit. Simpson will also look to pick up and go when opportunities arise.
Lineout we will look for quick ball when possible with Attwood, Clark and Parisse alternating as jumpers.
We will be looking to target the breakdown in numbers, with Liam Gill particularly effective in this area. We will use Attwood and Clark to counterruck when possible because obtaining turnover ball and letting Simpson and Cipriani attacking at pace. Saints will put numbers in the breakdown when we feel turnovers are on.
Backs
Saints will play a high tempo game, led by Simpson and Cipriani who will look to attack at speed and with width – trying to stretch the Saracens defence and create gaps. This is particularly important due to the blitz defence Sarries play and Simpson will be on the look out for breaks whenever they are on.
Mason and Lamont will be used to straighten the line and for dummy runs, whilst Evans, Wade and Benvenutti will be used to finish moves and exploit the space. Mason’s offloading ability will be key to beating the Sarries blitz defence system and Cipriani’s passing ability will be able to put people into space.
Defence
Defensively we will look to play an aggressive game in the forwards and marshal the breakdown/ruck area in numbers and guard the fringes to stop Hodgson sniping.
We will try and push Saracens into a kicking game by using our backrow to pressurise and rush Farrell. And will look to try and hold the Sarries midfield up in the tackle area and wait for support from the pack. By stopping them going to ground we will get the scrum put in and the turnover.

Setpiece
At scrum time we will look to play it quick getting the ball in and out fast. We will look to Horstmann to break from the back and provide us some go forward. At the lineout, we will look to Day to be our talisman. He will call the line and will have Jones, at the front, and our entire back row to support him as jumpers to mix things up. Our jumpers will look to either play the ball of the top quickly and look to our backline to move it or bring it down into a maul and make the hard yards through the pack, sucking in the Gloucester forwards to leave space out wide for our backs. On opposition ball we will look for Jones to get up in the air at the front of the line and Day to follow Robson in the line and disrupt the Gloucester lineout. If we really start to get on top of the lineout we will look to Goode to kick for the corners a few times and really put the pressure on.
Breakdown
We have a very mobile and quick pack to really target the breakdown. On our own ball we will look to our forwards to get numbers to the breakdown quickly rucking past the ball and clearing out the Gloucester boys looking to recycle clean fast ball. On defence, if we are first to the breakdown or the ball carrier is isolated we will look to seriously commit numbers and will look to Lipman to secure us turnover ball. At all other times we will commit lighter numbers to the breakdown but look to counter ruck slowing down Glaws ball allowing our defensive line more time to set.
General Attacking Play
We will look to play a strong carrying game using our big carriers to hit the gain line offloading in or just before the tackle (when it's on) to support runners breaking the defensive line and keeping our forward momentum going. Smith will look to come in field at different times running lines of our midfield looking for the ball on the offload. If running the ball is not on we will look to Bezy, Goode or Barkley to kick in behind the Glaws back 3.
Bezy will look to play around the fringes of the breakdown and make his usual snipping runs when it’s on, tying the Glaws back row to the breakdown. Goode and Barkley have been instructed to play it clever and if overlaps or gaps appear they will look to get the ball moving and take advantage. They will look to rotate at first receiver and provide a different threat to the opposition defence. Abendanoon will look to come up from fullback from time to time and offer an extra ball carrying threat while looking to create these overlaps out wide.
Goode will look to kick for goal when in opposition territory and take the drop goal option when it’s available to keep the score board moving.
General Defensive Play
In defence we will be using a blitz defence and will look to get up at pace looking to isolate the ball carrier before he gets to the gain line stopping any opposition momentum and allowing us to hit the breakdown hard. We will look to keep opposition on the back foot forcing the kick. Bezy will act as a sweeper and look to cover any chips in behind the line. Our wingers will look to sit deeper on defence then the rest of the line ready for any kicks. Our back three have been instructed to play to their strengths and look for the counter attack, running the ball back with serious pace.

Tactics
Tactics vs. Northampton Saints
- Running the ball.
In great conditions we will look to run the ball at every opportunity. If isolated we will play the percentages and kick for territory, but so long as the player in possession of the ball has support, we will look to hit gaps in the defensive line and offload to support runners, and keep the ball alive as much as possible. Our mobile back row will look to really support the ball carrier and take offloads and drive forward staying on their feet allowing further support runners to get close to be offloaded to again. - Control possession.
This links in with the running rugby. We will happily go through the phases and keep the ball. If we have it, Saints can't score tries against us, and we are working on the theory of attack being the best form of defence. We will not kick to their back three. If we need to kick, we will kick for touch and get up quickly to stop the quick lineout. - Blitz defence as a unit.
We will look to get up to the gainline quickly as a unit and stop their ball carriers behind it, denying them any forward momentum and forcing them to kick.

Re: Anglo Welsh Cup Round 1
Worcester 15-15 Wasps
Think Wasps have the power in the pack, but I am really not seeing where their backline will score tries from - I really don't see them opening up defences and getting close to scoring 4 tries in a game - again wet and windy conditions and you dont want to play them for all the money in the world - but outwide you just need to make your tackles and cut them off in the centres and you are going to be fine.
I think Worcester have more of a threat outwide, but question whether they will get through the Wasps defence and backrow - I dont see any tries in this game and will be decided on penalties and kicking game. Worcester home advantage gets them a draw.
Wasps need some creativity in their backline asap.
Dragons 9 - 41 Bath
Bath will smash them off the park.
Exeter 33–24 Ospreys
Bonus point win for Exeter, front row changes could be the thing that really sways it at the end in final 20mins.
Newcastle 25 - 20 Cardiff
Think this will be a lot closer than it could have been if Newcastle selected a stronger team, much prefer Cardiff's backrow, which could cause some trouble for Newcastle, but too much class and power for Newcastle out wide.
Harlequins 19 - 25 London Irish
Nick's got some big guns out in his backline and that's the difference for me - both packs are pretty similar and can seeing it being a good contest, perhaps a bit more form to Quins, but Irish are going to get a good amount of ball.
Can see the Irish centres punching holes in Quins all afternoon, and controlled by JMH who to me is much better than Steenson, who is now 2nd choice with Exeter in real life. I like the bench options - seems as though Nick is taking the Anglo Welsh Cup seriously!
Gloucester 18–16 Sale
Really tight game this one, think Gloucester edge the pack and with Fasivalu Gloucester have the star on the pitch, think he can cause a lot of damage with his tackling and running. Kvesvic's a very promising player, but think Fasivalu was the best player in the AP from January onwards last year and continued that form into the WC.
I always have a problem with Goode at 10 for any team, he kicks and that is that - in the wet, windy conditions he's an asset, but otherwise I think he can be a liability for a team. Would probably have started Barkley myself.
Ryan Lamb also is in a bit of form and can see him orchestrating more of attacking game for Glaws who have.

Bit more stardust in Saints - Future is bright for both teams
Worcester 21 Wasps 19
home advantage swings it here.
Dragons 6-40 Bath

Quins 22 Irish 28
Really youthfull and exciting team Steve but Irish are proven throughout. Not sure about JJ as skipper

Pooly would run away with this But Ceri Sweeney is on fire in the real world at the moment.
Gloucester 25 Sale 23
Home advantade gives matt a 2 point win
Scarlets 15 Leicester 40

Sorry Luke totally missed your game!
Scarlets 9-36 Leicester
Not the easiest place to travel but Tigers ooze class, imagine Cusiter & James will tear them to shreds.

Re: Anglo Welsh Cup Round 1
Something I found out this week fellas. You get more money for winning the LV than you do the Heiniken Cup. I can't believe this but its apparently true.
Saints 23 - 19 Saracens
Saints are very strong here and should get the win. Some very talented youngsters on both sides. Some of the brightest talents in English and World rugby on show here.
Worcester 23 - 29 Wasps
Wasps are very strong here and get a convincing win. A bit more experimental for Prop but two very strong backlines which should give an exciting game. Mac v Robinson at 10 should be a great battle.
Dragons 15 - 32 Bath
Bath very strong here. Will have far to much for The Dragons although Chavanga gets a hattrick (He will be electric in ML when its dry)
Exeter 25 - 25 Ospreys
Young half backs don't help Exeter here. I'd need to see a experienced man to go with either Ford or Pilgrim who are very talented. Ospreys are no mugs with a decent side out.
Newcastle 21 - 15 Cardiff
Falcons strong here. Not convinced with the falcons TH when I've seen him but won't be hugely troubled here. Plenty of Sam Hobbs in the Cardiff team.
Gloucester 31 - 31 Sale
Two strong sides. Goode 'played like Cooper' is how Greenwood described Goode v Irish. Will be a good battle at the scrum and the forwards in general. Would usually quiver at the sight of Goode and Noon in the same backline but like the Sale back 3.
Scarlets 13 - 39 Leicester
Tigers far to strong here in all department. Morgan's power might cause there defence a few scares but nothing to worrying. Routine win.

Re: Anglo Welsh Cup Round 1
Northampton Saints 27-22 Saracens
Just a bit more on show from Saints. Parisse will direct things well and with the halfbacks on show a few tries will be scored.
Worcester Warriors 19-23 London Wasps
Wasps with an edge in the pack battle and McAllister in cracking form will see them pick up the away win.
Dragons 15-32 Bath Rugby
Bath just a class above in all areas!
Exeter Chiefs 23-13 Ospreys
Exeter with more quality about them but its a decent Ospreys side and they will defend well.
Newcastle Falcons 26-9 Cardiff Blues
Too much quality on show from Falcons. The AP squads in game just have to much for the Welsh to really compete here.
Harlequins 16-22 London Irish
Exciting team from Quins but the extra experience for Irish is telling
Scarlets 11-30 Leicester Tigers
Just to much class on show for Tigers and they should run up a decent score here

Saints 23-16 Sarries
Just think Saints have more all over the pitch
Warriors 20-24 Wasps
Star quality comes from Wasps
Exeter 28-19 Ospreys
FOrwards win it for Exeter
Newcastle 34-26 Blues
Too classy
Quins 17-19 Irish
Irish just get over the line.
Glaws 21-20 Sale
Stronger bench wins it
Scarlets 9-25 Tigers
Once again too much quality
