Welsh Rugby Union Limited has announced a pre-tax profit of £26.2million.
Not only are the boys in NZ doing a superb job but the guys in the WRU are doing miracles too by the looks of it...!
"As a result, the organisation has managed to reduce its debt to banks to £26.2million, while allocating £19.3million into the elite and community game across Wales."

Can they reduce ticket prices as well then, £56 for a ticket two weeks before Xmas.
Though MAY be a steal if we are welcoming back the World Champions

How about donating some of it to the all blacks benevolent fund to help pay their air fares in 2015?

I think they'll need to hang on to it too.
This year there will be no Walesv England football, No Heineken Cup and no Autumn Internationals.
What the will have is the cost of sending the squad to NZ for 2 months.
Expect a much more moderate profit or maybe loss this year.

It's a big turnaround from 10 years ago when we were in something like £30 million debt...(I have just picked that figure out of the air, I have no idea how much the debt actually was)

They’re currently basking in the sun, on and off the pitch. Well done to the WRFU board and players representing them. They’re being led very astutely.

It was more like 70 mill after building the millenium stadium.

NZ need to look at this- not every nation can have leagues on the scale of england and france, yet still do very well.

Right so although they made a profit this year they are probably still in debt?

Remember what this on the back. Friday 6 nations games, extra fixtures causing friction with the regions, high ticket prices. This is why the WRU do this.

debt and profit are two very different things.(debt is part of capital and is long term liabilities on the other side of the accounts)
a simple way of explaining it.
you take a loan of 1000 to start a business(you pay that back 100 per month for a year(20% interset)- IN month 1,you purchase stock to the value of 1000, you sell that for 2000, you operating profit is 1000, your cash balance is 2000, but you still have a debt of 1100.

But what the NZRFU do is spread it's fixtures around the nation so everyone has a chance to see NZ play. Remember we're talking an area bigger than Great Britain here. As a result we play games in small cities (or large towns) whereas Wales pretty much play all their games in Cardiff. It's not far from anywhere (if you consider 4 hrs far then try driving 10 hrs from Wellington to Auckland or Brisbane to Sydney - that's real distance!), London, Bristol, Birmingham etc so they should be able to sell out 70,000 everytime they play - the population is there within the UK.
If NZ had have built the proposed Waterfront Stadium in Auckland then they'd have to base the AB's games there from then on. But it's a national team at the end of the day

Re: Welsh Rugby Union Limited has announced a pre-tax profit of £26.2million.
The WRU basically bit the bullet ten years ago and culled proffessional rugby in Wales. They decided that a country of Waels' size could only afford 4 pro outfits so we got the regions and a semi pro league underneath that.
It was not popular it challenged the vested interest of old established clubs and saw the valleys completly ignored but it was the only sensible financial thing to do as clubs were going bankrupt, the WRU was going bankrupt.
painful as it was cutting our coat to suit our cloth has led to increeased proffessionalism in our game.

Tycroes - read an article about a week ago reagrding your club (assume it is anyway) and that they're been fleeced of £5000 for some festival they have every year in an attempt to bring Alexandra Burke to the feistival. Looks liek the bloke who made the promise to bring her ran off with the cash.
In any case, if it is your club then best of luck, hope you fellas get the bugger. £5000 is a lot of money to a grass roots club.

Yeah that was us, its been a big blow espescially in our centenary year but were winning matches and the community has rallied round. Cant see us getting the cash back so we will just have to try and absorb it.

Didn't they estimate 2021 the year where the debt will be wiped out??
I guess the WRU will be filthy rich once they are back in the black, still a long way to go though but nice to hear!!

Re: Welsh Rugby Union Limited has announced a pre-tax profit of £26.2million.
Fantastic news!
£6 Million debt is a lot of money but it's a lot less than the £100+ million they had only 10 years ago, we are clearly moving in the correct direction.
Hopefully they wont allocate any more money to the region now though the last thing we need is them having extra money to bring in a load of foreign players. The regions being forced to produce their own young players is a blessing for Wales in the longer term.

£26.2m!????
Lewis & Pickering will have spent it on fairydust & magic beans by Xmas.
Hopefully now we're playing some decent rugby we'll get some quality management before we start sliding back down the rankings again.

There is a HC? - There is also an AI against Aus. They also had 3 Summer games in the Millenium to make up any lose.
I expect the Aus game could well sell out, we also have 3 home 6Ns games (compared to 2 this year)

The WRU are doing something right, as a Blues fan its nice to see that someone in Wales is rolling in cash .

The WRU have stated there is money for a 5th region in north Wales, if £26m is run over, then maybe they could spare a few bob to put a semi pro team there!

Maybe they can start paying the PRL for use of their players then.
