The Oasis Appreciation Thread
I know they aren't everybody's cup of tea but they are my personal favourite band. We all know that Liam is a bit of a douchbag but Noel is arguably the best singer/songwriter of his generation. Personally my favourite album is Be Here Now, I love that album. A proper drugged up rock fest. I know its not their best but its my favourite.
The best single is Whatever and I find Wonderwall grossly overrated.
What's everyone's opinions of them? Favourite album? Single? Have you ever seen them live, if so what did you think?
Cheers for reading

I love Oasis! Sadly they seem to get a fair bit of stick on here.
Favourite song - Live Forever
Album - Can't decide between Definitely Maybe and What's The Story. Both are amazing.

A lot of people give them stick, some I feel is a bit unjustified. Maybe they were a bit too arrogant. They have done so many top tunes.

Absolutely love Oasis, my favourite song changes weekly, it’s usually between Slide Away, Sad Song and Talk Tonight.
The best Single is wonderwall, but that’s only because the b-sides were Swap Song, Round our Way and Masterplan. That’s an epic lineup of b-sides!

Love Sad Song and Slide Away. I wish they had done a 2nd B-Sides Album. They could of have 3 or 4 quality b-sides albums.

Re: The Oasis Appreciation Thread
It's fashionable to knock them but I have always rated them as perhaps my favourite band.
What's the Story Morning Glory is my favourite album of all time, let alone Oasis. I then find it harder to split them, but I'm not a big fan of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, although even that has some excellent songs on it.
Cast No Shadow, Don't Look Back in Anger, Stand By Me, Slide Away, The Hindu Times, Underneath the Sky...I could be here all morning listing the songs I love.

Although never one of my favorite bands, there is no denying that Definatly Maybe and Whats the story are fantastic albums.
Songs i like by them include Shes Electric, Live Forever, Little by little, Don't look back in Anger, Champagne Supernova. My favorite is Wonderwall though.

My favourite album is Definitely Maybe easily but my favourite song comes from the Be Here Now album and is I hope, I think, I know. They have done so many amazing songs and albums though.

I've never been a huge fan of theirs, but like others, I do have some fave songs of theirs that I like:
Round Our Way
Champagne Supernova
Cast No Shadow
Half The World Away
Morning Glory
I'm Outta Time
I've never listened to any of their albums entirely so I don't have a favourite album.

My favourite band, absolutely superb. Been to see them 3 or 4 times, and that is what you call a gig, they get the place buzzing.
Favourite songs? Where do I start? Many of those that have been mentioned already are amongst my favourites, though I'd add Supersonic, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Rockin' Chair too.

Re: The Oasis Appreciation Thread
Another who was never a huge fan but liked certain tracks. Saw them live at Old Trafford Cricket ground in 2002 (had to look the date up, can't believe it was 9 years ago). Not bad although 1. there were technical problems 2. I had been to watch the Leeds Man U game that had kicked off at 12pm and so was pretty tanked up by the time they came on. Richard Ashcroft supported them and I can remember them playing a cover of My Generation but not much else. It wasn't great weather or a great venue for a concert to be honest.

The B-side to Go Let It Out, Let's All Make Believe. What. A. Tune. That should of been a single on its own.
What single had Gettin' Older as a b-side?? Great song

Cracking song.
Little by little is another good 'un.
Most of the songs i prefer are sung by Noel, always prefered his voice. Even his versions of Liam songs are better, i.e. Slide Away acoustic.

Re: The Oasis Appreciation Thread
For me I thought What's The Story was over-rated.
Favourite Oasis Track - Rock And Roll Star
Favourite Oasis Album - Heathen Chemistry
I think the fact Liam Gallagher started to write songs on that album I think made it much 'authentic' I find that Definetly Maybe and WTSMG was more 'Noel' the songwriter.

Did anyone see Noel on Jonathon Ross the other week, by the way?
A cracking interview.

Nah, I was meant to watch it and missed it. His new album is meant to be good.
To be honest I've always preferred the songs Noel sang.

His album is very good, Soldier.
It's similar in a lot of ways to his songs on the Oasis albums, but that's no bad thing, and there are a couple of crackers on there too.

Think I will have to be getting that.
Am glad he has gone solo rather start a new band as it would just be compared to Oasis.

Couldn't agree more. Its very overrated!
The Noel interview with Jonathan Ross was excellent, really really good. Did anyone hear him on Chris Evans breakfast show a few weeks back? I think I could listen to him all day.

I thought Noel on Jo Whiley on Sky Arts was good. Liked the format of the show. That was a great insight to where he was with Oasis as to where he is now.

I loved Oasis. Listening to DM in 1994 blew me away after the dross of the previous year. I even had a huge poster of Liam snarling into the mic in my first flat Kind of grew out of them as I got older but still have every album, which gets the occassional listen too in the car..
Fave songs;
Columbia

Rocking chair
Aquiesce

Re: The Oasis Appreciation Thread
judging by my name you'd get i was in to them.
many people over look them because of the football fans which became attached to them, but on their day they were the best band in the world. dont need to say much more.

Put Kasabian into the era when Oasis were big, and Kasabian would completely wipe the floor with the Gallaghers. Awful band with quite possibly the worst lead singer (if you can call him that) in the world.

Not really, no. Oasis have 10/15 songs better than anything Kasabian has done.

hope thats a joke. ive seen kasabian many times live and loved it.
however, they arent in the same league as their idols.
without oasis there would be no kasabian.
worst lead singer? tom is a shocking singer. but great front man. for a few years liam had the best rock n roll voice in the world.

Liam is neither a good singer or a front man. Absolute div. The band were and always will be terrible. They churned out the same rubbish for far too long, it all sounded the exact same. Even now, when Noel's latest band comes on the radio you know it is a song he has written before he has even begun to sing. Seriously the most overrated band in the UK.

Re: The Oasis Appreciation Thread
For me, Oasis have always been a band of what could have been. Their first three albums were good in my opinion, but they needed to grow and develop out of that "Beatles cover-band" image that they had. Sadly though they just didn't reach their potential, though maybe Noel can do something better now with his solo career.
I will say for definite though Liam was a terrible front man and singer, Noel is a better singer.
