Maven Appreciation Thread
Maven, remember him?
The guy that won the first ever series of WWE's Tough Enough?
I hear all the cogs ticking but I genuinely can't believe this guy didn't get further than he did. He was a solid worker, good on the mic & had the greatest entrance theme ever.
He also got the biggest pop I have ever heard when he eliminated a certain Mr Callaway one cold, dark, Royal Rumble evening.
What were your thoughts on Maven Huffman?

Awesome performances is what I remember him for. What about when Maven was Raw GM?
I mean they don't just hand out that position.
And that mono-brow, what an asset to have in your locker. Ex Teacher to professional wrestler the man is an icon. Should have been a multi world champion

Re: Maven Appreciation Thread
Not a bad CV to have from his time in WWE.
First Tough Enough winner
Eliminated Undertaker from a Royal Rumble
Former Hardcore Champion
Former Raw GM (for one night only)
Maven for WWE Hall of Fame 2012?

Re: Maven Appreciation Thread
I remember arguably the match of year in 2003, Maven vs Triple H at Heat That match managed to bring back, albeit briefly, the days when Heat meant something.
I mean the kid has the knowledge of Al Snow, the skill of Shelton Benjamin, and the promoing ability of a young William Shatner.
Maven not winning a World Title just goes to show how sizable the probems in WWE have always been.

I wouldnt go so far as to say he should have been world champion, but he definatly was a solid worker, no doubt.

Re: Maven Appreciation Thread
What we are missing here is that he had a genuinly brilliant entrance song, you could say that for every headline impressive performance, you get an equally impressive under-the-radar one. And Big Mother Thruster delivered it. Whilst Motorhead and Limp Bizket were dropping pipe-bombs, Big Mother Thruster were quietly cleaning up the debris

Re: Maven Appreciation Thread
He wasn't my cup of tea.
But then what I liked about him was that you didn't know where he was coming from. He could hit you with a gutbuster powerbomb or he could hit you with a 450 splash. He had it all in his arsenal.
I think he had the ability to look beyond what wasn't needed, and just focus on what was needed. And that was a real strength. And I didn't see Tough Enough, but I imagine that that is the reason he won it. Cutting the crap.
I don't think a World Championship was too far a call. At one point he had a genuine presence and likeability. The fans took to him and he had a head like a baby. There's a reason why Taker put him over in that Rumble - and it's because he, like some of the people on this thread, could see the potential in him.
I've just been having a think about Maven, and I can't really remember a thing he did. But then when I think about it, I remember almost everything. And that is what was so good about Maven. When he was on screen, you may not have sat up and taken notice, but it seeped into the subconscious. That's a real talent. When I compare him to someone like Dr Death who I can't remember a single thing about.
Like I said, he wasn't really my cup of tea, but he could wrestle, he could talk, and he could put some real psychology into a match. He was probably a victim of his time - too many spotlight stealers. If he was around now, I reckon he'd be a really successful lower midcard.

Re: Maven Appreciation Thread
I think after his WWE stint and his impressive performance on Blind Date ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsJO4r47D1w&feature=related ), it proved he had the likeability factor. Like many have said, if he wasn't around the same time as Edge, Chris Jericho, Rock, Angle, HHH, Taker, Austin and Rikishi then he really could have made it big.

I really liked the kid. His eleminaiton of the Undertaker was one of a few reasons why i brought the royal rumble 2002 dvd.
Great energy whenever he enterd a wwe ring i would take him back anyday.

I'll never forget the match where Maven went in there and performed 10 dropkicks in a row.
His opponent was standing in the corner watching it all but still.
