Re: Quiz Questions
It was elementary dear Hodge, firstly you mentioned that you were going back to Uni but didn't mention an arduous journey, being a student and living in the now generation if your journey was a long one it would have been worthy of a mention. Based on that criterion I gave myself an arbitrary radius (from the heart of Somerset) of less than 100 miles to work with.
You did not mention any specific fears with regard to motorway bottlenecks which are fairly prevalent even over a short journey nowadays, and that allowed me to cancel out an M4 trip east into Reading, you cancelled out Exeter yourself which left me with an option of the M4 into Wales or the M5 north. There's little in the way of tertiary educational institutes on the M5 north within 100 miles of my theoretical start point, apart from Hereford, Gloucester or Cheltenham, none of which really held the picture of "slumming it" for long.
So the M4 into "God's Country" it was, and a couple of minutes of mental geographical regurgitation turned up the pefect fit of Neport, University of Wales!
But in reality, you as good as mentioned it in a post on 30 December.

Re: Quiz Questions
we shall from now refer to you as Mr Holmes.
Speaking of which though in your deduction I nearly went to Uni in Gloucestershire. And as for the travelling, driving is probably the thing I am best at so a travel isn't too bad for me as I quite enjoy driving so probably wouldn't have mentioned it anyway if it were a bad one. However the trip over the severn bridge was probably the windiest it has ever been for me travelling over.

Nightmare? Rugby? Drinking? You ain't fooling me pal.
Twas a rare beam of light against the Exiles Gibbo, if Bath had of played St. Winnifred's School Choir last night they'd have got pumped, no doubt.
It's a long game for Bath mo chara, but after 33 years I've got plenty of patience, it won't be long till the mojo's back.

"Cheat" would be a more appropriate sobriquet Hodge.
I'm sure you have many talents and are just being particularly modest, I got stuck on the Thelwall Viaduct once during a storm in the early 90's, the M6 got closed and it took me nearly 5 hours to get over the viaduct and off the motorway. Going across the viaduct so slowly you could actually feel the bridge sway under the car wheels. Is there an emoticon for :shoiteshimselfnoisilyinpureterror:?

Re: Quiz Questions
Its sad I know, but I study fishes, mammals and all things marine. They are my special frens. Been diving for 30 years. They understand me. I tink.
They often ask me: "Why are you lot pishing in our sea and killing us all at the same time? What happens when we all die? Won't you needs us and the Sea to survive?"
And they slag fish for being stupid...
Who invented SCUBA?

Re: Quiz Questions
Do you mean the acronym SCUBA or the actual scuba suit? The acronym was some American naval Officer called Lambert and it was invented by some French man I don't know their name.

T,
They were all French. No Yanks. A lot of them invented apparatus to go diving in. But not SCUBA as we know it.

Again are you talking about the acronym or the device. I know the acronym was invented by an American (Self Contained Water Breathing Apparatus) the suit was invented by the French I said that.

Re: Quiz Questions
Jaques Cousteau - just watched a program about diving as it happens
They covered free-diving, scuba diving, ye olde worlde diving suit with big brass helmet (snigger) and saturation diving.
Tres interesting actually, the free-diver was most interesting though, she can hold her breath for over 5 minutes and dive down to 98 metres!! She tried for the world record of 100 metres but passed out when she got back to the surface - fail, apparently.
Saturation diving was weird, 3 blokes living together in chambers for a month at a time, breathing 5 percent oxygen and helium - sounded like a depressed Mickey Mouse but did enable them to operate at depths in excess of 300 metres without having to decompress every time. Apparently, a five hour dive at 300 metres takes 5 days to decompress, so it's better to keep them all squashed up for a month.....
Aaaanyhoo, one of the first recorded examples of using a diving bell dates back to 325BC by one very well known dude, a king so he was, but who was it?

Shot in the dark. Ive no idea. Was it King Solomon, PJ? He was one smart dude.
Had 1000's of wives/concubines though. Not too smart. Imagine the cacophony of nagging sounds in that house? Or trying to get to the bathroom? 1000 burds all going together with their handbags.
Man was an eejit, really.

I'm not big on Star Trek beyond the big players, I know Gene Rodenbury wrote it, and the opening speech has a jarring split infinitive in it..... oh and the guys in red always used to get it, and mini-skirts and knee length boots are da bum ting!
Haven't a clue otherwise.
