Are you willing to commit to meeting up on the weekend of 23/24/25th March 2012?
606v2 weekend gathering - Part Deux
The weekend of March 23/24/25th has been suggested as a potential date for us all to get-together for a meet. Hopefully this is early enough in the year to avoid any competitions and it is also 2 weeks before Easter so shouldn't clash with any school holidays.
So, bottom line is, are you prepared to commit to this weekend at a venue somewhere between Birmingham and Manchester that is suitable for the majority?

That weekend looks pretty clear so far.
As well as thinking of the Fri-Sun weekend, it may be worth considering Sat-Mon ... a lot of places offer special packages for Sunday/Monday breaks (guess that's when they are quietest)

Good choice of weekend as that is generally the week before the 'season, starts.
Cost wise the best deals are usual the sunday/monday golf and sunday night hotel.Day off work but cheap as chips. All manner of offers on golfbreaks.com.Carden Park near Chester anyone?

d4s,
Your clocks go forward from GMT to BST that weekend. Bear that in mind when making tee times and calibrating necessary rest after rowdy debauchery the night before!

Id be very much a maybe for those days as Digs junior 2 is expected late Feb. Probably depends on ease of location really.

In that vacinity as well as Carden Park, Mottram Hall, Worsley Park, Shrigley Hall, Portal and Mere or even Herons Reach which is a De Vere in sin city (Blackpool) All the above are hotel/golf resorts

Nice one, I'm in, time to start scanning for winter deals, personally I'd prefer the Southport area because of the choice of courses (Birkdale, Hillside, S&A, Formby, Formby Hall, West Lancs etc) but if the Brum area is closer for the majority then I suppose I can slum it at the Belfry or Forest of Arden for a weekend.

To whoever organizes ... please don't plump for anywhere too elite which might have handicap restrictions - from the list so far it would appear I'm not the only higher handicapper interested.
Also with the abundance of good deals around I'd prefer somewhere not too expensive as once travel is factored in (and drinks of course!) don't want it to be TOO expensive

Yes indeed although the majority of private courses these days have fairly generous (lack of) restrictions. I'd say that most places now are happy to accept anyone with a genuine handicap certificate.
And don't forget to factor in your gambling stakes when working out your budget

That's a strong word, 'commit'. But so long as no-one's going to hang me if it transpires I can't do it, I'll give a tentative yes.

Some decent golf around here, including Birkdale and seem to do some decent deals organising all golf and dinner, bed and breakfast ??

I live in southport, so that area would be ideal. Formby Hall is a good track and as stated above has some reasonable stay and play deals.
If we choose elsewhere, Hawkstone Park is a good choice.

Voted yes, count me in southport not a bad area but one thing to consider is what Davie mentioned think of all abilities as it may not be a fair crack to play somewhere that doesn't suit all, i'll happily play anywhere though

it is abit of an annoying date for me because its normally when i have an annual golf trip with mates. But its early enough to pick another time for that- so if it goes ahead then yeah i am up for it - or hows everyones feeling of inviting non 606ers- would that cause a problem?

Mysti - I can't speak for the others but my feeling is that these events are better with more people. The down side is that if you turn up with a posse of friends, you (and them) may tend to stick together rather than mix with the others which I know from personal experience can be a great.
In the end it's up to whoever draws the short straw to organize but I'd have no problem with you bringing a couple of mates - on the condition that you get them signed up here and join in the fun so that we all feel we "know" them (at least as much as you can know anyone on a forum)
One of the early internet gatherings I attended about 8 or 9 years ago, one of the regulars invited 3 or 4 young lads he worked with (they were all in the army together). The 3 or 4 "strangers" made a real effort to get to know everyone and it worked a treat.
I know not everyone in "real life" like these interweb forum thingies - but it would at least help if some of them popped in to say hello before the event

Re: 606v2 weekend gathering - Part Deux
I see a great opportunity here for a forum entrepreneur to step forward!
If indeed a suitable location and date can be found where certain forum members can be enticed to attend, there is a gret opportunity for someone to start running an auction to be part of a 4-ball with certain participants.
I know I'd be keen to bid a certain amount to be part of a 4-ball with Mac and super - or gael and JPX - I'm sure there are other combinations!
The more altruistically inclined may say that proceeds could go to a 606v2 charity (Help for Heroes perhaps?) - others may say that the proceeds go to the lap-dancers fund
Either way it seems a great possibility!
My only regret is that the event may turn into a North v South challenge and as an exiled Northerner I'd plead my case to be on the Northern side - which sadly would preclude me from being part of a Mac/Super 4 ball!

Re: 606v2 weekend gathering - Part Deux
I don't have an issue with non forum members attending. Indeed, JAS has already met several of my regular buddies and we got along like a house on fire. LJ brought along the Ringer to the "Southern Open" earlier this year and he fitted in well also.
As Davie says, the more the merrier and as so few of us have met so far, I don't foresee there being any cliques. I'm sure it would work out fine

Careful D4S, you're meeting my doubles partner tomorrow and some more Wraggies on Sat. You may live to regret that comment Having said that, I'd certainly appreciate Andy and the Deerhunter's company at an event...in the latter's case...at least for the press up contest in the restaurant
As an aside, I am minded, as an incentive, to offer up a prize for the best golfer of the weekend. Will discuss tomorrow

This idea has a lot of mileage in it, I'll gladly hold the purse strings for lap dancing night in spearmint rhinos!!
But some form of donation to a worthy cause like H4H something close to my own heart for obvious reasons would be superb.
I'd happily bid to play in a game v's SR and Mac,despite our clash of views I think that'd make for an enjoyable round as conversation would be varied and flow. I'd need my el movember tachiod partner to be D4S to compare tache's though
In all honesty there's not a single member of 606 I wouldn't love to have a game with except Keizo I'd end up inserting my hybrid into his rectal cavity after the warm up on the putting green

Re: 606v2 weekend gathering - Part Deux
Mav, I think Mac had better declare his handicap at this juncture rather than announcing that on the tee in March that "this week" he's playing off 20!.
On another note, it will be interesting to see if we ever hear from Keizo again, given the "resignation" of Simba, the similarities were hard to ignore.

What's the betting he turns up at some point between now and the end of this weekend??, a quick scan of the Aussie Open leaderboard suggests that we'll get a Thread along the lines of "The end of the world is nigh for the worlds top 57 players" Surprised it hasn't appeared already.

21 declared so far, plus Mysti's mates if this is acceptable to everyone. There are however only 9 who have voted for the mentioned dates, so those listed below who are ok with the dates, could you vote please. We can then start to make some firm plans about location. It's then just a simple case of getting a deal, agreeing format, handicaps, entertainment food and

Looking at the spread of our home locations, except for a few not known yet. We will be coming from all over:
Cheshire
Kent
Scotland
Sussex
Berkshire
Surrey
Nottinghamshire
Lancashire
South East
Cheltenham
Not sure about D4S, Diggers, JPX, Dynamark or Smithers
Looking at optimum locations factoring in the extremeties Manchester area is the place to be. But if S-R is willing to travel a bit further the best place with shortest distance for everyone else, would be the East or West Midlands. This would however mean that S-R would need to do c320 miles rather than 280 miles?
