Historic merger vote due this afternoon
First topic message reminder :
The result of the vote on the proposed merger of the EGU and the EWGA will be revealed later this afternoon and reports are that the result is likely to be "close".

I find it very puzzling that this isn't a foregone conclusion. Surely it is sense for there to be one governing body for men and women when we play the same game and play by the same rules. I wonder if the resistance comes from women who still think they should only play during the week and leave the weekends to the men (while they do the housework, washing and ironing) or men who think that women shouldn't be seen on a golf course at all.
Have any of you had any influence on this vote and, if so, what do you think is the best way forward?

Can I assume that her existing club is a members club and the new one is a propriety one?
An assumption well made Doon. She will continue with her membership at the current club on an away basis and new one will become her home club. She's getting serious about her golf and where she wants it to take her. So best to get her into a club that can help her fulfil her potential and get enjoyment from it.
George the joining fee debate is something for another thread but imo clubs scrapping high joining fees is a good thing as that means people will join to increase ongoing revenues as for loyalty that's a 2 way thing if the club treat the members right and keep course in good condition there is no need for its members to seek to go elsewhere, besides freedom to move is a choice we should have. If as I say though clubs are providing everything its members need, good course, social activities, good prives on food and drink then members will stay regardless of joining fees

Re: Historic merger vote due this afternoon
On a serious note, I read this thread with dismay. My daughter is now starting to show an interest in golf. She's only 7, so not ready for club championships and medals etc, but what can I do to nuture her interest?
Any suggestions welcome. I don't want to be an Earl Woods / Richard Williams pushy dad.

Ray
Take her out on the course during quiet times and make sure she enjoys herself. Tee the ball up as much as possible Loads of 'good shot' and 'wow that is great'
My daughter caught the bug aged seven by trying to beat her longest drive, which I had to pace out. she played for the County Ladies aged 13 and went on to captain the England schools team. We both used to go to the practice ground. I had a bag of about 100 balls and she would hit about 80 to my 20. We spent more time picking them up than hitting them.
If she shows promise be prepared to step back and let the club/pro take it forward.
