ATP World Tour Finals 2011, London Calling
First topic message reminder :
Here we go again!
Final tournament for the best 8 of 2011: Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, Federer, Ferrer, Berdych, Tsonga, Fish.
Some call it the 5th slam, some see it as an exhibiton, as for me, it presents as a super opportunity to expereience some more tennis thrill before the Christmas off-season, to see, hopefully some good matches and the legends of the game, LIVE!!!!
This time last year, the weather was awful, tube drivers were striking, 606v2 didn't exist, I had a near-death experience, and Nole managed to put TWO lenses in one eye and was considered by most to be a one slam wonder....
Haven't things changed in the meantime ?
So, I'm taking this last opportunity of 2011 to:
1) watch tennis in GMT time-zone and not have to wear massive bags under my eyes every morning
2) see a civilized scenario of 2 matches a day (must say a perfect portion!)
3) enjoy seeing those matches in the packed O2 arena every day for every match
And because one never knows what another day may bring, who may or may not be in London this time next year, because above all we all love tennis, let's enjoy the last stop of this 2011 quirky, cosy tennis ride, let the WTF commence
Order of play for Sunday, 18th of November 2011:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Finals/2011.aspx
P.S.
There will be a few people form this forum going to O2 next week. Please find a bit of time to give us your first-hand impressions and perhaps photos and personal anecdotes.
God willing, I'll be there on Sunday and Monday evening sessions.

It's true. I noticed it a couple of times. I think it's simple the sat image arrives a few secs after the application showing the score on the screen.

Actually Federer reminding us of the frustrations of the last 3 years.
Really lacklustre stuff here.

You didn't get it ...as usual. The crowd doesn't see the TV scoreboard, so they are not under the same spell as the TV viewers.

dunno about more of a spectacle JM, not much of one so far. Give me the Fed who creamed Nadal the other day anytime over this "can"t be too bothered, but will probably nick the third" version.

Fish takes the set, he served better but that's about it. Fed went from 2nd gear to reverse.

His game plan changes from 1 set to another, disappointing set.
If he lost the 3rd set could he still finish 2nd in group?

Hope it's not a Federer/Djokovic semi in terms of excitement, Djoko will play poorly as he did against Ferrer. Berdych/Federer will be much more of a battle.

You need to have grit for a battle...commodity that's just not featuring in Berdy's arsenal....If only someone could shake him up properly and awake some pride in him...

Anyone else notice that the sub-caption for the BBC front page reads "Roger Federer, the only unbeaten man in the tournament, plays American Mardy Fish in his final group match in the World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena." Another example of fine journalism from the beeb.

walkabout in the 2nd there Fed! Great set from Fish - so glad he was able to play after his emotional and injured leave taking of Paris.
Glad to see Fed still unbeaten - so far, crossed fingers and toes etc, etc!
Hadn't seen that howler from the Beeb MFC - do these guys actually do any research at all (scrap that should be watch any matches!) - I mean how hard can it be?

It's like, Murray, Nadal and Djokovic have all lost, that leaves Federer as the only guy who hasn't. What? You say that others are playing too? Surely not!

Re: ATP World Tour Finals 2011, London Calling
I think perhaps they meant the only guy in Group B that is undefeated so far, but it is still a very sloppy bit of reporting not to correct it. Hopefully it will be mentioned tomorrow that Group A also has its own (so far) unvanquished hero, and one who has not conceded a set yet either!

Ferrer deserves more respect than that. . Good point, MfC. Perhaps they should employ some of the ex-606 Moderators as Tennis correspondents.

Honestly? I don't care. I always think that if you want to win something you have to play the best anyway. Whoever comes 2nd is the most dangerous player he could get.

Assuming this is not a WUM question, yes. I think Tipsarevic is desperate for 200 points and privately can't stand Nole. The only thing that may stop him killing himself there for that win would be his injury fom yesterday's slip, which I think was non-existent anyway. He is in better form than Nole, but I hope Nole manages to see him off in 2.
