found this on a NZ site,I agree with Victor`s Opinion,and his reasons,just adding that NH based team players
returning to Bok sides.Have seemed of the pace in the 3Ns especially.

When with Toulon,Matfield,Smit,Bakkies Botha,also others were
Frans Steyn.Butch James,Percy Montgomerie,when they came
back for 3Ns.

Wasn't Frans Steyn the Springboks best player at the WC before he got injured.

Debatable,but when he played the 3Ns[2010],he looked over weight,unfit,and was decidely average at best.

I remember Matfield took at least 1/2 a season to get up to speed when he came back. Obviously the food too good in France.

I agree with matfield as well, but for him it is now easy to say things like this as he is retired. I am sure it won't go down well with some of his teammates.
Yes when frans steyn came back from France he was slow and overweight, in fact his conditioning didn't look good. What does surprise me is that some are questioning that, there were a number of comments on here that suggested that the was.
His conditioning before the RWC did indeed help him a lot, and he was for me our most missed player when he got injued in that bloody samoa game.
Another match that did us more harm than good.
