E-mail this to a friendPrintable version Martin Johnson (left) stepped down as England manager after the World Cup England will have an interim coach for the Six Nations with the aim of appointing a permanent boss for the summer tour of South Africa.
A new role of senior team manager will also be created to handle the national side's non-playing matters.
The Rugby Football Union hopes to appoint a new chief executive by the turn of the year, who will then oversee the recruitment of the new coach.
Rob Andrew will be formally appointed as professional rugby director.
More to follow.
With regards to Rob Andrew being appointe professional rugby director....Does this meen that he has been promoted? If so is this a good thing or a bad thing for England rugby?

Rob Andrew should go without a doubt then they can move forward, he's done nothing but try and deflect pressure away from him onto others.
Ashton is rumoured to be in line, after way he was treated last time I know where I would tell them to stick it.

Difficult to see why Rob Andrew has gained that appointment. There must be a good chance the new CEO won't want him involved going forward.

Re: England to have caretaker for the 6ns
its not a caretaker the RFU need, it's a crime scene cleaner
Organisations often promote underperformers in order to protect themselves.
It seems to me the removal of Andrew from EPS responsibility is a wise move as he has become a hate figure and he is clearly untouchable.
it may be he is too expensive to sack or is so well connected that he cannot be fired.
A new CEO will have to go along to get along with such a self preserving board
Having a senior team manager seems on the first examination to be a knee jerk reaction to RWC. What England don't need is yet more desk jonny's to muddy the waters of who is responsible for what. But if they do go that route then SCW stands out as the perfect candidate.
But as someone already said a new CEO will want to do it his way so to some extent this is all academic.

Re: England to have caretaker for the 6ns
Rob Andrew hasn't been promoted , if anything he has lost some of his power as he'll have no imput or say on the 32 man EPS squad.
The off the field matters will be handled by someone in a new role who will have no imput with on the field matters.
All in all some positive steps from the RFU.
Interm manager is a good call as well as it lets them appoint a CEO who's main role will be to appoint a new England head coach.

no matter how much the RFU dress it up, RA's new role is a demotion. He has no say in the senior England team affairs...which can only be a good thing.

Why not just fire Rob Andrew? Why do the RFU have to continue to be run by incompetent old farts who don't have a braincell between them?

The DOER role was only a temporary appointment, and his faction originaly intended it to be Woodwards role.
Hes bassicaly back in the job hes always had, which to be fair he didnt do too bad a job of.
