Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
No this is not some cruel joke. These things seem to be getting worse every year, starting last year with the Black Eyed Peas. Another terrible decision by whoever organises the show. They should let someone with taste try to get acts to perform, perhaps a straight man.

She'll do OK.
I guess she was considered too raunchy when at her peak and that age and parenthood has mellowed her a touch.
Personally I can't understand why the Killers haven't been asked - home grown church going good boys who also happen to make good music...

I think she's ideal. Been going a while, reinvents every few years but still looks/sounds the same and now matter what crap comes up you can't really hate. And that's just the NFL!

Madonna to sing at half time show.....
What's everyone opinion on this blockbuster announcement?
Who picks the artist every year is it Goodell?
I'd like to see a more established current act rather than these ageing rockers they've started dragging out each year... Rhianna was absolutely perfect for it this year, throw in all the collaborations she's been doing & you could have had the best show ever...
Madonna should of done this around 88-92

Lady gaga, Rhianna, Beyonce or Katie Perry no one else is relevant enough

Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
These might be good shouts for "relevant" artists, Muse? Foo Fighters? 30 Seconds to Mars?
For years I've thought they should have a country themed halftime show with various acts like Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Because after all, country music is all about having a good time and letting loose.

30 seconds to Mars would be a good one, might be a bit too heavy though.
I think with Rihanna or Gaga's sets they'd be worried about another "wardrobe malfunction."

Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
I think there are very few people they could get to do the half time show which could actually make me want to watch it, (thinking like Bon Iver, The Black Keys).

I love The Black Keys but I think they wouldn't create the energy for a good halftime show.
I'll re-think that statement after I see them in Nottingham on Super Bowl weekend.
Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
But why put "energy" over actually good music? I guess it would take out a cruical toilet/drinks/chat break but I can do that during the "analysis" with the BBC coverage.MockingJay33 wrote:Derbyblue wrote:I think there are very few people they could get to do the half time show which could actually make me want to watch it, (thinking like Bon Iver, The Black Keys).

Shania Twain would be the only country act who'd be credible

Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
Madonna will kick off the show with "Vogue" before showcasing her new dance song "Give Me All Your Luvin'" - the first single from her upcoming album, MDNA.
The third song is believed to be a mash-up of "Holiday" and "Ray of Light".
Cee Lo Green and a church choir will join her to wrap up the set with "Like A Prayer".
Whatever anyone says about Madonna - she is an international superstar and cultural icon. Perfect for the Superbowl. I think she'll do a fantastic job because one thing she is good at is performing her music live. I've had the pleasure of seeing her live twice and she was superb. Sit back and enjoy the entertainment whether you like her music or not - because that's what it'll be. Entertaining. I'm looking forward to it and I don't even watch American Football!

Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
Am I the only one who thought the whole set (gestures and swearing apart) was pretty well put together. Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like her music, but she knows how to put on a show. I can't move like that now, let alone when I get to her age (which isn't that far in the distance)!

Although not a massive NFL fan I did watch this. Madonna was absolutely awful, but then I've always despised her music so I wasn't really surprised. As for ideal performers; how about U2?

Oh sh*t you're right
How about Springsteen then?
I'd say The White Stripes but they've split up...what about The Black Keys?

The Wurzels will do for me...
who wouldn't love a medley of "I've got a combine harvester", "I am a cider drinker", "Blackbird" and "Shepton Mallet Matador"

GG - Springsteen has already done it as have U2. As for The Black Keys who are they?!
Whether you like her or not, Madonna is popular and sells ALOT. Her last tour grossed $408million on its own.

The Black Keys are quite possibly the best band EVER!!!
First three are from their latest album "El Camino" and the last two are from the one before "Brothers".

Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
Jay - I asked because I've seriously never heard of them. The thing is, the performers are always hugely popular commercial acts of the time. This trend for using the current popular acts started in the '90s with New Kids On The Block - yeah, crap but massive then. The Superbowl has a huge TV audience, so they want big names to perform - doesn't matter whether they're good or not, as long as they're big. In the past performers have included Michael Jackson, U2, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, James Brown, Kiss, Stevie Wonder - all big sellers.

Re: Madonna To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
As I said above I love The Black Keys but I don't think they would be able to put on a show like a Super Bowl Halftime show because they don't use a big stage when they perform live. Although they're getting more and more popular and mainstream I can't see them ever doing one.
