Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
Australia v New Zealand, 2nd Test
December 9-13, Bellerive Oval, Hobart
Start time: 10:30 local - 23:30 GMT - 07:30 WST
The Second Test in Hobart affords the visitors a climate and playing surface more familiar to their batsmen, whilst Australia will be looking to better their two match winning streak with an unchanged side that performed well in Brisbane last week.
New Zealand have decided to stick with the same XI too and will be hoping for better performances all round and a vast improvement on their mental approach to this match.
Australia:
1 David Warner, 2 Phillip Hughes, 3 Usman Khawaja, 4 Ricky Ponting, 5 Michael Clarke (capt), 6 Michael Hussey,
7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Peter Siddle, 9 James Pattinson, 10 Mitchell Starc, 11 Nathan Lyon.
New Zealand:
1 Martin Guptill, 2 Brendon McCullum, 3 Kane Williamson, 4 Ross Taylor (capt), 5 Jesse Ryder, 6 Dean Brownlie,
7 Reece Young (wk), 8 Doug Bracewell, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Chris Martin.

I'd like to see him get a ton, for old times sake and one for the road.

Don't know if Punter will manage a ton, apparently it's a real green top.
Pretty sure the Aussies will win again though

Christian's in form and playing very well this season. He's already got a hundred and a 90 in first class cricket. His skills are vastly underestimated.cricketfan90 wrote:cricketfan90 wrote:i just find it funny that dan christian is 12th man for a test match

he has an awful technuiqe, just like hughes
christian same as hughes has good f/c record cos they play on flat pitches. Get him on a pitch which has a bit in it for the bowlers and he is clueless.

So England's efforts in the Ashes, mainly Cook and Trott's run where scored on flat pitches?cricketfan90 wrote:he has an awful technuiqe, just like hughes

Hoping that Hughes can bag a biggie as well, his record at Bellerive is fantastic, averages over 70!

Big blow to New Zealand. Daniel Vettori isn't playing,(muscle strain) he's been replaced by left-arm seamer Trent Boult, who'll be making his international debut.

Ouch, huge huge loss. Seems like a pace bowlers pitch this though, and you have to think NZ need to make early inroads when they bowl if they're to have a chance (and of course bat well!).
Re: Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
McCullum (the poor mans Sehwag) needs to buckle down, especially with Vettori out.

nice ball from Siddle, just moves away a bit, enough to catch the edge, and Haddin does the rest. Just the start Australia wanted.

Ryder back to the No3 position, can these two curb their attacking instinct and/or for how long.

Re: Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
Pattinson gets Ryder on review, but there's an element of controversy there, as hotspot seemed to show a mark on the edge of the bat. Would have been good to have seen the side-on view from the leg side.

tell you what though, as a fast bowler you'd be queueing up to be bowling on this one

Gotta feel sorry for the debut umpire, one decision, one mistake. How he must feel
But then again, if Ryder did nick it, then the ump would have been right for the no.

Is there a radio link available, can't be bothered sitting up watching the wickets falling.

Re: Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
there would have been a flurry of noises though, as the bat did hit the pad, so maybe the umpire thought he nicked it. Seems Aleem Dar (the third ump) said that if the ball did hit the bat it was after it hit the pad...

Lots of movement thus far, very tough for the batsman.

well bowlers deserve a few days like this in my book. Anyone want to take a bet on how Phil Hughes will get out? I'm going caught between the keeper and gully somewhere...

I think Nigel Long thought that there was no nick, but the ball was gonna miss off-stump.

Would,nt even put 10p on the bet going against you. Hughes could be batting after tea.

no such luck for Taylor, that was crashing into the top of middle-and-off. Nipped back quite a bit and Taylor misjudged it, well deserved for Siddle who's been fantastic so far today.

Taylor thought it was too high obviously, but Hobart isn't like Perth or even Brisbane, where you can leave the ball on length.

Re: Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
It depends on the rest of this innings and when Aus bat, but if it is very low scoring and hence over inside three days. Does it make this track any better/worse than the Indian deck yesterday.?
Or would you prefer it this way.

Re: Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
as a rule, I prefer tracks to favour the bowlers than the batsmen, but the money men don't, for obvious reasons. The best test pitch I've seen in recent times was the second Aus-SA test, where all four innings registered between 250 and 350 and the result was in doubt going into the last session. That for me is balanced.

...and out just before tea according to cf, skye
Hobart is the closest we have to an English conditions, MfC... like Taunton in April/May perhaps?
Somehwere in between the two skye - Tassie had lots of rain in November, then the last few days it's been warmer than Sydney.

nah Taunton's a road whenever you play on it Lords in April/May may be closer to the truth. Now just imagine if you'd played an Ashes test here instead of Perth, it would barely have been funny anymore
