Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
First topic message reminder :
Australia v New Zealand, 2nd Test
December 9-13, Bellerive Oval, Hobart
Start time: 10:30 local - 23:30 GMT - 07:30 WST
The Second Test in Hobart affords the visitors a climate and playing surface more familiar to their batsmen, whilst Australia will be looking to better their two match winning streak with an unchanged side that performed well in Brisbane last week.
New Zealand have decided to stick with the same XI too and will be hoping for better performances all round and a vast improvement on their mental approach to this match.
Australia:
1 David Warner, 2 Phillip Hughes, 3 Usman Khawaja, 4 Ricky Ponting, 5 Michael Clarke (capt), 6 Michael Hussey,
7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Peter Siddle, 9 James Pattinson, 10 Mitchell Starc, 11 Nathan Lyon.
New Zealand:
1 Martin Guptill, 2 Brendon McCullum, 3 Kane Williamson, 4 Ross Taylor (capt), 5 Jesse Ryder, 6 Dean Brownlie,
7 Reece Young (wk), 8 Doug Bracewell, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Chris Martin.

It probably more like Portugal then Chelsea (if they had pitches)... somewhere that gets battered by high winds and a fair bit of rain.
It can get quite hot in summer - horrible fires there a few years ago.

Williamson looked to be a very good prospect for NZ when i saw him bat when they recently played their test match series in India.

Yes, I'd like to see him do well and have a successful career. Did he play for a county side last summer?

With the last Test match and now this, the NZ top order/middle should feel and rightly so, embarrassed.

I love listening to Ian Smith generally... but you can feel the pain & frustration coming out again. He's a great character.
Only a few months ago at the RWC he was pretty man sausage-a-hoop - so it has sort of balanced itself out now.

Barring Vettori, Brownlie is the only NZ batsman to so far have any credit against their name.

Bad toss to lose wasn't it? I wonder how Australia would have fared if they'd batted first?
Do you get the Cricket Show at lunchtime, Skye? Or more Ashes highlights?

Right. He's speaking now....
Notice how Ian Chappell will just about always make the same point twice?
It's as if we weren't listening properly the first time?

Yeah, me too. He does love the sound of his own voice, no doubt!
That's why in the other thread where Guildford is going through the players 5 at a time alphabetically... I would have given him a 'Yes'. He was a great captain, very ruthless yet stood (and still stands) by his word at all times - and not a bad batsman at all + a very good fielder in the slips.

Have the gales stopped blowing where you are Skye? I saw some pictures of waves breaking over a seawall... ferocious stuff!
So, what's he going to get? 10 or 88 this time?

Yep play called off for the day.
NZ will have to give it everything in the morning.
No way this pitch was a 150.

NZ will surely miss Vettori.
Brownlie showed what was possible if you put your head down... unlike Hughes - but that's not his style as we all know.

Yes, no love lost. What do you think of the inclusion of Mithun and leaving Irfan Pathan at home until the ODIs? If Zaheer isn't declared fit though, he'll probably be the one to fill in.
Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sharma and Ojha will be arriving here shortly... this weekend I believe.

Blimey, shows their intent this time.
I don't really know much about Mithun to give my two penneth worth, but i do know from reading that a lot of Indian fans are not happy with him going.

Didn't they arrive two weeks before the England tour as well... or was it only a matter of days with one practice match?

Re: Australia v New Zealand: Second Test, Hobart
The biggest let down of the day? James Pattinson, He bowled The Fantom first ball and ripped all the excitement out of the day!. He took 4 wickets, but I won't forgive him for the 5th, that too first ball!.
Anyways, Pattinson does look a promissing player. With him, Cummins and Siddle/Harris, Australian pace bowling unit look much more promissing, unlike it looked a year ago.
Now they have a decent option in the spin department, but he'll have his biggest test in the upcoming series against the Indians.
With Watson coming back in, the bowling unit for the Australians should be much more solid, and a challenge for any batting unit.
Will they forget Mitch J for now?
