Grant Shiells and Scotland
I did not get to see the game but seemingly young Shiells more than held his own against Hayman which is some feat even now, the question I have is why is he never mentioned even as a squad member when he plays regularly in the premiership?
I know the Falcons are at the bottom but Euan Murray plays there too. To be honest I have not seen enough of him to give a proper opinion and I was wondering what other people think

Re: Grant Shiells and Scotland
I read a bit about him today, and I think he's only 22 and only really just breaking into the Newcastle team last season. He's still very young in prop terms, so it's unlikely he'll be in the International squad for a couple of years yet.
Re: Grant Shiells and Scotland
Got to admit I kind of agree but we hear about Low, welsh and such like in the regional set up but he is never mentioned despite having quite a few games under his belt.
I also think with the lack of loose heads out there really putting their hands up except chunk I just thought he might be mentioned or brought into the training squads

Re: Grant Shiells and Scotland
He was absolutely class last night....really gave Hayman a torrid night...6'1 and 17st...if he contiunues that form he will be a diamond. The whole front row was excellent.
If we continue to play like that we will have a chance of staying up and continue to give Shiells premiership rugby...

Shiells has been immense this season, gave Hayman a right seeing to. His technique is right up there and with him adding power he's just getting better and better.
Did you know he'd sided with England and not Scotland though?

I read it during pre-season, Tait was praising him as it helped us out with EQ players in the squad.
Not quite sure if it's more of a paper exercise than an actual conscious decision on behalf of Shiells though.

very surprised but can see how it would help out the club when he has not been involved with Scotland. Think we should try his resolve with a Scotland A cap at least

Re: Grant Shiells and Scotland
Pretty sure that he is EQ thru residency, but he has no intention of turning out for them - he is Scot thru and thru, Kelso born&bred. Reckon he may feature in an extended 6Ns squad at some point this year, but as pointed out earlier, he's still young for a prop, still learning his trade - guys like Corbisero and Cole (age-wise) are more the exception rather than the rule OK:Sgt_Pooly wrote:I read it during pre-season, Tait was praising him as it helped us out with EQ players in the squad.

Re: Grant Shiells and Scotland
"One last awkward question for Shiells is greeted with a smile and a sigh, as the dual-qualified scrummager is put on the spot about his international ambitions.
He said: “It is not something that I have to think about, but if it did come down to it I would have to say Scotland.”
