Who has lost the plot the most?
Writing in today's Sunday Times we had "interesting" pieces by Stephen Jones and Clive Woodward.
Stephen Jones continues his love affair with Simon Shaw and seems to be suggesting that he is a must pick for Stuart Lancaster. He also seems to want Haskell, Schofield and Cipriani selected.
However SCW has to win this award for his ideal England backline of Sam Tomkins, Chris Ashton, Ben Foden, Own Farrell, Dave Strettle, George Ford & Ben Youngs.

I assume this would be for WC 2015, surely it's too early for Ford yet?

Tomkins . Sir Clive might have a case for the rest though, apart from Ford who is not even a club regular.

Tomkins played better than a few All Blacks in the Baa Baa's game.

Not from what I saw, he was the worst on the pitch.

Is Shaw even allowed on the pitch with his home help and iron lung?LondonTiger wrote:Writing in today's Sunday Times we had "interesting" pieces by Stephen Jones and Clive Woodward.

Morgannwg, you would say that as he's English. Change the record, son.Morgannwg wrote:Not from what I saw, he was the worst on the pitch.

Not true. The League convert was terrible. Besides that, he's slow, he's skinny, he can't catch. I don't see what he has got to offer. You're better off sticking with Ashton!

Lost the plot? I think congratulations are in order for Woodward, one heck of a way to wind up RL fans by selecting Tomkins. Wumming taking to the streets or in this case the carp newspapers.

Tomkins is a very very good player. He looked a little out of his deph in the Barbarians match but he really hasnt played very much rugby. If he were to take to the game then he is a very good pick. If you have ever watched him play RL then you will know that he is every bit a class player.

San Tomkins, becase Vanilkolo Hape Farrel wasnt a big enough F up.
I think you need to be looking at a minimum 1 year playing Union before selecting these guys. Players like Jiffy and Robinson were able to switch because they had played and followed Union previously. Tomkins hasnt even expressed a desire to play it, ahe didnt even know what numbers the varuous positions were. He clearly has ability, but a basic understanding of the game helps too.
I dont think you can take anyone performance in a BArabarians match too seriously.
Looking at the other names on SCWs list you can only assume hes talking 4 years time, and that Stephen Jones is smoking crack.

Nice consolation try though - when the Wallabies were distracted thinking about the coach trip back to the Bush.

Line, you must rate him as a RL player though, surely?
I just feel that if he does make the switch then he will be a very worth while player in a year or two. Like PSW says, dont throw him in the deep, let him play club rugby for a year and watch how he goes before selecting him for representative matches.

Re: Who has lost the plot the most?
Sure Billy, I do.
I was just throwing a different light on Morgan's post... in jest to SafeAs' reply.
He was not the worst player really. It would have a been a huge ask for him to shine in that match the way the Wallabies were playing. I agree with you - given a season or two with a good club and I'm sure he would do very well.
It was an odd decision to throw him into that match I thought... but if the scoreline had been closer and the Bar-bars on the rampage - then he probably would have been in the thick of things.

Ok, fair dues Line
He would pose some attacking threat in broken play. As for him not being quick, not sure about that as he is pretty quick and very strong.

These people are paid to write.....(we really need that slaphead smiley back).Maybe becoming a journalist would be a good job to get into.....
I suppose at least they make discussions. If Stephen Jones consistently made sensible suggestions wouldn't it get boring after a while?

Because he's scored 15 tries in 18 matches? I know, it's phenomenal isn't it?

He was pretty poor though. Most League converts struggle in their first few Union games. Iestyn Harris's Hatrick for Cardiff being a rare NH exception, but he struggled later.Linebreaker wrote:Sure Billy, I do.
