Who should start at Loosehead Prop against Scotland in the first 6N match
606 Picks the England Team to play Scotland in 6N - Loosehead Prop
Long time since we did this (possibly). I will set up a position a day and lets see what we get. Each poll will be active for 3 days.
Let me know if I have missed an obvious candidate please.

Corbs edges Marler for me. Solid scrummgaer and the best we've got, still very young, especially for his position, will get better with experience, has performed well for England when given the chance.

Corbisiero without a shadow of a doubt.
He did very well for England in the last 6 Nations, but then was shunted down the pecking order by the returning Sheridan and Stevens, neither of whom showed anything during the World Cup to suggest that they should be given the shirt again.
He has improved his scrummaging immensely and deserves the chance to cement himself into the shirt.
Next question.

Just as a minor point of order to the OP, Chris Budgen is a tighthead.

TBH I could not remember, but someone earlier suggested they would rather he was in than Marler - so I was disqualifying him.Ozzy3213 wrote:Just as a minor point of order to the OP, Chris Budgen is a tighthead.

Don't see why you'd look beyond Corbs for the LH (or Cole on the TH side - Hartley probably gets the hookers jersey by default). Young, and has done a more than competent job so far for England.
Couldn't understand why Stevens was selected ahead of him for the France game after Stevens had struggled in the scrum v Scotland (and offered not that much in open play).

Is Tim Payne still alive?
Flatman and Budgie are slightly less worrying suggestions.

Sheridan for me is the only credible candidate. I appreciate he is injured, but is he definitely out for all the 6Ns? Corbs is the next best and will only improve with more games. But Sheridan always makes a significant impact for England. The scrum is far more solid and he is so physical on the gainline. He gets criticised for not being the best scrummager or not doing more with ball in hand, but England always suffer for his absence. He was close to retirement after the RWC injury, but I believe his prognosis was better than feared. Anyone know how his recovery is going and what his future looks like?

Huge,
The last Id heard he was offered his insurance payout to retire but turned it down. Shows the guy has some real grit, but possibly that hes short a few brain cells.
We've seen for Thommo that the assemsnets can be a bit over dramamtic and over cautious but Sheridans not gaunteed to ever be fit enough to play again.
The recovery period for his operation is 3-6 months, so he could be back on the field in late January if he recovers well...again not garaunteed for a guy whos starting to get on a bit, and this is his thrid operation on it in like 2 years or so.
Hes always going to be an injury liability. If he does make a return again Id trust the England medics would make their own assesments and present the new coach with a good outlineof the risks of him breaking down again.
I wouldnt want England starting an injury liability, equally if he genuionly has made a real recovery and is playing well in good time he should be considered

Aye,
Everything I read suggested that Sheridan would not be back for Sale before the 6Ns starts - so is a non-starter for the first game.

I think that you have to forget Sheridan. He is not so much better than Corbs as to risk him. Cannot be Cole - he got a real wedgie from Murray in World Cup. Should be a pretty reasonable England front row if Hartley can refrain from slapping anyone and having a nice sit down for the remainder of the game.

Voted Corbs, but it was close between him and Mullen, who I rate highly when fit. Nick Wood third and Marler forth pick (I'm sure I typed the same thing yesterday on the Marler for England thread )

LT, that's totally ageist! He's not as old as the Bull = greatest lineout jumper ever. FACT.LondonTiger wrote:Long time since we did this (possibly). I will set up a position a day and lets see what we get. Each poll will be active for 3 days.

Anyhew, he's a tighthead (even if he did rumble out at loosehead against the Dragons )
