Froch vs Ward LIVE
First topic message reminder :
Christ, they've got Khan on the panel.
I'm hoping Barry Mac sparks him.
Thoughts guys? Rooting for Froch big time, head so wants to have a bet on Ward by UD but can't bring myself to do it.
C'mon Carl!
p.s. lets hope they move Froch's missus away from a microphone this time round

Re: Froch vs Ward LIVE
Obviously the big two are years down the line for Brook (if they're even still around), and the likes of Berto, Jones, Alexander and Ortiz are well off, but who would you put him in with?
I'd stick him in with Paulie Malignaggi, personally. Paulie sells a fight well and punches like a girl. Brook would beat him comfortably.
What about Aydin, Shenchenko, El Massoudi, Solomon, Lujuan, Zaveck - i've seen next to nothing of any of these?

Why does Khan act like such a bitter Holly Wilaboobie?

Re: Froch vs Ward LIVE
Khan shouldn't go up to welter until he wins back his belts and defends them a couple of times. He is still young and has plenty of time and defending them against mandatory's will help him sort out his defence.
Khan vs Brook will be a belter in 18 months to 2 years time.

Froch does seem to look nervous. The last time I saw him looking this nervous was in the beginning rounds against Taylor. He was getting seriously out-boxed in the early rounds in that fight until he found his feet and Taylor gassed.
He can't afford to be nervous and tentative in this one.

Why put him in with someone like Malinaggi if you think he'd win comfortably? I've heard people on here say they think Brook could handle Berto, Ortiz and Jones. About time we found out. Try get him in with Senchenko then one of the above 3. We know he can beat up binmen.

I'd agree with that WHU, it was a good move by Hearn to put him on this show. Better than being on Boxnation supporting Cleverley.

Maybe not, but they're non-standout world-ranked names, no?
Sticking him in with a Berto, Jones, Ortiz or Alexander too early could potentially be career suicide.

He's had 26 fights. How much time do you want to give him?

Malignaggi's a ticket seller, and a reasonably good name to have on your CV, even after a few defeats. As i said, he talks a good fight, too. I think that'd be great exposure for Kell, and easily winnable.
Malignaggi, then a fight for a lesser belt, then maybe Berto.
Jones would be too strong for him, and Ortiz too dangerous, at this point.

One more fight at a higher level then (if he wins of course) it must surely be time for the bigger guys a la Ortiz and Berto.
Like Paperbag said, he's had 26 fights and is not a kid.

Re: Froch vs Ward LIVE
Think Kell would acquit himself well against any of those guys. Ortiz has shown his frailties and naiveity of late and yet would be a better name in the USA than those mentioned above. Berth also seems to have peaked as wellmonzon wrote:DAVE667 wrote:What about Aydin, Shenchenko, El Massoudi, Solomon, Lujuan, Zaveck.

He's 25!
This is our problem, the build 'em up, knock 'em down mentality. Every new fighter's proclaimed 'world class' before they are, often put in with better American fighters, beaten and written off.
I'm not saying he shouldn't be in with Jones, Ortiz, Berto, etc, at some point, just that it makes more sense for it to naturally happen a year or two down the line.

Re: Froch vs Ward LIVE
I cant help but feel that people are a lot more patient with Brook than they are with other fighters. I wouldn't be harping on about him stepping it up if he didn't look so good. Khan in the same number of fights has fought Kotelnyk, Maidana and Peterson and even a past it but slightly dangerous Judah. Brooks fought nobody..

I think Malignaggi too. A good testing ground at fringe world-class level. Malignaggi's durable too and a good boxer so it'd be great if Kell could get him out of there and good experience if he can't.

Re: Froch vs Ward LIVE
Brook should go in vs Malinaggi as he is a name and a skilled operator who shouldn't hurt him. He has had 26 fights and is 25 but doesn't need to be rushed too soon. Ortiz and Berto are going at it again in February so they won't fight again untill june. The winner or loser would be a good fight for kell if he can get past a fighter like paulie. Devon is too risky as he has been beat 3 times but his record only shows 1. Kell doesn't need to lose on a hometown decision at this stage of his career. I would even try to entice maidana to welterweight as maidana is a name and always comes to win but is easily outboxed

Don't think that proves anything. He cant punch and isn't really a good boxer anymore.. Outboxed and stopped by Hatton and Khan why pick on whats left of him? Its a no risk fight so what will we and Brook learn?

I wouldn't read into it. Froch looked scared in the weigh in stare down with both Pascal and Abraham and look what happened there,

Haven't seen enough of Ward to know if this build up is different to the previous fights.
Despite the staredown, I do sense they think a lot of each other.
Ward seems a good guy.

Re: Froch vs Ward LIVE
I thought Ward kept his cool, Froch TRIED to but didn't imo.
Anyways (haven't read the whole thread) but what time is the fight?
p.s is it just me fed up with British fighters being extra cocky, be confident yes, but how stupid will Carl feel watching back his face off (should he lose)... him, Khan, Haye, I miss when our fighters were ok and not too hard on the trash talking stuff. Maybe they should look at Hatton and the fact that he was loved and he has better legacies than all of them and earned more.

Win, lose or draw, where do you think Froch rates when compared to the great British figters of the last 20 or so years?

I put him as the top British guy right now, win or lose.
Win would put him right up there for the last 20 or 30 years.

Well, depends on how he wins I suppose. You're right though, it wouldn't prove a huge deal. However, it'd be a big(ish) name American on his record and it's a match-up that the networks would happily put on the undercard of a big fight so that'd be more exposure. I have to say though, even though Malignaggi has lost a few, I don't think he's shot yet and has plenty of self-belief; his gobby nature seems to convince me of that. The thing is though, I don't think he's ready for Jones, Berto and Ortiz yet (and certainly not Floyd, Mosley or Pacquiao - not that they'd patronise the idea of fighting Brook) so where else is there to go? He's higher rated than most other fighters. Senchenko possibly...

Some reason I haven't quite taken to Froch, but it would be good for British boxing if we finished the year on a high.

Senchenkos a good shout. He's beatable but a very credible win, brings a world title and gives him big fight experience and a bargaining chip. Look at Ward. Hes had less fights than Brook and look where hes at... I may be being impatient but Brook looks good enough.. Nearly there now..
