Tavis Knoyle out of 6 Nations
Scarlets say he needs a shoulder op in the new year, will be out for three months.
So for the squad:
Phillips (subject to release shenanigans)
Ll Williams
Webb? Davies? Evans?
Peel?

Poor Lad...! might explain his dip in passing and form of recent. Better to get it fixed and get back fit and strong.
Has a long career ahead of him.
With regards to the Scrumhalf Choices I presume Gats is thinking along the lines of Phillips first, Williams Second and the third I presume will be a toss up between who ever plays best out of Gareth Davies and Rhys Webb.

An outsider might be Tom Habberfield of Bridgend and the Ospreys. He is in great form, particularly with the Sevens Squad.

No might about it, outsider to say the least. With Webb, Evans and Davies, there is surely a third man. I'm working on the basis Gatland will want Phillips and Williams by hook or by crook.

Well, I still don't rate Hook and where has Crook burst on the scene from ? Ammanford ? Llandeilo ??Glas a du wrote:No might about it, outsider to say the least. Crook would struggle at Outside half, he has played all his rugby at Lock... or is it Cook?

I cant see past...
Phillips
L.Williams
Webb
Then, Webb has been impressive this season, the only stumbling block is that he is not first choice for his regions (thanks to incompetent coaching) whereas G.Davies is. Still, I expect Webb to be selected (its not like Gatland doesn't often undermine the O's coaches, Prydie + Phillips, Hook at 10...)

Williams and Webb would be my choices, Webb in particular has played well this season and for much part of last season for the Ospreys.

Evans, Webb and Williams personally, but I can't see Phillips being left out.

Re: Tavis Knoyle out of 6 Nations
Bit of a relief since that is one less mediocre player into our national squad. But all the best to him and hopefully a speedy recovery, I want him to come back fitter and a better player and I'm sure he wants to do just that.
I think Williams is first choice as he last started for Wales. Phillips was class in the world cup and Gatland will do everything in his power to get him into the squad. That's two good scrum halves that we have with opposing styles and it can be used to great effect.
The third scrum half is a coin toss between Webb and Gareth Davies, both have played very well this season. We would be incredibly desperate to call Peel, desperate as in 5 injured scrum halves.

Re: Tavis Knoyle out of 6 Nations
Its never nice to see a player out because of injury and good luck to him with his recovery but I have never been convinced by Knoyle.
For me I reckon the first 2 slots are Phillips and L Williams with a close battle between Webb and Davies for 3rd slot, Wayne Evans' form has been poor of late for us so can't see him in frame at mo.

Re: Tavis Knoyle out of 6 Nations
I have been a big fan of Knoyle, he was very much one of the good things about the Scarlets last season. But since he went off with the Welsh Squad for the RWC he lacked game time.. Three matches, none full appearances in about six months.
Players need game time to stay sharp and focused at his age...
Some rest recovery and getting his injury right will set him up. Scarlets are lucky to have some very good back up scrum halves in Gareth Davies and Rhodri Williams.

Webb is first choice at the Ospreys. Its just that Fotuahli'i is a big money international signing so has to play some games. I'd like Webb or Peel to brought into the squad. What happened to Fury?

Re: Tavis Knoyle out of 6 Nations
GoWales - I was wondering when the first person to mention Fury would pop up. He seemed to be one of those random wild card selections that Gatland made for apparently no real reason.
To be honest we have a handfull of decent scrum halves to look at playing in Wales (Evans at the Dragons, Webb at the Ospreys, Williams & Rees at the Blues, Davies at the Scarlets), and then when you look at the exiles there are even more (Roberts at Northampton, Peel at Sale, Phillips at Bayonne)
