Scotland squad for 2012 Six Nations (very provisional)
First topic message reminder :
Now that the 1872 Cup is done and dusted, and most of the Heineken Cup group games have been played, who would make it in to your 34 man training squad for the Six Nations?
I've organised the players into two XVs, with a few extra players to make up the 34. Where possible, I've chosen players based on recent form, but also their most recent games at the World Cup. In some cases, I've picked on potential form, particularly for Beattie who has shown a bit of his 2010 skills in recent weeks. There are loads of young Scottish players who I'd like to have put in, but for whom this Six Nations comes just a bit too soon - they should have a shot at the tour in June (such as Scott, McInally, Welsh, Niven, Ryder, Wilson, and Fusaro).
1st XV
1. Chunk Jacobsen
2. Ross Ford
3. Euan Murray
4. Richie Gray
5. Jim Hamilton
6. Rob Harley
7. Ross Rennie
8. Kelly Brown
9. Chris Cusiter
10. Greig Laidlaw
11. Max Evans
12. Sean Lamont
13. Nick De Luca
14. Joe Ansbro
15. Rory Lamont
2nd XV
1. Ryan Grant
2. Dougie Hall
3. Moray Low
4. Grant Gilchrist
5. Al Kellock
6. David Denton
7. John Barclay
8. Johnnie Beattie
9. Mike Blair
10. Ruaridh Jackson
11. Lee Jones
12. Graeme Morrison
13. Stuart Hogg
14. Jack Cuthbert
15. Hugo Southwell
Also in squad:
Scott Lawson
Geoff Cross
Roddy Grant
Jim Thompson

If he shirks his tackles, carries the ball like a player half his size and "saves his energy" during the warm-ups to the game then we'll know......

World Class Phil is back in the Scotland squad...
"Phil Godman, the 29-year-old Edinburgh Rugby stand-off, has been called into the Scotland squad for the opening two games of the RBS 6 Nations Championship...
He is enlisted as Ruaridh Jackson has not yet returned to match action following"

I watched Sale last night and Fraser MacKenzie left the field with what looked like a nasty arm injury. Possible chance for Grant Gilchrist to be included as a late replacement - he should be next in line for my money. Ryder is good, but I prefer Gilchrist.

It seems like MacKenzie is out with a dislocated shoulder. Which is a real shame! Gutted for the fella

It's a shame because he has been playing really well at Sale, but ultimately with Kellock's recent performance he wouldn't have made the final match day squad. Neither will his replacement, so hopefully Robinson won't pick Jason White or Scott Murray.

Agreed FES. Gilchrist comes in for me.
You've gotta love the Macphail Scholarship.
2005 – John Barclay
2006 – Graham Hogg
2007 – Kevin Bryce
2008 – Roddy Grant
2009 - Lewis Niven
2010 - Finlay Gillies
Then Leonard, Gilchrist and Turner last year. A fair amount of success there isnt there.
On another note. Have you seen the U20 team for tonight's match vs. the Club Select team?

And there you go. Robbo has plumped for Tom Ryder.

Re: Scotland squad for 2012 Six Nations (very provisional)
Predictable I guess. Next off the cab rank.
That said, his restart take against Leinster on Sunday was completely unscottish. He called it, caught it and then set it up nicely. Almost worth the Sky TV bill on its own.
It's not a bad pick, I'd just have rather seen Gilchrist involved. His time will come I'm sure.

It's a great scheme. Seems to have worked a treat this time round on Leonard and Gilchrist. The only one on the list I genuinely haven't heard of is Kevin Bryce. I assume the Welsh poached him and renamed him Priestland or something like that.........

I gather he was a flanker for Stirling. Now he's a hooker for Heriots and plays with Alan Dymock, who writes on the Scottish Rugby Blog.
