2012 Olympic Team
Just wonder who you guys would have in your 2012 GB Olympic Team and would it have been better to have had a mini competition to put just one team in as was once discussed?

Pretty decent team. I take it you think Cleverley is going to the Euro's?

Re: 2012 Olympic Team
Whatever team is put out for the 2012 Olympics, there is unlikely to be any Scottish players in it as they aren't good enough.

i think all nations should be represented , wether they are good enough or not.
however would scotlands stance on team GB be different if they had a lot of decent players

There are plently good players from Scotland, Wales and NI who could play for the team, typical English ignorance thinking there are only English players who could play.

i think its more about the fact 'are they allowed to play' .
i think its fair to say most will be english, and we have a couple of garanteed welshies, but its an under 21 tourney- no reason not to throw talents from all countries- that would give it much more unity- and i am sure that would be the case if the other nations wernt so adamant of not doing it

Re: 2012 Olympic Team
Of course they can play, there is no lawful impediment for them not to. They are not contracted to a football association, as the Olympic Football is not about associations in a british sense, so any small minded Scottish beaureacrat wouldn't have a case in he thought Scottish players couldn't play.
Pearce has already mentioned a number of players he wants, and they all seem keen to oblige.

Re: 2012 Olympic Team
Be nice to see a full on GB squad. We as a collective nation might actually win something. I'd still hate Gerrard, Terry, Cole etc, but I might feel a bit more like getting behind them if they were representing the country as a whole.

Re: 2012 Olympic Team
I hope the GB team doesn't turn into a farewell tour for Beckham, Giggs and Scholes.
I would much rather Pearce left them alone and uses the over 23 picks more wisely.
I don't think that they should please all the home nations either. You have to be there to win gold. I am presuming the squad will be heavily made up of English and Welsh players.
One question I have is will players that play for the Republic of Ireland like James McCarthy, Ciaran Clark and Shane Duffy be available as all were born in the UK.

Re: 2012 Olympic Team
I don't think it has, I've looked around it for it, and as far as I am aware the only information known from it is that Gareth Bale, David Beckham and Jack Wilshere are on the list. I think Craig Bellamy and Steven Fletcher are as well.

Re: 2012 Olympic Team
He should pick the best possible team and look to the future, barring a miracle England have no chance of winning the Euros, so any player who is eligible for this by age (U23) and Rooney, who would miss the first 2 Euro games anyway, should be in this team, the reality is, in the 18 man squad, only Bale, possibly Ramsey and a keeper wouldn't be English anyway.
