Floyd Mayweather
Well who said money cant buy anything? Floyd has had his jail sentence postponed to June 1st so he can fight in May with an opponent yet to be confirmed. As I said in a previous thread, the economics benefit he brings to Vegas would have an effect. Lo and behold, the Vegas authorities asked the judge ot postpone the sentence so Floyd can fight in May.
Now, I like Floyd. But this sucks. I want to see the Manny fight, but I seriously hope Manny doesn't accept the fight. You cant reward such behaviour by Floyd and especially the Vegas authorities who want to postpone justice because of money.
I can almost bet that everything will be done to stage the Manny fight in May because of the jail time and the pressure put on both parties by the Vegas people, TV companies and others.
So...the fight is on,but it shouldn't.
Thoughts?

Everything apart from Manny's side! Manny won't fight him and he'll fight JMM, Bradley or Peterson IMO.
Manny is also still pursuing his defamation lawsuit against Floyd, which will surely cause problems which he knows.

I think it's great because once again it'll show how team Pacquaio & Bob Arum have been ducking & dodging all along.
Arum has already said he was surprised by this decision and that Manny will be fighting in June after already stating that Manny would be ready for May 5th.
LOL it's a joke.

Is this true? If so this is hilarious, I think Manny's ego is so big and his huge entrourage sheild him from reality somewhat and what the boxing fans think.
Prediction, when Manny is asked about this he'll miraculously lose his ability to speak good English and say "Bob Arum is my promoter, you need to ask him."

Yeh it was on Dan Rafael's Twitter not long ago.
Then there was Max Kellerman's Twitter:
Arum said May 5th was a possibility if Marquez was opponent. #ducking
LOL it's unbelievable.

The way I see it is that the TV companies, the casinos and others see Floyd going to jail as probably killing his career. Their biggest boxing cash cow will be no more. So they will put pressure on all concerned to make the fight. I reckon it will happen. Arum will have no-where to go.

Going to jail definitely does't kill Floyd's career at all. If anything it only enhances it. Floyd loves playing the bad guy role; now he's going to be going jail (June time I think) once he comes out he'll be bigger than ever (ala Tyson).
But you're right about Arum; he'll have nowhere to go now.
Re: Floyd Mayweather
It may play into Floyd's reputation, but the major players dont care much for reputations. They care for money and floyd brings it if he keeps on winning. There's no telling what prison would do to him, so they may not want to take a chance on their cash cow being less that he was...a la Tyson.

Nonsense....If it's good for the economy in these trying times...puts people in work and it's only a deferment then what's the harm....
Get off your high horse about everything....

Ridiculous argument from you there Truss. Say it was Joe Sixpack and he didn't want to miss his daughter's birthday? After all buying a present would be good for the economy also. Should we have laws for the rich in times of a recession?

Who cares about what happens outside the ring, I for one never have never will, it's a fight we all want to see so don't see why anyone would have such a negative attitude when it becomes a possibility.

You're not going to become abusive are you??
I said I'd take the Mayweather scenario everytime....never said it was perfect...
However he has had a deferrment because he is in the position to provide work and money to an ailing economy...
If he'd escaped punishment I'd agree with you...
But leave out the Gingrich stuff..I care about blue-collar jobs which kind of tells you which boat I rock..
You're passionnate..I like that!! But think before you judge!!

What has Hilton got to do with anything? I'd rather the floyd scenario than a murderer walking. Its just as ridiculously revelant. In short its irrelevant.
The bottom line is that Floyd assaulted a woman. He was sentenced. That sentence was deferred so he (and the state) can make some money. Its laughable. If you commit a crime, you go to jail if found guilty. You dont postpone that sentence to suit yourself. Didn't pablo escobar build his own jail and walked because it stopped his ability to make money?
Give it up Truss.

I'm a boxing fan not a humanitarian, what Mayweather does outside the ring is irrelevant to me, I want to see him fight Pacquiao and if a deference of his sentence makes that happen then happy days as far as i'm concerned.

Well I disagree with you there. Justice means more than an hour of entertainment. Ask those who boycotted sports in s.africa.

He walked and was killed by the Americans...as were most of his cohorts..
Give it up??? Why because I see the bigger picture!!!
He knows he's going to prison...other Men get away with beating spouses who are too afraid (or poor) to go to the police...
He's paying for his crimes but doing some community service before hand as well!!!
you give it up.......try to be less narrow minded...

I see the bigger picture. I said on another thread that the Vegas money men would do all they can to make his stay very short. This was before the edferred sentencing.
Personally I dont agree that there should be one sentencing guide for the rich. Only in America eh.

Az is there anything you would argue about. Who gives a monkeys if he hit his wife, I don't, it has no bearing on my life or yours. You sound like an old woman on one of those phone in radio shows sometimes.
Possibly the biggest fight of our era is close to happening and your crying the blues cause Floyd gets his jail term moved a few months.
Wise up man

Re: Floyd Mayweather
McK its not about that. He is a convicted felon and as such should be treated the same way other crims get treated.
Certain things are more important than boxing.
And as you know when I have a strong opinion about something I never give up.

Anyway, if they fight, Floyd wins easy. The fight shouldn't happen in May though.

It only crosses over when you decide to make a mountain out of a molehill as you do almost all the time whenever anything political is talked about. I want to see Floyd Mayweather the boxer fight the best out there, couldn't give two shiny sh1ts about the american judicial system.

An Alvarez fight would be a bigger challenge. No doubt Floyd wont add weight stips. Should he win I wonder where he should be rated in the ATG list? Would this enhance it or make no difference. Alvarez is a huge JMW.

Re: Floyd Mayweather
Would be a great fight as well, Mayweather obviously isn't the one who doesn't want to fight the top fighters either.
I don't think for one second Pacquiao is scared, its Bob Arum. Pacquiao needs to tell him straight to get the fight made right now. If he fights Marquez again and looks a fool the fight is less lucrative.
I said a very long time ago on 606 if Pacquiao fights Marquez again, we can forget about the floyd fight because Marquez will make him look ordinary. That might have happened last time luckily it didn't, if the Marquez fight happens again that will definitely be the case.
The stage is set, no excuses, get the fight on!
