Tiger's not happy...
First topic message reminder :
...about Hank Haney's new book, just wait til he sees what Stevie Williams has in store.
Unusual to see Tiger voicing strong opinions in the media, maybe he's opening up more... or maybe the book is worth reading!
What do you think, is this poor form on Haney's part?

I am a loser, but not sure I really want to read it. It may be far too upsetting to read someone slate tiger.

Re: Tiger's not happy...
Why would it be upsetting? It's not as if you know him, plus there are plenty justifiable reasons to slate him.
If you are going to read a biographical type book, it helps if it's an interesting person to begin with. I can't imagine how talking about coaching a wooden, dreary egomaniac could be of interest to anyone.

To be fair, Pinocchio seems to get some pretty good press.

No, just checked the local bookshop and they don't have it. Pity cos I was really looking forward to getting an insight into the greatest sportsman who has ever lived.

Calling a golfer "the greatest sportsman" is an insult to proper sportsmen.

golf is sport, therefore golfers are sportsmen. How would you define a proper sportsman?

Of course, golf is a sport.
Next someone will tell my cycling isn't a sport because they do it sitting down.

I'm sorry, golf may well be a sport, but you can't call someone who walks around and has his bag carried for him "the greatest sportsman who ever lived".
Phil Taylor has been World Champ about 15 times. Is he a "great sportsman"?
Even in golf, Woods is not the greatest. So a bit of perspective please.

Owens? Ali? C.B. Fry? Max Woosnam? Haile Gebrselassie? Lars Riedel? Jan Zelezny? Sergei Bubka? The list is endless; even in golf you have Nicklaus.

Do you think Haney is waiting for the book deal pay checks to run out before he exopses the drug taking scandal and cashes in with the tabloids?

Re: Tiger's not happy...
Guys, I have just procured a copy of the book and coincidentally enough, Haney describes early on why he thinks Tiger is the greatest: "He's a genius in the most exacting sport there is- physically, technically, mentally, emotionally. Nicklaus might have the greatest overall record, but no one has ever played golf as well as Tiger Woods, and no one has ever been better than his competition by a wider margin. He's the greatest."
Case closed.

Re: Tiger's not happy...
Haney's comments hold no more worth than anybody else's, unless of course he's coached every top pro in every sport ever, which have course he hasn't.
As for golf being the most exacting, as much as I like it and as difficult as it is it isn't reactionary or dynamic enough to be that big a strain on your motor and reactionary skills to be deemed the most exacting. Yes, it requires coordination and timing, but I think its a very big stretch to call it the most exacting sport, certainly not in terms of talent and technique. Lots of sports require the skills used in golf, but in a dynamic situation where the ball isn't stationary.

Have many of you read Haney's book then? My main thought while reading it was that super realist isn't too far off the mark in his assessment of Woods!

Might not have sold quite as well if Haney had described Tiger as a real pussycat who was lovely to everyone.

It didnt seem like he was spinning it to vilify Woods diggers, came across as an honest account. There was plenty of praise for TW, however he wasn't shy about describing his many flaws either, as a person and a golfer.

Re: Tiger's not happy...
Have literally only this morning finished reading my copy of the book. I really enjoyed it from the opening sentence to closing sentiment.
My opinion is Haney has done nothing that would leave anyone thinking differently to what they do alread aboyt Woods.
He does show he has flaws and why he thinks he has them but does back them up by saying in his opinion without them he could not be as driven as he is. It was a good insight to how he coached him and how in all honesty it was a poisoned chalice for him and Harmon. What is interesting is how much of a tool that Foley looks with his comments about both Haney and butch's teachings of Tiger. It also really highlights how good Woods win at the 08 US Open was.
But have to say my opinion of Tiger hasn't changed I still like watching him play and think he needs to grow up.

Re: Tiger's not happy...
He comes across as extremely self-centred. One instance of this was when Steve Williams flew from new zealand to florida for nothing because Tiger had neglected to tell him he wouldn't be playing the 2011 us open. Steve then asked to caddy for Scott resulting in their split.

Steve Williams is lucky that he is still employable, in many other fields he would have been cast aside based on the fact he may be harbouring racist sentiments.

Mac, it isn't illegal to hold any views you like. The problem comes when and how you express them.
The jury is still out on whether he is outwardly racist or not, and Woods himself has claimed he isn't so there is no reason why he shouldn't be perfectly employable.

The problem I have with this kind of stories is that both Woods and probably even Williams will have PA's and management company staff booking flights for both of them.
It's really not Woods job to be the messenger to advise Williams of his schedule. More likely some lacky failed to do their job, bit that's not as good a story obviously.

Re: Tiger's not happy...
either way tho SR. in football if you say something half as bad then you are forced to into resigning or you get sacked(obviously not talking about the players them selves- but then caddies arnt really the players).
I would say he is lucky to have a job, not saying he doesnt have what it takes to do his job. he obviously has. But in other sports he might not have got away with it

you would think that a player caddy relationship is way past just a business one. You would have thought it would be very normal to have a certain amount of communication between each other.. I am sure many are friends as well as collegues..

I'm fairly sure Williams was best man at Tiger's wedding, so their relationship was more than business.
