Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
First topic message reminder :
Interesting matches in a few hours. I am going to bed as usual but will be reading teh savvy comments when I wake up....
Gasquet v Ferrer....C'mon Gasquet!!!! (Yes I still believe in him! )
Allez Joe too!
Murray Kukushkin shoudl be interesting if Kuku has recovered and woudl be interesting to see how Djoko reacts when playing against the crowd.
Oh and not to look too much of an ATP fan...I know that Sharapove is playing Lisicky....I am 100% behind the Lisicki...

Whatever some may say here, I don't think Hewitt was playing as well in 2001.
He would love to have today's games with yesteryears fresh body.

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
Well done Lleyton.
He's gone toe to toe with Novak in the last two sets.
That's pretty impressive for a player who has to take a cortisone injection before EVERY practice.
And simple people think a young Hewitt wouldn't be competitive!

Wilander saying that Djoko is the newer version of Hewitt. WHat BB has been saying...and I agree. Well I have said that of Murray for a long time.

You can put him in any body and he will not be any better than he was at his peak and that will not win him slams. He is a product of a weak era due to injuries. Without injuries would have made the weak era at least a bit decent in strength.

If you can keep pushing then what seems to be irresistible might end up to be brittle. I think Hewitt will eventually run out of puff and Djokovic will win, but this must give hope to Murray.

What's the point? He will still lose

He can't have failed to learn something in the last 10 years - your suggestion is kind of what I was aiming at.

What a game, come on Hewitt. Djoko would be beaten today in 3, from all other top 4.

Hewitt is playing quite brilliantly, but Djokovic has found his second wind.

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
Hewitt more than holding his own from the baseline, if only he could improve his 1st serve percentage

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
Well the guy is a fighter, a good quality to have but that's as far as he gets. Lose of concentration from Djokovic there to give up the set.

Is there a button on Forum settings to ignore SA posts? Well there should be one. What a waste of keyboard strokes.

I think Tomic could learn a thing or two from Hewitt.

Ah man, what an effort from Lleyton. So gutsy.
I used to hate him when he was number 1, now I have nothing but respect

Novak feeling the pressure, the longer Hewitt can stay with him, the more the doubts will start creeping in

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
Would it be acceptible for Novak to call for a MTO now? Does there have to be some sort of proof that one is needed or can anyone call one? Umpire I have pulled my ssdskdsd I need the trainer to massage my ssdskdsd and give me a few tablets.

I agree - for me he's a bit like Connors was as an older man. I don't think Djoko is a latter-day Pernfors though.

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
I wonder how much of the 3rd set has taken out of Hewitt. Absolute super human effort. The Novak of 2 years ago would've collapsed after that 3rd set. It is good to see him still going for his shots under pressure from the crowd and Hewitt.

Djokovic not punishing the 2nd serve like he was in the first 2 sets. Hewitt with a monumental hold

Djokovic is acting very demurely - no fist pumps or come ons. It is said that he is giving Hewitt and the Australian crowd a lot of respect.

Interesting where this match is. Hewitt is physically hurting and Djokovic is mentally hurting. Both have hit their respective walls. I do wonder what will prevail.

Whenever I have seen Djoko play he's always been very respectful in his attitude towards his surroundings and his opponent.

One should never go against ones home crowd. Might need them on your next match.

Yeah hewitt is surely feeling it. Even if by some miracle he managed to level the match, I don't he'll have anything left for the fifth.

On your premise you've got to make Djoko favourite because there's nothing like knowing you are there physically to enable you to regain a mental edge against a wilting opponent.

That, surely, is that now 4:2 in the 4th and Djoko has not been under pressure on his serve this set.

Watching Hewitt is like watching Henman. The crowd so want Hewitt to win like we did Henman and against better opponents you wanted it so much, and it never happens. As cruel as pulling the wings off a fly.

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
Hewitt was never going to win (unless Djokovic injured himself) but he has done much better than anyone would have guessed, and gives others hope that Djokovic is not invulnerable.

Re: Australian Open 2012 - Day 8
Hewitt was a few levels above Henman. He pulled the win against Raonic and he has upped his own game several levelss for this.
If only Hewitt hadn't given away the first two sets that easily it may have gone to 5.
