Hero, Skrillex, was is Breakin a Sweat by any chance. Everyone on that tune now frickin Beeb blabbed it on that advert. Same as fricking Antidote. Stupid bleeding Beeb. Them tunes were banging last August and now everyone thinks there Cool as there listening to them, psssh nearly 6 months behind me and thousands of others who are in the know. OOSHYes I do lolripped them off like Nick does.
It was Breakin a Sweat that introduced me to them yes, but I got the entire album and its really good. Like Nero turned up to 11.
I was into Unicorn Kid, Burial & Crystal Castles long before they started getting bigger airplay though.

It tends to be some guitar based music from the 90's or 2000's and a smattering of older stuff. Oasis, Smiths, Libertines, Foo Fighters etc...
I have had to listen to a lot of Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull and Eagles stuff recently. Been having a few refresher lessons on the guitar and my teacher is big into those, so that it is what we are playing. Bob Dylan I knew I liked, but surprised that I actually quite like some of the other stuff too

Foo Fighters & Chilis I've seen 3 times each live. Both of which I managed to get front row for. Oasis also seen 3 times, Muse , Killers, Kings of Leon & Kasabian once.
Got tickets for Stone Roses in a few months too.

Funny you should mention the Eagles, I'd never really listened to them before but I pinched an album of my dads and I'm getting in to it now. Bob Dylan can be hit and miss, but I like quite a few by him.
I play the guitar too, but to be honest I find myself barely picking it up at the moment. I always seem to have something else to do. Maybe buying a new one will help...

I don't see the issue with mainstream-ism (someone mentioned BBC using Skrillex on an advert). It's a bizarre concept of music snobbery. If I like something then I WANT everyone to hear it. (although the music I tend to discover, everyone already has heard - and heard it about 5 years ago )

Learnt a smattering when I was younger but never had a guitar. My missus bought me a nice Tanglewood Electro Acoustic for my 30th, which got me strumming for a while but not enough.
Now she paid for these lessons 3 years later, so I have an hour every Wednesday where I play. Rest of the week I should practice, but it stays in its case most of the time.

I saw Oasis live twice, including at Wembley just before they split. Kasabian were supporting that day, and they were top class.
Muse disappointed me a bit, I was at Reading last year and they were on to close the weekend. It all felt a bit flat, but maybe my expectations were too high because everyone had built them up so much.
Best live show I saw was The Libertines in 2010.

I went to that tour too, Oasis supported by Kasabian supported by The Enemy supported by Reverend and the Makers at Wembley Stadium! 2 of us queued up from 11am with 24 cans of Carlsberg and a picnic in a carrier bag, therefore in the front circle and right at the front. Bloke a few rows back got covered in wee towards the end

Agree with this.
There's too much "I knew about them before they were well known" and turning noses up if a band becomes mainstream.
I really don't care how many people listen to them or how long they have been around before I discovered them, only if I like the music. In fact the more people that listen and the more mainstream they are, the more gigs they will probably do

Pixies were a huge letdown. One of my fave bands of all time for both my wife and I yet you could clearly see it was just all about the money when they were singing.

BTW you know if this was the old Beeb 606 you would have to add the word 'Football' so the topic was still relevant and the thread wasnt locked off. Remember that Viva.

Yeah, that was the one. I was in the second batch behind the front circle, but still a very good view.
We were being hit with what I hope was beer all night. To be honest it was a bit warm to be beer. I just had to keep my mouth closed and wash my clothes when I got in.

Queens of the Stone Age I've seen - Damn you Hero. I actually purchased their albums with real money from a real shop thats how much I like them. Trust me that means a lot, only Artist's in my CD Collection where I have ALL of their albums are Oasis, Queens, Jay Z and Eminem. I will pay if its worth it.

Coldplay are good but I really went because of the hype and everyone thought it was cool to watch them.
Rappers are the worst live, they are just shouting out words and after the 4th song thier voices have gone and you can hardly hear what they're saying. Jay Z is good though he had a proper band with him.

Re: Furious Football Association © : HomePage Season 2, Page 17
One I have seen live and maybe shouldn't admit to enjoying was Jools Holland.
That bloke is a really talented musician and it was actually a really, really good show.
Also have to hold my hand up to having seen Take That live and admit that, 1990s songs aside, it was quite entertaining.
If you ignore the music, the set and spectacle was the best I have ever seen.

QOTSA was a festival I saw them at tbh rather than exclusively them (though they were one of the reasons we went to the festival)
On the same gig was Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Faithless, Ian Brown, Charlatans, Placebo, Doves, Shed Seven (and Coldplay)

A friend of mine who has a very heavy taste in music shocked us all when his iPod shuffled on to Take That. It wasn't even a rogue song off a compilation, he had bought full albums!
I don't hate Take That, but I'm more comfortable saying that with the second incarnation than the first.

I'm serious - that's one of the things I've discovered since I started learning guitar. You'll learn a hell of a lot more about music and songwriting from learning a pop song than a Muse riff.
It's just snobbery. 99% of pop music is dire, but if you overlook it you'll find there are some genuinely brilliant, well written, well recorded songs.
Lady Gaga - you look beyond all the crazy crap, and the publicity stunts (which she has to do to get her music out there), a lot of her songs are so well written. They are superb.

I've been known to play Back for Good on occasion...
I'm much more likely to learn something simple and catchy than riffs or complex solo's. I'm not much of a lead guitarist, I tend to keep it simple.

She played the whole thing on a long trip in the car and I expected it to be horrible. It actually wasn't. I won't say I sat there singing along, but I didn't make her turn it off either.

I made the CD for our wedding ceremony, was so so so close to putting 20-25 seconds of Stone Cold Steve Austin's entrance music (complete with glass smash) before the first song, but bottled it! Next time...
