Six Nations Competition - Week 5
First topic message reminder :
This is the place to post your selections for week 5. mr-bryns-attitude has a 33 point lead going into the final three games from mystiroakey and Eclipse back in joint second. This competition is far from over though with all three games this week capable of going either way. This is probably the toughest week for the predictions so far.

Please add your score predictions for this weekend's three games onto the end of this thread.
The rules are as follows:-
- Spoiler:
- 1) Each week you will be asked to predict the scores from that weekend's games.
2) You will be get points depending on how close you are to the actual score. Points will be awarded in the following way:-
- You will get 20 points for getting the correct match outcome (up from 10 points last year).
- You will get 10 points for getting a teams score correct.
- You will lose one of those 10 points for every point you are away from a teams score. Therefore you must be with 10 points of a teams score to gain points.
- If you get a match score spot on you will be awarded double points. So if the correctly predict a matches score you will receive a maximum 80 points.
Example:-
Your prediction - Ireland 17-31 Wales
Actual result - Ireland 25-31 Wales
Your score 32 points
You would receive 20 points for correctly predicting Wales to win. As you were 8 points off Ireland's score you get 2 points for that and another 10 points for getting Wales' score spot on.
Saturday, 17 March 2012

Certainly don't think Wales will be putting that much against Scotland. If they write off Scotland like that, they will be in for a shock.

Found it pretty tricky this week. Feel there will be an upset in at least one of the games but have wussed out and gone with the 'favourites' in each:
Italy 9 England 28
France 28 Ireland 21
Wales 25 Scotland 11
Italy 9 England 28

Wales 25 Scotland 11

Greece to remain in the eurozone, the greenback to continue its decline, rain over much of Ireland and Scotland and scattered showers with intermittent bright periods over much of the Continent.
If you´re driving to the matches, please be careful with black ice on the secondary roads and do drink plenty of whisky as it´s likely to be very cold.

I want bonus points if they all come true (well we´ll read the whisky drinking as a given). Sod the rugby. I´m going to start up my own thread: Six Nations Meteorological Predictions.

Re: Six Nations Competition - Week 5
There will be a shock thunderstorm in Rome on Saturday that will involve a lightning bolt hitting the English goal posts as Italy take the first penalty kick at the start of 2nd half. The posts will be utterly destroyed and Italy will no longer be allowed to score through kicking, rendering the alleged improvement in English discipline pointless (pun intended)

I imagine you get pretty decent odds on predicting the time and location of a lightning bolt hitting.

I had all the winners correct last weekend, but some of the scores were a bit out!
This weekend I have decided to get my sports mad chum to give it a go. He is the sport guru come pub quiz time.
He thinks it will be:

So that's 31 from the 1st game. Slightly over estimated England's improvement (as in that there would be one)

Italy 14. England 28 (Italy looked better than before this week but I'm confident we can play much netter and score 3 tries)

Wales - 32 Scotland 20
30 points from game 1 (20 + 9 + 1). Mostly rides on the next one...

Regarding the France v Ireland game (likely to be played on either the 18 February or March 3), predictions made will stand. If anyone wants to make a new prediction nearer to the rearranged game just add it into a new post below.
I will still update the tables, with an 'unofficial' week 2 table, after the weekend but the 'week 2 winner' won't be announced until after the France v Ireland game which will hopefully be next weekend (hope that makes sense).

Looks like my weather predictions were as good as last week´s picks. Did anyone pick France vs Ireland to be called off due to a frozen pitch? Big points there!
