England retaining posession through 20 phases? Empty England retaining posession through 20 phases?

Some one said (Daily Telegraph comment) "Listen, we only won a third of the ball full stop at the weekend, an almost unprecedented situation for England"

But actually, England won about 50% of the ball - by definition this is always the case. It's just that Scotland held on to for twice as long on average. So many times England kicked away after about 10 seconds of possession, whilst Scotland attempted to recylce and keep running.

Wales seem to be able to go through 20 phases of play, and I've seen Munster and Leinster do the same. And what I've noticed is that if you can regularly cross the game line, after about 20 phases, you've got a good chance of scoring. England don't seem to be able to go through the phases. New Zealand tend to break the game line quicker and faster, and therefore need fewer phases to score.

Why can't England recycle? Is it a club coaching issue? Or is it the players will fumble (accepting a wintry evening in Murrayfield is not a great place for handling) or aren't fit enough? Or is it the management instructions?
