I'm hearing that Ferris has been cleared of it being a tip tackle, so is not getting a ban.

It's the right decision to be honest, as it wasn't a spear/tip tackle and for me shouldn't have even been a penalty.

With England releasing pretty much same players apart from swapping sharpless and simpson is everyone expecting same team? I can only see one change with Morgan starting and Dowson to bench

IRFU have it up on twitter that he got off.

Was a poor decision Pete. Like I said Sunday/Monday. You go down the park and watch the local side play at the weekend and you see tackles like that every game!

Dickson is fit and I wouldn't be surprised to see the same 22 go out in the same shirts again this week after hearing Lancasters comments on continuity.

I would have changed a couple, but from interviews with Lancster he seems very loyal, backs his players and sticks to his gameplan - you know Johnson would have recalled Flood into starting 10 instantly.

Hopefully Lawes and Tuilagi will get a run out this weekend as think we could do with both for the Wales game!

A bench of 16. Webber 17. Stevens 18. Lawes 19. Morgan 20. Dickson 21. Flood 22. Tuilagi v Wales would give us a hell of a boost after 50/60 mins. Could even squeeze Tom Wood in there.

Saw that Dowson was Eng's biggest gainer of metres in the Scotland game and Morgan was 2nd.

That's in the forwards at lest unsure of backs.

In one respect I am pleased that Lancaster has selected an unchanged team, as continuity is important and it is unfair to judge players on game, so they deserve the opportunity to go out and see if they can up their performance levels.

I am slightly disappointed however that there weren't 2 changes in the pack, as would really like to see what Parling and Morgan can bring to the party from the off.

Looking forward to the game now.

Understand the interest in Morgan but not Parling. He brings nothing except his lineout work from what I've seen, and the lineout was okay besides one steal from Hamilton and one not straight.

I think it's a little harsh to say that he brings nothing other than lineout work Steve. I am by no means a huge Parling fan and do have my doubts about him as an international forward, but I would like to see him in action from the start in order to see if my concerns are justified or if actually he has a better all round game than I give him credit for.

Parling offers a lot more than just lineout work. He has a good carrying game and is a good all rounder, not sure if he's Int class but I think the same of Botha. He always looks classy for Tigers and Lancaster obviously see something in him to keep in the squad ahead of Attwood, Robson etc.

I've seen nothing in Parlings carrying game at all. Averages less than a metre per carry in AP this season and in the HC he has made 3 metres from 13 carries in 3 games.

Lancaster has clearly seen something but I certainly haven't

Stats can be very misleading, particularly for carries.

Example.

Player 1

Carry 1 - makes 10 yards with 3 defenders hanging off him
Carry 2 - makes 5 yards with tacklers all over him
Carry 3 - makes 10 yards through heavy traffic
Carry 4 - makes 5 yards and ploughs over for a try with tacklers all over him
Carry 5 - goes back 25 yards as he gets gang tackled and mauled backwards as his team do not support.

Stats show 5 carries for a total of 5 yards.

Player 2

Carry 1 - makes 1 yard before being put down by the scrum half
Carry 2 - makes 1 yard before being stopped and being turned over
Carry 3 - makes 1 yard before being being tackled, knocking on and the opposition run the ball back for a try.
Carry 4 - gets knocked back 5 yards in the tackle before being pinged for not releasing
Carry 5 - makes 30 yards having been given the ball in acres of space on the wing and then gets bundled into touch

Stats show 5 carries for a total of 28 yards

Which player has actually carried better? Not the one who has the better stats.

I don't put a lot of store by stats to be honest, watching the game tends to tell you a lot more about a player in my opinion.

I agree Pete, can be useful for tackles etc but carrying is very misleading.

Garvey was down as having made 1 metre I think for the Saxons when he made numerous big carries.

Parling has a strong carrying game in the tight and very good hands. His lineout work is strong and he is a threat to the oppsotion throw which imo stands him apart form the other 5's. I can't think of a better alternitive.

Robson much better at every thing and has been the form player in prem.

England's backs did not make one line break last week according to stats and dowson top carrier !??? Shows how bad we are

Would say that we are potentially a good team though Mat if Lancaster makes a few changes and isn't afraid to bring back his better players when they are fit instead of continuing to pick guys like Dowson etc then I think we will be ok.

My concern is that we will win against Italy and then when we go up against better opposition like Wales, France and Ireland we will become unstuck - I'd have hoped Morgan and Dickson would have started this weekend and if Tuilagi, Wood, Lawes etc come through ok this week they all get considered for the game against Wales in 2 weeks time - if we win against Italy I dont think Lancaster will make any changes, which in my mind would be a mistake.

Bad comparison for me that Matt, to state Parling offers little apart from lineout and then bring up Robson is a little bizzare.

Robson is very good on his own throw but doesn't threaten the opposition much. He also doesn't carry well although is a strong tackler.

Parling has the same number of lineout steals as Robson and he's played less than half the games.

I'd say Robson was in the better form in the AP but Parling offers more. Seems Lancaster doesn't seem to rate Robson to highly at this stage but things may change.

Bowden and Thompstone joining leicester according to Planet rugby.

Good signings for Leicester, Bowden inparticular would work a treat with Tuilagi at 13.

How on earth can they afford these signings - amazing really, wonder if it means they will lose anyone at all like Anthony Allen? As can't see how they can have two good players that would start in most AP teams and one be happy with a bench spot.
