You can even pick your own team.

I think these types of stories are put together for fun
They are impossible to take seriously.
I personally find them embarrassing

Just out of interest is there an English version of the western mail?...Even as a Welshman I can't bring myself to read the tripe the fail serves up every day!

I only recently found out that Wales MAY have had another grand slam in the 70s but the Ireland match was called off.
They still had to beat Ireland of course.

The thing is the current side would always win, they did win 4th place at the RWC what did the 70's team do?

It's all stuff and nonsense..
I do wonder if I'll remember the current Welsh players in 30 odd years..
Suppose that's the test of time, class, worth etc, really
Wales yardstick is always the 70's team - England's arguably the early noughties team

And if it is what I think it is it was called off by Wales.
A period remember for the memorable quote by Peter Wheeler:
'We may be no good but at least we turn up'
Went down very well in Ireland at the time

The Western Mail is a national disgrace.

Before the famous 4th place at the 2011 RWC that is how the Welsh team was viewed by the Welsh public.

Easy Hersh, that one's more appropriate for the bickering thread.
Now if you'd said "in the '90s that is how ..." you'd have had a point

Two questions, Hersh:
1) How would you know?
2) Why would you care?

C'mon there was a feeling before the 2011 RWC that Gats and Co were on very thin ice at the WRU.

to be fair, the side from the 70's would be rubbish now, they're all getting on a fair bit.

Yeah by all accounts one of the few things we as English could be proud about during those times. And always something my irish girlfriends father brings up when i ask him whether he can think of anything positive to say about us lot!

Is the Western Mail the only Welsh national paper?
Do local morning/evening papers exist outside the WM web?

The Western Mail is the self-proclaimed 'national newspaper of Wales' but it's no such thing.

My dad told me about it too. He said the Irish crowd cheered and applauded the English when they came onto the field. Which is saying something, considering Anglo-Irish relations couldn't have been much worse at the time.
The Welsh and Scots refused to turn up of their own accord. It wasn't called off.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it was John Pullin who said that, not Peter Wheeler.

Christ. And the Welsh complain about the English media.
Is there a decent Welsh local paper at least?
