Best keeper in the prem
Tough one, Szcesney/Vorm/Hart for me, can't decide between the three however. Over to you.

Probably Hart.
Given and Cech up there to.
Have to say Robinson is a hell of a keeper to imo.
Some saves he pulls off are world class.

Hart easily, complete package.
Good shot stopper, handles crosses well, good kicking game and a good talker - top class keeper, well protected though.

Re: Best keeper in the prem
On current form you can't look past Joe Hart, he is the best goal keeper of his generation IMO and without doubt the most talent goal keeper England have produced in 50 years. Ruddy has had an excellent season and his performances have won Norwich some valuable points, Vorm likewise for Swansea.
Based on current form my top 3 would be:
1.Hart
2.Vorm
3.Ruddy
Bases on historical form my top three would be:
1.Given
2.Cech
3.Reina

Totally agree Krul has been fantastic this season, would be in my top five for the season so far, only behind the three I mentioned above and brad F

Re: Best keeper in the prem
Hart this season, but he isn't that great from crosses from the little evidence there is so far.
Overall Reina, although his form over the last few seasons has been poor for his standards. On form, he's the most complete keeper in the league.
Given and Robinson are seriously overrated. They are good shot-stoppers but that's it. There positioning is often poor, they're slow across their line (especially Robbo) and rarely come for crosses (especially Given). They both make 'saves for the cameras' but quite a lot of those good saves come about from being a yard or 2 off in postioning.
A lot of people might disagree with me on this but I think you only have to look at their careers and wonder why they've never played for the clubs challenging at the very top of the division. United spent years looking for a replacement for the Great Dane - 11 keepers they went through and yet no move for these 2 'great' keepers. Arsenal have had issues with keepers as did Chelsea pre-Cech. Yet Robinson and Given remained mid-table...

Agree with you about robbo as spurs fan I can vouch for that, his positioning is questionable but as you said a great shot stopper.
Given on the other hand should have got a big move, it look as though it was going to happen for him at city but the emergance of hart put a stop to that, IMO his loyalty to newcastle cost him his chance to play for a title challenging team

The fact that Tim Krul isn't on that list is simply shocking and informs me that the person who created this topic has a clear lack of any footballing or premier league knowledge.

That's exactly what i thought.
Agree on Given being better than he perhaps ever acheived but some players are loyal, just look at Shearer and Steve Harper.
Harper was a great keeper, but never got a look in because Given was always outstanding.

Pepe Reina for me - his distribution is world class and puts most outfield players to shame. I'd love to see a stat on how many goals scored he has a hand in.

Reina???? Seriously how many mistakes have crept into this guys game, I remember against Man City and on another occasion when the ball has literally gone straight under him into the goal. His distribution is outstanding but he's never been the top GK this season.
The top 3 this season are Hart, Krul & Vorm. I don't see how people can differ from this it's plain fact based on their performances this season, truly magnificent

Re: Best keeper in the prem
Id have to say top 3 have been Hart, Vorm and Szcenzny.
Vorm has been briliant as has Hart, Szcenzny has been questionable, but his saves against Liverpool, Udinise, Milan, United etc etc have been world class. Especially for a young age, looks to be brilliant.
Same could be said of De Gea and of course Tim Krul.
However, i can never count out the likes of Given, Robinson or Friedel.
Even Al Habsi and Jaskelinen who are fabulous on their day!

It's a shame you can only vote the once, eh?
Have to say Krul for me, the fact he is missing makes this voting system a little pointless to be honest.

Joe Hart is over-rated imo and if he did'nt have the best defence in the league standing in front of him he would conceed a lot more. For me the best this season have been Vorm and Krul but I did vote for Reina because I didnt think it was just for this season.

Sorry I completely forgot about Krul, when making this I was going through the alphabet thinking of people I missed out, I obviously missed K . I agree, Krul is right up there, he has been one of the main reason why Newcastle where they are today, although to say the thread is pointless as he isn't there is a little OTT. But, yeh your right, Krul is probably second to Hart on current form, he also has excellent distribution, whether with throwing or passing with he left foot.

Well when a number of votes are shared out to peoples second choice it will effect the overall scores. My guess is Krul would be a fair few peoples number 1 pick therefore a lot of votes have been have gone elsewhere. Pointless maybe a little harsh but it was a big name to miss out if you wanted an accurate vote.

Equally you get a chance to stand out if you get to make more saves and your errors get glossed over - I don't really rate Krul.
Hart is well protected but he is still a top goalie.

It's odd that so many people criticize Reina as a poor keeper yet Liverpool have the second least goals conceded in the league. Oddly, when I pointed this out on the defender thread it was attributed to a top goalkeeper...

Thirty votes cast and not a single one for Petr Cech. Even allowing for a bit of home club bias from some voters, I think that's significant. In my view, Cech has never been the same keeper since being injured in the collision with Stephen Hunt.

Re: Best keeper in the prem
What makes Hart so good is shown by playing behind a top class defence as it was with Cech and Van Der Sar. The concentration levels of those three was brilliant, having to produce one or two top class saves having had nothing to do for large parts of the game is the sign of a top class keeper not making eye catching saves all the time.
Reina was once up there but he's been very error prone for the past couple of seasons which seems to have conveniently coincided with a downturn in Liverpools overall quality especially after losing Mascherano and Alonso.

Didn't Joe Hart impress when he played behind Birminghams defence too? That was hardly the best of back fours.
IIRC, they managed a respectable league position that year, Hart went back to City and then Birmingham get relegated the next year.
Obviously not entirely because of Hart, but it has to have played a part.
He gets my vote.

Agree pretty much entirely.
My vote to Hart as not only do I think he is the most complete keeper but factor in his youth and he really is quite incredible (really wish United had got him!!).
Also, agree Ghosty's point about concentration being one of the biggest assets for a keeper at a top club. Look at Foster, was a fantastic keeper behind weaker defences where he was constantly being called into action but couldn't cut it at United when he only had 2-3 things to do all game. His lack of concentration cost him his '1'.

Joe Hart fluffs a save tonight which results in City losing, De Gea does that and he gets crucified.

Fairly isolated incident with Hart to be fair Hero, the problem De Gea had was the frequency of his mistakes at the beginning of the season, will hazard a guess and say he was at fault for around 7 or goals maybe more.

Yeah I know, it's more the fact that De Gea has been quality since he returned to the 1st team yet people are continuing to give him grief that he's lacking confidence and is a calamity.
I do also realise I've probably put the touch of death on him for tonight with that statement.

De Gea is showing more glimpses of what a good keeper he will become but even as a United fan i'm not 100% confident in his ability to deal with crosses as he seems to have settled on not coming for the ball which isn't the best thing to do in english football.

Think 7 is more than a bit high. Shows it was a guess.
With regard to the thread in general I would say Hart but historically Reina is definately up there. Hasnt had a great season by his standards and fault for a few goals but in general is an excellent goalkeeper.

Wouldn't say it is that high
2 against Man City
Liverpool
Blackburn
Basel
As well as more that I can't remember specifically.

ive not said reina is poor just not as great as people make out. liverpool are quite a defensive team this season they pack there midfiled with work horses and even wingers like downing and kuyt put a shift in defensivly. they defend as a unit and dont have many flair players (probably why they have so many draws at home) so i wouldnt look at reina being the main reason as to why he has kept a high number of clean sheets.
reinas shot stopping and kicking are his two main strengths, although like other spanish keepers he is shaky on crosses imo, every body used to critise liverpools zonal marking at corners as to why they were conceding so many, yet i watched them and balls were dropping in 5 yards from goal and reina would be routed to his line.

Re: Best keeper in the prem
See, I think there is a misconception this year that the reason Liverpool have struggled to score goals is down to playing defensively without any creativity, unfortunately that's not the case. The main problem is converting chances, which Liverpool have the worst record of by quite a distance. The chances are being created, just not put away.
I also think one of Reina's strengths is running out at crosses and punching them out. It can be a bit scary watching him charge out, but I'm always impressed by his success rate.
Maybe we're just watching different games.

when he is unopposed and nothing in the way dont think there too much problem but when there a crowded box he lacks the physical presence and height of other keepers to dominate the box. flaps at alot when pressured
