Re: Predictions for the weekend?
I've got a feeling Scotland might beat Ireland. Should be a cracking game. France should beat England easily enough but England do surprise us. Wales to win very comfortably over Italy, any less would either be a very fine performance and big surprise by Italy.

Re: Predictions for the weekend?
I have gone for Wales, Scotland, and France. I think France will want to prove they are top dogs still after the draw against Ireland. I think Wales will take 60 mins or so to get a real advantage on Italy. And I think that after their efforts last weekend Ireland may be tired, and Scotland have seemed to be growing through out the competition and this may be their chance.

Yes, first try they manufacture by not running into the ball with their eyes closed and getting a lucky bounce.
They started a few decent plays in their loss to Wales and were very close to actually manufacturing a real score.

maes, don't forget it's Wales with the problem scoring tries not England. Since 2000 England 188, Wales 123. 2 from 3 would be great going for Wales but agree is not up to England's normal prolific level.

Re: Predictions for the weekend?
Scotland will stick in for the first half. Then the scrum will start to collapse, Robinson's awful slections again, and the quick service from reddan will let the irish backs find some holes. 10 to 20 point win for Ireland.
France will have got a wake up call from Saint Andre and they wont start as badly against England. Bauxis will give them territory and after building a lead England may have to start playing wider than they like, leaving them open to the counter. Still no 7 in the back row will make quick ball hard for England to find. france by 10 to 15.
Wales at home should be too strong for Italy, although if Canale and Bergmasco (the back) are playing they may be comeptitive for 50 minutes. Even without Warbuton Tippuric will provide great balance to the Welsh back row. 10 to 20 point win for Wales.

England were even better between 1888 and 1903.
That must be some how apparent...!
Please excuse my thinking that current form was a reflection of a teams current ability.

Re: Predictions for the weekend?
All home wins for me. Can't see past that. Possibly would not be too surprised to see England win in Paris, as they are capable of having a hold over the French. Think Ireland will have too much for Scotland and Wales should end up fairly comfortable v Italy (after being involved in the usual dogfight for a while).

Please can the 13 people who currently think Italy will beat Wales post their thoughts.
Italy have a strong team and have done well in Cardiff before, they have picked a very experienced team, a canny pack very strong front five and there is nothing wrong with their back row.
What are your thoughts and reasons?

Really???
Most of the posters who doubt any ability of this current Welsh team rather wear it on their sleeve and make it their modus operandi on this site to repeat themselves again and again.
I think there are about five or six of them, I am convinced two of them have about three other IDs on here but that still leaves us a little short. Maybe I am just underestimating how many fake ids there are on 606V2?

Not sure whether that is even possible Maes, but irrispective of whether there are posters with more than one ID, it doesn't really matter.
What matters are those genuine posters prepared to debate their point of view.

Maybe they're working on the instinct that Italy are capable of pulling off a shock, and maybe some people think there's no reason a shock mightn't happen at the weekend?
It's not who should win...it's who people think will win.
BTW,I didn't/and don't vote on these crystal ball threads.

How can this have any bearing on England's inability to score tries now?
Most of the current Welsh players and a fair few of the English players were in junior school in the year 2000.
As for living in glass houses, I can remember quite a few articles rubbishing Scotland and their inability to score tries. That was pre championship, and mostly from English fans. It looks like even Scotland are outscoring you in the try count now.

For the predictions,
I'll go for comfortable wins by Wales and France, but a tight game with Ireland just nicking theirs.
Three home wins.

Re: Predictions for the weekend?
An ounce of reasoning?
Italy have a good chance of beating Wales. They've a strong team, they've done well in Wales before. Wales find them hard to break down. They've picked an experienced team, including Semenzato. They have a pack capable of opposing the Wales pack with a strong front five, and a good back row.
You said much the same yourself, fairfielddon?

Re: Predictions for the weekend?
I think Scotland will take a little more confidence from their game against France than Ireland will, so I don't see it as a foregone conclusion that Ireland will win. POC is a big loss in all facets of the game. Where are the leaders for Ireland now? Kearney will be Herculean at the back, Best will lead from the front, but it be nice to see Earls step up in the centre and show some maturity and leadership, he's not a newbie any more.
If Scotland apply the sort of pressure on the Irish line that they did on the French, this game is wide open.
Prediction: couldn't call it.
Wales should have, do have, will have enough to account for Italy.
Prediction: Wales to win
France have either been keeping their powder INCREDIBLY dry, or they're nit actually that good. I think it's the latter. No particular combinations that stand out, uncreative, not physically dominating up front.
If England can pick around the fringes and draw penalties, and Farrell is on song with the boot, I don't see any reason why they can't win, and I'd be pleased to see it. France need to learn that you can't coast through every game like in the World cup, and expect to win. That said, they could win by a hatfull if they switched it on.
Prediction: oooooooooohhhhh. England. There, I've said it.

Re: Predictions for the weekend?
You would have to say the teams to win this week end is.
Wales
France
Ireland
But i do think that no team can- or rather should not be under estimated.
I would like to think/believe that England can win in Paris, simply because they have done in the past.
Itlay could or rather may pull a suprise in Wales, after all they did beat the world cup finalist last year didn't they?
Scotland, could pull off a win against Ireland, but they would have to play top of their game for the full 80 minutes. Can they do it? yes. Will they do it?

Scotland were at home against a French team that cruised and stabbed. A French team that was iffy in defence but didn't have to try so hard for the win when it came. Scotland played very well (obvious threat to Ireland - no doubt about it) but the French team that turned up in Scotland wasn't anything like as agressive and committed as they were against Ireland in their home ground. French coach himself said that the Ireland game was the best his team have played since the beginning of the championship. Point is, Ireland forced them to. They needed to to try and drag themselves out of a losing game. They did so.
France/Ireland - France/Scotland were two very different games as far as real intensity goes. Scotland will be happy that they put it up to the French at Murrayfield - yes, confident. Ireland will be angry they let a win slide through their fingers - confident that their own mistakes at crucial periods denied them a win in Paris..

Obviously some people have been trying to Screw the vote up as the total vote is indivisible by three.
60 people have voted on the Wales vs Italy game. One third are with the Azzurri two thirds with the Welsh
58 on Scotland vs Ireland
57 on France vs England
