Hersh, i get that you might be worried by the (as you seem to see it) disproportionate number of Welsh posters on here unduly influencing your poll, but that's not a reason to exclude their players overs other (in many posters' view) lesser ones, is it?

Step back a pace. To the Wingers.
Was William Wavell Wakefield, 1st Baron Wakefield of Kendal ever a contender?
He was not only a great paceman but also left his initial legacy at the very hub of modern digital communications.

I don't regard them as anywhere near as good as what is already on the list for these positions.
I'm sure the Western mail has already run a poll just for Welsh players.
Can I just say that I'm shocked at the reaction of our Welsh cousins on this subject, get a grip.

Gibson and BOD. Dream pairing. They were voted as the best possible Lions pairing in history. Hard to argue with it.
The SH have a huge list to pick from also.

Yeah that would be a dream partnership alright Gibbo.
To me though, the Little Horan pairing was the best i have ever seen. They were brilliant together.

BOD and Sella for me, not sure if they'd work well as a pairing but are the best centres available there.

I haven't seen enough of all those up for selection, but from those I have, Horan would be guaranteed the 12 shirt, then a tough call between Sella & BOD for 13.
I would have liked to have seen Jauzion & Smith up for selection over a number of other players here.
At his peak BOD might have shaded it, but Smith is just as good and over the last 3-5 years I'd say the best centre around.

I went Gibson and Bod. Because they would have ripped ANY backline to absolute shreds.

There isnt a spellchecker on the forum (as far as I know) - its more than likely to be your browser (ie google chrome etc)
Re: CENTERS - Greatest XV Ever - voted by 606v2
Very poor list - not because there are no Welsh - but because its just very poor. Misses way too many of the worlds best centres. Did you just get lazy ? Perhaps you'll forget Michael Jones, John Eales or Willy John when it comes to the forwards.

Shouldn't there have been two polls for the centres? At the moment two 13s are leading, which isn't going to give you the greatest functioning overall team.
Horan should certainly be getting more support compared to some of the other 12s.

After going through a number of articles on this subject from various sites these were the ones who came out top.
To describe the list as poor is being very short sighted.
So I hand it over to you who would you pick instead Offload?

Wavell Wakefield was a back row player. One of Englands greatest players and an all time great (according to historians). Changed the way back rows played and led England to the first consecutive grand slams ever. In my opinion should always be in a best ever england team

I think its a fair list. I could possibly justify having a couple of Welsh on the list but i don't think I'd pick them above most of the players in the list in fairness. Gibbs is remembered fondly but maybe with rose tinted glasses. Bateman was good but better than Sella, Bunce or Greenwood? I think the list is ok and there will be welshman in other lists...

Hersh, I'm not picking an argument and I am not inclined to accept a handover. You listed 32 possible wingers and just 13 centres. Some of the obvious candidates are listed above. Little, Smith, Bateman, Jauzion included. It's not an easy task to produce a poll like this which is meant to be a bit of fun. But if you 're not consistent you should be prepared to accept a little criticism.

Everyone knows before even clicking that this kind of poll is always going to cause some trouble. If you are so worried about it just ignore it. Some of you have gone way over the top.
On the other hand I do agree that the list is a bit short given that there are two positions - not arguing about who should be on it just that may be more should be on it

Jeff Butterfield and Bleddyn Williams were two of the best of there era,not to mention Jack Mathews,Johhnie Smith, and W.P.C Davies.A list without Smoking Joe Stanley,Conrad Smith, and Nonu lacks credibility.
Currently I would rate Conrad Smith and Nonu as THE Worlds best pairing,NOT the best ever.Conrad Smith and BOD I would rate as current worlds best 13`s
Incidentally when fit Riki Flutey was the BEST Lions centre 2009,when fit as he proved in the final test. Also has been the best centre on offer for England when fit 2009 to date,

There are a huge amount of people missing from the options given here...especially considering previous polls.
I told a mate of mine once that I couldn't think of a better 12 ever than Scott Gibbs, he replied...'Tim Horan' in an instant...I went...'oh yeah'.
I love Gibbsy, being a Swansea boy he was my idol growing up, but it's certainly not a there's no Welsh player in the list thing...just a very short list for two positions.
Between four for me (in my lifetime) Horan, Gibbs, BOD and Greenwood. I think Conrad's getting close!!
I'm going Horan and BOD

Hersh - seems like a lot people are choosing two 12s and two 13s.
Maybe have two polls - one for inside centre and one for outside?
The main guys at 12 would be Mike Gibson (Ireland), Tim Horan (Australia), John Dawes (Wales), Jean De Villiers (South Africa) and possibly Will Greenwood (England). Honourables would be Jeff Butterfield (England), Jo Maso, Yannick Yauzion, Denis Charvet (France), David Hewitt (Ireland), Scott Gibbs (Wales), Hennie le Roux, Mannetjies Roux (South Africa), Aaron Mauger, Ma'a Nonu (New Zealand).

Bet you will leave Gareth Edwards off the Scrum Half selections next even though he is recognised as not only the best scrum half ever, but the best player ever by his peers....
This thread has lost the plot already....
C'mon Jamie Roberts isn't a great of the game.
and if Scott Gibbs hadn't scored that try against England at Wembley then people wouldn't regard him so highly, you can't put people in there for one good game and a great tackle otherwise Henson would make the list too!Gravell was considered but just missed out, this isn't an England ve Wales debate grow up people.
You can't please everyone, and the list has some serious quality on it already
Scott Gibbs is a dual code British Lion. Man of the series when the Lions won in SA in the 90s. How you can dismiss a career like that where he won accolades at the highest level in both codes is utter tripe.

If the 12 is anyone other than Gibson or Horan the team has no value to me.
Duckham and Roberts shoudl be no where near the team.
Nor should Steyn, Fourie, Giteau or Mortlock.
Nonu is comfortably better than all 5 of them.
I am old enough to have seen every player listed.

Mortlock at his best is surely a candidate? He was an integral part of the Australian team that came 2nd in RWC 2003, beating the ABs in the process, was a hugely successful captain, the glue of the Australian midfield and arguable entire team for years. He was a rock in defence, leader of men, great kicker out of hand and for points and a try-scoring threat. I agree Horan is better but to devalue Mortlock like that is pretty unfair, and I don't even like him
