Re: Wales v Italy U20s
Still no Lee Sampson from the Scarlets at prop I'm disappointed.
It will be interesting to see how 17 year old Dragons center Jack gets on, as well as Scarlets coach Nigel Davies son Sam at 10, and Luke Morgan the try scoring machine!

Italy try already... looks as though the Wales U20's have been taking tips from the Ospreys on how to defend...

Try for Wales, classy play from prop Rob Evans there, Gethin Jenkins would of been proud.

It's 10-10 at the moment Wales are chucking it about and going to town.
In fact they look reckless if anything.

Ahh try for Italy, nice move along the backline and not much interest in defending for Wales. He waltzed through 4 Welsh tackles.
Italy have a strong wind at their backs in the first half.

Re: Wales v Italy U20s
I tell you what this Italian fly half looks a fantastic distributor, very talented.
A yellow card for a dangerous tackle against the Italian loose head prop.
ah it's dangerous dudley the Irish offical in charge of the game, I have been quizzical of a few calls, now I know why.
Wales 13 - 17 Italy now.

Ok so about this fly halfs hair cut, is it a pine apple, a spike or a Rhino horn, what exactly is it meant to be?

13-17 to Italy at half time, Italy have a player in the bin for the first 9 minutes of the second half and Wales have the wind in the second half.

I do think Wales will still win, but they badly need some territory.

Yeah there is.
Italy should have another man in the bin (though the first yellow was harsh)

I said in the first round that this was the worst U20s team we have had and I was disagreed with. Now I know for a fact that I'm right.

Well played Jack Dixon. Don't see us losing this lead now, but jeez we are making hard work of it.
Hope the Seniors do a bit better tomorrow

Our Dragons boy has been the standout. Just another example of Regional experience leading to teams being better at this level. But this '2nd team' of ours hasn't had any backing from the WRU or Regions.

Very similar to the Scarlets last year, we were getting murdered upfront as well!

Whats with the under 20's format. Do they play the equivalents of the 6N at the same time.
Excellent idea if so. Be a good idea in the 4N I reckon if the U20's equivalent played the undercard matches

Yes Taylorman, it effectively mirrors the 6N. Usually good for away fans to catch an extra game, but Wales this season are playing their home games in North Wales, which is good for development in North Wales but not so good for travelling Italians.

Yes it's the same as the main 6 Nations and the games are usually played on a friday - It's a really good development opportunity and does bring some decent games

Wasn't it 10,000 for Wales v Scotland?
Hope RGC works and it becomes Wales' 5th Region, they deserve it for being real rugby supporters.

they are pretty poor, but to be fair if 3 players from each U20 year go on to be internationals then thats a pretty decent out come.
Sam Davies and Luke Morgan and the Loose head prop look pretty decent.

Frankly a dull performance tonight, very lucky to win. Who needs Castro when you have this generation of Italian forwards coming along? Massacred us in the scrum! Only real positive was Dan Baker.
Must be one of the worst Welsh u20's sides I've seen in a while, have not looked convincing in any game so far this year. Poor decision-making and a comedy of errors.

Re: Wales v Italy U20s
I visited Eryas Parc the day after Wales v England though still can't spell it. There was a rugby match on, on the Sunday, but it was rugby league! Crusaders were playing some team near St Helens.
The facilities were superb for a small ground and much improved since I ran there as a teen., and also when I visited 2 years ago. They have added 9 "executive pods," and a brand new stand, but there is an athletics track and huge distance between the bar and behind goal bar/changing rooms. A guy who work
ed there said they had 6000 for Scotland and was talking 8000 for tonights match. However he expected 15000 for Olly Murs!

just under 6000 tonight, pretty much a sell out for that ground isn't it? Not been there myself but looked full!

Re: Wales v Italy U20s
Alyn, there are more than 3 individuals that will go on to great honours(front row, back row, centres and fullback). They'll get picked up by Regions, developed well up to a certain ages before that said Regional team balls' it up! Sam Davies is crap and very overated. He'll probably get in the Scarlets team though because of his daddy.

I think Sam Davies is on the Ospreys books? I think you're a bit harsh on him. He's an excellent very natural kicker from hand and tee, nice distribution but he would have to bulk up an awful lot to play regional rugby. He's very slight and the days of the Arwel Thomases are well and truly over. Mind you I find it hard to imagine many of our u-20s forwards being big enough to play senior rugby either, we didn't have much height or bulk in the pack! I know they're youngsters but was still struck by it. I guess they'll all get bigger over the next couple of years.

Re: Wales v Italy U20s
Haven't heard of him being on the Ospreys books, I thought he was from Carmarthen? My judgement is on everything, not just his size. He has missed kicks at goal and simple touch finders throughout the tournament so I don't think he is excellent in any aspect. Got a long way to go before being better than predecessors Morgan and Shingler.

Pretty sure he's with the Ospreys academy, yes he's from Carmarthen but presumably it was felt it would be better for him to go to a different region from his father due to the inevitable nepotism arguments. Must admit I only saw the Wales Ireland u-20s game before tonight and part of the English game and thought he did ok, but 've obviously just seen the best bits! Just thought he had a very "natural" kicking style but that's only a small part of what he would need at senior level and I must have missed the poor kicking you're talking about. Agree though that Morgan and Shingler looked better all round players at the same stage.

Re: Wales v Italy U20s
Not a great game despite the turn out. It's not a short drive either but combined it with a few stops.
That was not the best welsh youth side I have ever watched. But I guess so many of our under 20s are playing for regions at the moment, or even the national team.

Poor quality & pretty fortunate win in the end but at least it gave the fans something to cheer for.
Are the Regions reluctant to release their youngsters then or is there a lack of depth or both?
