Re: Northern League - Week 1 - Voting Page
I won't be around very much, if at all tomorrow so I thought I'd set the ball rolling with the votes - and if nothing comes in tonight I will probably vote on Leics v Yorks on Tuesday morning.
Worcestershire v Lancashire
Meaker to go round the park early as he doesn't really swing it but Lee just too quick for Mustard and gets Jesse Ryder out with the short ball. Moore survives and, joined by Maynard, profits from some poor bowling by Andrew and milks Shakib for a run a ball. By the start of the 16th over Lancs have reached about 110-2 with Moore on 55-ish and Maynard 40-ish. Junaid and Lee prove formidable at the death though and dismiss Maynard, Napier and Williamson whilst stalling the scoring rate. Final score of about 145-5 seems short, particularly considering that they had wickets in hand ahead of the last few overs.
The Worcs. batting is full of quality and though Harris keeps the scoring down and induces an edge from Solanki early, Pietersen and Bell control proceedings against Napier, Payne, Smith, Marsh and McCullum and the bowling attack begins to look a bit samey. A big partnership of 135-ish gets Worcs close before Pietersen is caught on the boundary trying to seal it with a six. Bell continues and the match is soon won with over 4 overs to spare.
Worcestershire win by 8 wickets
Man of the Match: Brett Lee
Nottinghamshire v Warwickshire
Warwicks expect early wickets under gloomy skies but Rankin and Carter don't quite get things right and Hales and Rahane survive the first six overs and put 40 on the board before Barker removes Hales. Taylor, Warner and Hales soon follow to Chaminda Vaas, who should really have been given the new ball to exploit the swinging conditions. But Morne van Wyk, in an aggressive mood, and David Hussey, playing the perfect innings for the situation counter the big spin threat from Ajmal and Mendis. A late flurry guides Notts to a very useful 175-5 with Hussey unbeaten on 65.
Phillip Hughes doesn't get a chance to get out in normal fashion as he is bowled in the first over by a crunching Malinga yorker. Barker skies one off Fletcher in the next over to leave Warwickshire in all sorts of trouble. Trott steadies the ship whilst Taylor makes a good start before falling to Swann in the 10th over. By this point Warwicks are 65-3. Although Trott remains unbeaten on 80 by the end he has no support as Malinga takes 5 and Swann 3 and Warwicks are bowled out for 145 in the final over.
Nottinghamshire win by 30 runs (approx)

As long or as short as you want olly. As long as they say who wins and briefly why.
Re: Northern League - Week 1 - Voting Page
I have a little more time tonight than I thought I would so I'll get on with voting for the last match. I know my votes are a little lengthy - I hope that is OK - but I personally feel that running through the match creates a more realistic result than simply comparing the two teams and adding in the factor of conditions.
Leicestershire v Yorkshire
The Yorkshire opening pair battle through against Allenby and Nannes before Dilshan takes the key wicket of Cook. Mahmood falls soon after but Bravo and Sharma build the score to a decent 60-2 after 11 overs. Henderson and Bishoo then take control for Leics. with the ball as the scoring rate fails to get going. Bravo makes an unbeaten 50 but it is only two boundaries in the last over from Jonny Bairstow that take Yorks. to 135-3 after their 20.
Leicester's Sri Lankan opening pair get the team off to a flyer but Dilshan and then Jefferson soon after are removed by Bresnan in the 4th over. When the spinners come on Warne sets attacking fields - he takes 3 wickets himself and Rashid takes 2 to leave Leics. 115-7 after 17, with Sangakkara making the only telling contribution of 60. Trego and Henderson in with 21 needed off 4 overs. Henderson falls to Shahzad, leaving the tail exposed to Bresnan and Leics. fall 10 short despite Trego still being at the crease.

LANCS VS WORCS: LANCS WIN TOSS AND BAT FIRST
Meaker gets moore in the first over of the game caught behind. Mustard on the other hand thrives on having pace on the ball, and hits out. He takes Lee for 22 runs in his first over. Lancs race to 62-1 from the first 6 overs, with both opening bowlers being very erratic. Andrew comes on and gets Ryder and Napier. (spurised to see napier batting that high), whilst mustard keeps going, hitting everything thats thrown at him. Mustard and smith put on 50 in quick time, with marsh and muccullum hitting out late in the innigs to boost lancs up to 165. In the chase, Harris dissepaers with KP hitting the first 4 balls of the innings for boundaries, and plays the mustard role. Solanki falls cheaply to the pace and bounce of napier. Ian Bell falls next ball and worcs are teeterting at 12-2. Lyth and miller tick the board over, after KP falls in the 7th over for a well made 42. Yusuf Pathan gets bounced out, leaving shakib and the lower order with too much to do.

LECIS VS YORKS: YORKS WIN TOSS AND BAT FIRST:
Cook falls to allenby cheaply struggling with the damp conditioins. Whilst Azhar gets off to a flyer, opening with azhar was a great idea by the yorkshire think-tank. Bravo and Mahmood put on 50 inside 7 overs. However when spin comes on it chokes the innings somewhat, with boundaires hard to come by. Yorks have a lot of batting and it helps as they reach 150, which is a very compeitive score on this pitch. In the chase, Sangakarra gets off to a positive start, cover driving shahzad for 3 consecutive 4's, whilst dislhan falls in bresnan's first over caught behind. Hoever jefferson immediatly hits the accelerator knowing that early boundaires are crucial in tough conditions. Lecis get to 40-1 from 6 overs. Raina comes in and plays the spin well, however he fals in the 13th over to azhar and lecis still needed 50 to win from 7 overs. O'brien and Allenby both get quick 10's, Sangakrra plays a gem of an innings and him and trego scrape LECIS home off the last ball.

NOTTS VS WARKS: WARKS WIN TOSS AND BOWL FIRST
Hales enjoys facing carter and takes 9 off his first over to get notts off to a positive start. Rahane falls early to the bounce of rankin which brings taylor to the crease.Taylor and hales bat with relative ease until vaas comes on and removes the pair of them. With the ball not spinning warner and van wyk milk the spinners, before warner unleashes and smashes 70 from 45 balls before falling to vaas in the 18th over. With hussey gone, and adams for some reason batting at 7, a mind puzzler that, notts look gone, however broad and swann get together and both play good cameos to get notts up to 145. In the chase, Hughes falls to malinga in his first over, whilst at the other end, barker takes fletcher for 17 from his first over. Broad has to come on and rein it in, which he does well. He removes barker and taylor..Trott and johnson re-build, but johnson falls..trott trys to bat thorugh but he runs out of parnters, and warks fall 5 runs short..

Match 1: Worcestershire Royals vs Lancashire Lightening - Toss won by Lancs
Lancashire batting first make an solid total of 147-6 with Ryder top scoring with 53 not out. Lee takes three wickets for Worcester but Andrew goes around the park for figures of 0-43 off his 4 overs.
Worcester get off to a flyer with KP on good form making a quick 43. Then Lancs gain some control in the middle overs with McCullum going for 26 off his 4 overs. But with Lyth and Bell managing to keep wickets in tact with 5 overs left the score is 96-2. Leaving Worcester to require 52 off 5 overs. But due to some poor bowling by Napier and Harris Bell reaches his fifty and despite Lyth getting out, Yusuf Pathan come in and finishes the innings off with 3 balls to spare. 148-3 off 19.3 overs.
Result: Worcestershire win by 7 wickets with 3 balls to spare.
Match 2: Leicestershire Foxes vs Yorkshire Carnegie - Toss won by Yorks
With Yorkshire batting first get off to a good start ending the powerplay with only the loss of Mahmood for 23. 43-1 after 6 overs. However now the field is put out Bishoo, Dishan and Trego take control only allowing a run a ball apiece leaving Yorks at 83-1 after 14 overs. Henderson is on and starts to pick up wickets ending his 4 overs with excellent figures of 4-23. This leaves Yorkshire with a good total on a bad wicket. 135-5 off 20 Overs.
Leicester make a slow start with Dilshan and Sangakarra seeing out to first six overs but for 32 runs. 32-0 off 6 overs. However due to a damp outfield the Yorkshire spinners struggle to get a good grip on the ball, aiding Leicester to 73-1 off 12 overs with the loss of Dilshan for 39. This means that they require 63 runs off 8 overs. But Yorkshire take some quick wickets leaving Leicester at 87-4 at the 15 over mark. Now having to throw the bat at everything Shazhad and Bresnan bowl cleverly leaving Leicester stranded on 123-6 off 20 overs.
Result: Yorkshire win by 12 runs
Match 3: Nottinghamshire Outlaws vs Warwickshire Bears - Toss won by Warwickshire
Warwickshire win the toss and put Notts in. However the Notts openers get off to a flyer with a score of 53-1 off 6 overs. Rahane is out for 25. This brings Taylor and Hales to the crease who are used to the swinging conditions. They get Notts upto 77-1 off 10 overs. Warwickshire spinners then come on and suck the life out of the innings dismissing both Taylor, and Hales leaving Notts at 98-3 off 15 overs. However with Warner and Van Wyk in Notts make a huge charge at the end of the innings with the last 5 overs going for 57 runs. Leaving Notts with 155-3 off 20 overs.
Now the sky has brightened Warwickshire come out to bat. But there is still some life left in the pitch and Notts get off to a flyer taking 3 wickets in the first six overs leaving Warwickshire at 41-3 off 6. Taylor and Carter try to restore the innings and manage to get to 64-3 off 10 overs. But Swann comes on and picks up Carter and Johnson in the same over leaving Warwickshire struggling on 94-5 off 15 overs. Despite the best efforts of Taylor (63 not out) Warwickshire fail to reach the target of 156 due to the bowling of Malinga and Broad at the death and finish on 136-7 off 20 overs.
Result: Nottinghamshire win by 19 runs.

Worcestershire Royals vs Lancashire Lightning
Lancashire batting first lose Mustard and Ryder to Lee early on before the promoted Maynard and Moore stabilise the innings after Moore is dropped by Solanki off a ball that swung after being edged; and put together a decent partnership, taking toll of Shakib and the odd loose ball from Andrew. Meaker’s 2nd spell puts paid to Moore however, and Napier and Williamson nick out early to Meaker and Junaid respectively. Smith, Marsh and McCullum all play handy cameos however, and Worcs get through to a solid 155/8.
In reply Harris picks up Solanki early, but Pietersen and Bell score quickly through the remainder of the powerplay until KP holes out off McCullum. Lyth nicks out to Payne but Bell and Miller build a partnership that sees Lancs through to the 15th over not far off the target run rate when Miller falls to Smith. Pathan takes a couple of overs to play himself in, but Bell is set and keeps the score building until Napier yorks him at the start of the 19th, with Shakib falling 3 balls later. There is 12 runs needed off the last, but Pathan has his eye in and gets there with a ball to spare. Win to Worcestershire by 4 wickets
Leicestershire Foxes vs Yorkshire Carnegie
It’s a tough match to call this one, two good spin attacks on a friendly pitch. Cook starts cautiously, unable to get the ball to the fence along the slow outfield, but looking fluent. Mahmood goes aerial, finding the fence several times off the seamers before holing out once the spinners are on. Bravo and Cook continue to play the spinners carefully, before Bravo breaks the shackles in a brief flurry in the middle of the innings. Sharma comes out and plays well for singles initially, but also falls trying to go aerial for boundaries, and Bairstowe and an increasingly frustrated Cook fall to Henderson and Bishoo. The return of Nannes at the death is something of a relief, as Hall and Ali manage to find the fence twice each in the 18th, before both fall in the 19th to Henderson. Rashid and Bresnan manage to contrive 12 off the last over though, and Yorkshire finish on 132/7.
In reply Sangakkara and Dilshan get off to a good start in the powerplay, taking advantage of the field being up to hit judiciously over the top and getting through to 50 off the powerplay. However Warne picks up both men with balls that keep low, and Jefferson and Raina are forced into a very watchful rebuilding stage as Rashid and Warne work their magic. Raina does find the fence off the returning Mahmood, only to be undone by a low off-cutter the next ball, and after 12 overs things are interestingly poised at 85/3. O’Brien finds the fence twice in the 13th over, but can only block out Warne’s final over which is a rare T20 maiden. Jefferson and O’Brien fall in the following two overs and the new batsmen are left needing 30 off the last four. Allenby and Trego manage to find the fence in the 17th and 18th overs, and when Trego falls to Shahzad in the 19th the asking rate is a run a ball. Allenby and Henderson scurry some singles, and with the field up in the final over Allenby chances his arm and finds the fence at mid-wicket. Win to Leicester by 3 wickets with 2 balls spare
Nottinghamshire Outlaws vs Warwickshire Bears
The toss is key here as Nott are inserted, and are immediately in trouble with both openers back in the hutch in the opening 2 overs. Taylor and Warner have a few play-and-misses but with Warner having proved vs New Zealand that he can play in tough conditions the pair are able to build a 40 run stand until Taylor is undone by the wily Vaas in the 8th. Ajmal quickly accounts for van Wyk, before Hussey and Warner put together a stand, milking the spinners. The returning seamers at the end pick up some wickets with the ball still swinging but Notts’ batting depth is enough to get them through to 140/7
In reply a Malinga “special” accounts for Barker early, but Trott is ideal for this wicket, and he and Hughes build a cautious partnership for the 2nd wicket which ends when Broad runs one across Hughes and he nicks out in the 7th. The clearing clouds mean Adams struggles to find any swing, and there is nothing in the wicket for Swann, meaning that Taylor is able to accelerate the scoring confident that Trott has the other end anchored. The returning Malinga puts a cat amongst the pigeons by picking up Trott, Carter and Johnson in the 18th over, but it’s a little too late as Taylor manages to finish things with an over to spare. Win to Warks by 5 wickets.

I think Trott has only been out once so far! He'll win the averages for the EPL at this rate!

Match 1: Worcestershire Royals vs Lancashire Lightening - Toss won by Lancs
Lancs bat first and lose Moore in the first over to Meaker off a cracking ball. However Jesse Ryder really shows up and clobbers his first ball imperiously for 6 over Meakrs head. Him and Mustard keep up the pace and race to 75-1 off of the powerplay. Shakib gets Mustard but Ryder just keeps on going. Bringing up his 50 in the 11th over. KP is brought on due to Lee's expensiveness and gets Napier and Maynard. Williamson joins his fellow countryman and the two blitz to the finish. Lee is out of sorts and Lancs get to an above average score of 185-4. In response KP plays a blinder but no one can stay with him early on with Ryan Harris and then Nathan McCullum getting Solanki, Bell, Lyth and Miller in the powerplay. Pathan sticks around for a bit and the chase seems back on at 110-4 after 11. But disaster strikes and Smith and Marsh take one each getting rid of Pathan and Shakib. KP continues on to a great 100 but Worcs fall an agonizing 6 runs short.
Lancs win by 6 runs
Match 2: Leicestershire Foxes vs Yorkshire Carnegie - Toss won by Yorks
Mahmood got off to a flyer scoring 40 off of the powerplay but Dilshan, Henderson and Bishoo drag them back. A late cameo from Bairstow drags Yorkshire up to 165-6. In response Sangakkara and Dilshan just have one of those days and see off the yorkshire opening bowlers nicely. Warne and Mahmood roll back the years and Leics are in all sorts of trouble needing 21 off of the last two with just 2 wickets remaining. Luckily for them one of them is Raina who blitzes them to the target with a ball to spare.
Leics by 2 wickets.
Match 3: Nottinghamshire Outlaws vs Warwickshire Bears - Toss won by Warwickshire
The toss was absolutely key here with Notts having to bat in the worst of the conditions. Hales and Rahane fall early on to Rankin putting Notts on the back foot. They rebuild but Vaas is on song and restricts them perfectly. Hussey hits out at the end and they get themselves to 139-7. In response Hughes and Barker fall to Malinga but a sensational innings from Trott is what the papers are writing about. He paces it perfectly and although Taylor, Johnson and Carter only play cameos its all they have to do. Worcs get home with Trott unbeaten on 61 with 4 balls to spare.
