Italy actually won that fairly comfortably though. The Scots barely troubled the Italians all game.

Worst Scotland performance for a decade.

We didn't have a single credible attack on the Italian line. Not one. Not a single backs move in the Italian 22. In 80 minutes. Line out was a complete shambles, the tacticals were utterly awful, the team selection dire, the substitutions utterly nonsensical.

Italy on the other hand were well organised. Burton had his best game for a long time, Parisse was as heroic as usual, Zanni was powerful, Bortolami completely dominated us at the line out and Casto was an utter beast in the field. Thoroughly deserved the win.

I would do player ratings but to save on time, I'll just give all the Italian players and 8, and all the Scotland players a 4. I'll give Robinson and Townsend a big fat zero. I really am pleased that the SRU have done what they can to keep Townsend involved with professional rugby in Scotland. Our backs were really impressive today......

The substitutions were laughable. If Robinson wanted to fix the lineout he should have withdrawn Ross, whose throwing was the reason we were losing all that ball. Taking off Cross and Gray only had the effect of costing us in the loose. Idiotic.

Since Robinson has harped on for three years about how he has no intention of building a side, merely looking to win each game as it comes (although the players look more like theyre just trying not to lose), why O why was he given a new contract without a clause for termination if the results dont come? We cant get rid of him now, and are relying on him walking which he doesnt sound like hes going to do. You only offer those kind of contracts to someone if they are planning on building a side with a long term view, not someone with such a narrow and short mindedness as Robinson.

I just thought that Italy out 'Scotlanded' Scotland. Scotland have typically had a lot of possession in their games - excellent ball retention and a solid set piece - but next to no real attacking penetration. This game Italy got the ball kept it and mostly did sod all with it. Have to give them credit for the decent try - although coming as it did right after half time I bet the coach told them to keep running it wide and with one center down a hole would appear.
