First topic message reminder :

How on earth can he be ignored! Two more goals today against Wolves!
Second highest English scorer in the Premier League
Why shouldn't he be on the plane?

Generally speaking the best players are at the biggest clubs, but that's not always the case though and it certainly shouldn't preclude a player from getting called up just becasue his team isn't fashionable, in fact if a player does exceptionally well at a small club they deserve far more of a chance at international level than a player who just happens to be at a big club, aren't we supposed to pick the best players, regardless of reputation or where they play?
Holt has proven himself this season by scoring against the best teams in England, other contenders, who happen to be at some of those big clubs have had no such success, it's about time a squad was pick on merit alone and by that basis, Holt would be second choice after Rooney.

While we're at it lets concentrate solely on statistics and ignore the style of play and how to get the best out of our best players which Holt simply isn't.

I'm well aware of that you've said it enough times but there are lies, damm lies and then there are statistics.

That's because you are meant to pick in form players and Holt is the second most in form player by goals.

The amount of goals scored over a season doesn't really say much, except for those who score shed loads (20+), nor does it mean much if we can't tell how many were penalties, tap ins, goals scored when your team is already 3 up, or massive deflections and there are a few players who'll always fall into these categories.
I'd ALWAYS go for a player who scores a goal against Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. before someone who has a hatrick and a couple of braces against the weaker sides, if they don't score any against the top teams, going on numbers alone, we may as well pick players from League 1.
It's the same with defenders, it's all well and good keeping clean sheets against teams who barely score anyway, but clean sheeats against the best strikers are always great achievements.

BTW, I'm a Wigan fan, so know a lot about having crap strikers and often see just how overrated some players are who get paid £60k+ per week, just because they're at big clubs

Plenty of young players with huige potential (which is debateable with Sturridge anyway) dont end up staying at the bigger clubs or are an unqualified success during their time at a big club. SWP being a case in point.

I think there are quality English players who could be potential Euro players this year........at small clubs............

Peter Crouch - Stoke City - 13 Goals in all comps, 5 in last 9 - decent run of form - screamer against City.

Steven Gerard - Liverpool - Injured all season, now back in business, looks on his feet again and bossing the midfield.

Baines - Fantastic Season

Walker - Tottenham in top 4 so dont know - but quality.

Matt Jarvis - Wolves - Underrated

My England team for the Euros:

Hart

Walker
Ferdinand
Richards
Baines

Walcott/Lennon
Gerard
Parker
Chamberlain/Jarvis

Rooney
Crouch/Sturridge
