606v2 Mock Draft Contest
I know we have our own fantasy mock going on at the moment, but I remember last year we had a mock draft contest too, with everyone doing their own mock of the first round and the idea was to see who did the best at the end. From what I remember, the scores were never totalled up, but I propose this year we do it again, and I promise to actually give final scores this year, as I will have the time around the draft.
Scoring System
Correct player on correct team at correct slot – 10 points
Correct player on correct team at incorrect slot – 5 points
Correct player on incorrect team at correct slot – 5 points
Player goes within 2 picks of guess – 2 points
To clarify this, if I say Matt Kalil is going to the Vikings at 3, but he goes to another team at 1st/2nd/4th/5th, then I get 2 points. If he was to go to the Vikings in a trade down at 5, I would get 5 points as per the above scoring system.
Trades
Predict correct team moving up/down – 5 points
Predict both trade partners – 10 points
To clarify this, if I have the Bills moving up to trade with the Buccs, and that happens I get 10 points. If the Bills move up to trade with the Jaguars I get 5 points. If the Buccs trade down with the Panthers I get 5 points. If the Bills move down or the Buccs move up, I get 0 points.
Positional scoring
2 points for correctly picking the position drafted
To clarify, if I have a team selecting Justin Blackmon at wide receiver, and they draft Michael Floyd, I would receive 2 points. I have divided the positions up as follows:
Quarterback
Running back
Receiver (WR or TE)
Offensive Tackle
Interior O Line (G or C)
Pass rusher (4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB)
Defensive Tackle (3-4 DE or 4-3 DT)
Linebacker (Non pass rusher)
Defensive back (Safety or Cornerback)
If there is enough interest in this then I will be happy to cover all scoring, if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve my scoring system then please give them! I thought it up in about 10 minutes so feel free to pull it to pieces .
Remember this is only for the first round, although you can have trades including later round picks but scores are not affected by what draft picks are traded.
If you could just let me know whether you would be up for doing this, then if enough people do one of the mods could put this up as a sticky post?
All entries need to be finalised by 9pm Thursday 26th April (UK time!)

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
I saw last year's comp when going reading through the older threads and was hoping someone would do it again.
It was also interesting to read some of the comments on the players before last year's draft.

I remember mine being completely awful! Lol
If I try again this year I'll put in more time in to it and hopefully with an extra year of knowing different teams styles and more college info I should do a hell of a lot better.

Just noticed from last year I correctly predicted the Saints trading back into the 1st round with New England... albeit for Muhammad Wilkerson not Mark Ingram.

No offence Bambam but I was hoping from the title of the thread it may have been Graeme Swann's Cat returning.
I will definitely be up for this, got plenty of time to sort out my mock.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
Niner - Start when you want! You can submit from now onwards, and can edit as many times as you like, up until a cut off time which will probably be early in the evening on the day of the draft.
TM Moot - Just the first round, the second onwards is probably too random and I don't think I would have the energy to work out the scores for more than one round.
Derbyblue - Don't blame you, GSC was a great poster and I remember his power rankings being a real talking point.
Looks to me we have about 15 people so definitely enough to go ahead. Of course if anyone else wants to join in then they can do, the more the merrier.
Does anyone have any improvements to the scoring system they want to suggest? I was thinking about maybe having a positional points system. Say I have a team picking a pass rusher like Quentin Coples, but they take Melvin Ingram instead, I would get 1 point? Or is that over complicating things?
Any other suggestions welcome!

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
I do like that positional points idea. It means we get rewarded for correctly identifying a team need but merely got the wrong person. 1 point (2 at the very most) should be enough though.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
I think the point for correct position is likley to be hard to do in the case of "tweeners", however I think the idea is great for single point bonuses.

I thought that too, maybe instead of separating DE and OLB we could just call them pass rushers? But a 3-4 DE would then have to come under something else, unless it is actually stated that you were drafting a guy as a 3-4 DE? Getting a bit complicated though I guess

Guys can we make sure we have the teams for each pick too, looking at you here niner .
Also trades are encouraged! Noticed that no one has made any so far but lets try to get this as close as possible to the real thing

Just finished and updated mine, free agency has made this pretty difficult. I don't like how Jeffery, Fleener and Konz fell out of my 1st round but overall I'm pretty happy with it.

Just over 2 weeks now until the draft, hoping to see a few more entries to the draft competition. The draft is on the evening of the April 26th, so can I ask everyone to get their drafts finalised by 9pm on April 26th

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
Ok, here's my pitiful effort. I haven't even tried to predict Trades, but wouldn't be surprised to see the Vikes & Browns trade down out of top 10, and the Pack will trade possibly up but more likely down and out of Round 1.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
1. Indianapolis Colts – Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
No explanation needed
2. Washington Redskins – Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
They didn't give up the farm for any other position
3. Minnesota Vikings – Matt Kalil, OT, USC
I think there is a chance that they trade down because Miami are desperate, but if they stay here they take Kalil. Ponder needs protection
4. Cleveland Browns - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabam
Can't see Holmgren taking Ryan Tannehill as his first ever first round QB
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
Buccs should be very happy, now they will still have two good cornerbacks after Talib makes his next knucklehead move and gets locked up
6. St Louis Rams - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
Bradford needs help, Blackmon seems to be getting overanalysed at the moment, I don't see a lot of bust potential here
7. Jacksonville Jaguars – Stephan Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
As said by others, Gene Smith will take whoever he wants wherever he wants. Thought about the Eagles trading up for Cox as they have 2 second rounders, but probably too big a jump. One of the key picks that shaped my draft
8. Miami Dolphins - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texan A&M
Miami get their man
9. Carolina Panthers - Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
Panthers shore up their shoddy defensive line with a player who is being compared to Kevin Williams
10. Buffalo Bills – Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
Thought about giving them Floyd, but there is a lot of receiver depth in this class
11. TRADE: Kansas City Chiefs trade to the New York Jets, Jets select - Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina
The Jets trade up ahead of Seattle for the pass rusher they need for their 3-4 defence, Ingram has been slipping but I am sure that Rex Ryan will find ways to use him effectively
12. Seattle Seahawks - Luke Kuechly, MLB, Boston College
With Ingram gone, the Seahawks take one of the surest bets in the draft, replacing David Hawthorne
13. Arizona Cardinals - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
Larry Fitzgerald has said he wants him, I don't see an OT worth the pick, and whoever their terrible QB is this year at least Fitz can't be triple covered all the time
14. Dallas Cowboys - Mark Barron, S, Alabama
Jerry Jones will be sprinting (or someone else will anyway) to hand in this pick
15. TRADE: Philadelphia Eagles trade to the Detroit Lions, Lions select - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
With Gilmore and Claiborne gone, the Lions look to move ahead of the Bengals and pick up the third best corner in the draft
16. Kansas City Chiefs (from Jets) – Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
Chiefs trade back and still pick up one of their main targets, if he fulfills his potential then this is a great pick. They have too many holes to take Decastro here
17. Cincinnati Bengals – Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
Bengals give Dalton another weapon opposite AJ Green, considered Decastro but Wright will help improve that offence just as much
18. San Diego Chargers – David Decastro, G, Stanford
San Diego fills that Kris Dielman shaped hole with the best OG in years
19. Chicago Bears – Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
If Coples can learn from his fellow North Carolina alum Julius Peppers, then they will wreak havoc in the NFC North
20. Tennessee Titans - Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse
Jones is a really fast riser in this year's draft, the Titans have a need for a pass rusher and he seems as good as any here
21. Cincinnati Bengals – Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia
Decastro is gone, but the Bengals are happy to take Glenn at this spot. I think they wanted a corner but surely even the Bungles wouldn't take Jenkins in the first round?
22. TRADE: Cleveland Browns trade to the Green Bay Packers, Packers select - Shea Mclellin, OLB, Boise State
The Browns look to move back a few spots, and Green Bay make one of their rare moves up to select another fast rising pass rusher to go opposite Clay Matthews, before the Patriots or Texans potentially took him
23. Philadelphia Eagles (from Lions) – Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
Philadelphia take a solid defensive tackle to shore up their run defence, Brockers has a lot of potential so Jim Washburn could make him special
24. Pittsburgh Steelers - Donte Hightower, ILB, Alabama
Farrior has gone, Hightower is a very good player with experience in the 3-4
25. Denver Broncos - Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State
Denver was probably hoping for Brockers to fall, but Worthy is a decent fit on their defensive line
26. Houston Texans – Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC
I really wanted to give Houston a wide receiver here, but with the loss of Mario Williams, Wade Phillips gets another pass rusher to add to Barwin and Reed
27. TRADE: New England Patriots trade to the Indianapolis Colts, Colts select - Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
New England make their customary trade down, the Colts take Hill to give Andrew Luck another target, and hopefully the two of them can grow like Marvin Harrison and Peyton
28. Cleveland Browns (from Packers) – Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
I almost gave the Browns Weeden here, but picking a QB who will be 29 3 games into the regular season in the first round? If Hill or Wright were here they would have been the pick, but as they aren't Martin slots in to the right tackle spot
29. Baltimore Ravens - Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
Guard for a year, then centre when Matt Birk finally retires
30. San Francisco 49ers - Kevin Zeitler, G, Wisconsin
Considered Reuben Randle for my 49ers, if Hill was here he would have been the pick, but we are still a running team at the moment and Iupati/Zeitler should open up some nice gaps for Gore and crew
31. New England Patriots – Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama
Upshaw is the big faller in the draft for me, concerns about his position and athleticism let the Patriots get him late, Nick Saban is sure to have waxed lyrically about his guy to his buddy Belichick
32. New York Giants – Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford
Considered Whitney Mercilus here, as we all know the Giants love their pass rushers, especially with Osi Umenyiora rumoured to be on his way. In the end gave them the athletic tight end as the third passing option to replace Mario Manningham.
Just missing the first round cut:
Whitney Mercilus - I'm not a fan of the one year wonder pass rusher, and just couldn't find a fit
Janoris Jenkins - Character issues will cause his slide, but can see him in the top 10 of the second round
Doug Martin - Nearly gave him to the Giants, but they tend to get quality backs late in the draft
I am sure that I missed someone but can't think who, I only added Decastro back in on one of my final edits so feel free to pull this draft apart!

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
I have decided to do the positional points idea, the positions are divided as follows
QB, RB, receiver, OT, interior lineman, pass rusher, DT/3-4 DE, non pass rush LB, defensive back
Is everyone happy with 2 points for getting the position correct? This is only if you don't get the pick right, the maximum points per pick is still 10

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft Contest
It has taken me 2 hours and 45 minutes to go through my notes/ search through websites but here is my finalized mock draft:-
#1 Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
#2 Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
#3 TRADE St Louis Rams - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama (via Minnesota Vikings)
#4 Cleveland Browns - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
