If you're struggling to find players for your squad, use www.transfermarkt.co.uk and search for players from your country, it should give you several options for your squad.
Each country is allowed to call up a maximum of FOUR legends from days gone by (seeing as it's a fantasy tournament).
The definite rule on Legends.
Players who are currently still active can be called up as legends, but it will take up one of your 4 legends spaces. Also the four legends in your squad must be labelled as legends to signify they are your four legends in their prime. I agree that it might be better if it was purely players who had retired, but I will leave the rule open so anyone could choose someone from years gone by or recent times. It widens the pool of players to be honest.
For example, Thierry Henry would be the guy running around the MLS, but Thierry Henry (Legend) would be the guy in his prime at Arsenal. And no, you can't have two of the same player (one as legend and one as normal) as that would be stupid.
Week 6
Final - Germany 2-1 Italy (Ozil, Klinsmann) (Balotelli)
- Spoiler:
- Seeing as it's little over 2 months until the real thing, just wondering who'd be interested in taking part in a fantasy version of the tournament?
Basically, 16 countries are taking part, so if we get 16 participants (myself plus 15) we all get randomly assigned a country, pick our own 23 man squad for that country, then we play out the real fixtures for the Tournament.
You write out your starting XI, short tactics and substitutions and the fixtures will be voted on by everyone not in the same group, ie if you're in Group A you only need to vote on Groups B, C and D.
Pre-existing suspensions do not affect who you can pick, ie Rooney available for England, Toulalan and Anelka available for France, etc.
Transfers between countries are not permitted.
Quarter finals/semi finals/final will be voted on by anyone who isn't in that tie.
So, who's in?

No transfers Gav, but you can choose anyone who qualifies for your country, should be plenty of options. I may even allow people to swap countries after the draw if both parties agree.

I'll give it a go.
There should be transfers though, otherwise you may as well just pick the favourites now and generate the games.. I doubt you'd see many upsets/surprises.

How would transfers work???
Say you have one guy in charge of Poland and he goes for Rooney or Van Persie, he would have to give up the earth to get him

You say that, but 1. How would you do transfers between nationalities? and 2. There are teams stronger than other teams, but you choose your own squad, your own team and your own tactics. More emphasis on tactics than on just saying "David Silva, free role".

Re: Euro 2012 Fantasy League
There is still a limit to how good say Poland can be because of the national pool available. They won't be competitive for the trophy but they will want to improve their squad and maybe push for pool qualification.
Every side has different goals.
What I mean is that, if you leave it, Poland are Poland and no matter what the squad they choose is, no matter what their tactics are, they will lose every game and finish bottom. Not very appealing for a potential manager.
Transfers would work normally. Everyone will start with the 23 man squad from their country but they can mix it up. Maybe install a rule than you have to keep 4 starters from the home country to keep their identity.

Re: Euro 2012 Fantasy League
If you have transfers you might as well just do a draft of all the players from 16 squads. It just defeats the object of the whole thing

Re: Euro 2012 Fantasy League
Having thought about it, I dont think there should be transfers either. Kind of defeats the object of national teams which is what this game is about.

Re: Euro 2012 Fantasy League
As a side suggestion, why not allow Legends instead of Transfers? You can sign a maximum of 4 'legends' for that country?
So England could have Gazza, Shearer, Moore, Charlton?

Gav, I will number the 16 countries randomly, I will number the participants randomly, and I will get someone else to pair the numbers (or just trust me to do it).
There will be no transfers, I like the idea of legends but we will see.

Re: Euro 2012 Fantasy League
Good stuff.
Once you get the 16 sign ups I'll make a new sub-section for it
(Do you want 4 sub-sections within the main sub-section or just one big section housing all the teams? if that makes sense)

Cheers Dicey
Not sure to be honest Gav, might as well have all 16 teams in one section, everyone will know who's in what group and the fixtures.
I make it 15 participants, but if we're fortunate enough to have more than 16 interested then we can have a backup list.

Re: Euro 2012 Fantasy League
Legends does sound a great idea IMO. Would be hard to decide on whom though, go with proper old school guys like Moore or Charlton etc but then run the risk that no one has really sen them in action or go with more recent ones like Becks, Gazza etc.

4 Legends picks if you had Ireland would be very handy but with the likes of Poland you would really have to research who their "Legends" were

I'd bring in Duncan Edwards, the only player to make Bobby Charlton feel inferior. Such a shame he was lost at such a young age
