Fan Burnout!
Now we all know about player burnout in the modern game which has to be carefully managed. My query is "fan burnout" as I detect that 606v2 is going through a mild transition post 6 Nations. In essence are we in danger of over exposing our beautiful game of rugby. Whilst I'm always a little lost at the end of a season the months between tend to recharge me for the start late August and into the winter months with great anticipation. The season for me at the moment seems a little flat at this the most crucial stage!!!. When we finish the HC we have Baa Baas games, Tours and then back here for a brief fart and then we start all over again and then get the Autumn internationals. I am an avid rugby fan, it runs through my veins - but are we in danger of over exposing our beautiful game a little too much.

Yeah maybe we're just exhausted after yet another GS - We have a few welsh players in the French sides which keeps the interest going. Your lads should be well recharged post 6 Nations after conserving their energy
Great HC weekend for Irish rugby

If we could claw back the time spent on the Haka and Ireland's anthems we could probably all have a week off mid-season.

Or Devin Toner. They'd have to change "Shoulder to shoulder" to "Shoulder to ankle".

The politically correct term is short man syndrome rather than feisty.

Well that is the politically correct term probably smirnoff. Personally I'd prefer to be called short if I were (190cm) or bald rather than in follicle regression.
Some I do prefer though:
She hasn't got huge knockers. She is pectorally superior.
I wasn't s***faced. I was alcoholically inconvenienced.
She is not easy. She is horizontally accessible.
He does not have a beer gut. He has developed a liquid grain storage facility.
He is not a cradle snatcher. He enjoys generational differential relationships.

Re: Fan Burnout!
Back to the topic I don't think there will be to much burnout as it is not the same competition so renewed interest.
It can be hard waiting for the season to being.
The one issue might be the lack of bite/every game counts feeling at the start up until christmas.
After that you have HC Places, 6N, Knockouts and League

I love it!
The one I use when my (short) girlfriend calls me a giant (I'm 6ft 4 with George North shoulders and a Peter Edwards gut) - is that I'm well evolved!

Re: Fan Burnout!
Back to the topic - I think we are in danger of diluting the interest of the fans - from a Wales perspective we have been having a crunch run in for the Pro12 play off's but these are almost over shadowed by the Wales preparations for the next internationals which start just weeks after the season ends, then the Barbarians game is totally overshadowed by the Oz tour that kicks off straight afterwards, then you have a few weeks breathing space and then it's straight back into the league for a month and a half before the AI's - and look at the xmas Oz game it was a bit of a damp squib as the players looked burned out, the fans didn't want it as we had enough rugby with the WC and the club rugby and could have done with a break from int rugby

Re: Fan Burnout!
Surely one burns oneself out on these things. There's generally always rugby being played - it is a professional sport after all - you choose how much you watch and then fill the rest of your life in with other things
I used to watch only the 6N and world cup but I've slowly become more interested in the club game, watching now HC matches as a neutral even and being interested in Super XV games even as a neutral. I don't feel burnt out at all though as it's only a couple of years since I even started looking up club results ... but if I did, I'd just revert back to the International-only scene for a while :-)

Re: Fan Burnout!
Do you think the amount of rugby played by the national team is having a negative impact on regional rugby, Welsh posters?
Particularly in terms of attendance I'm thinking. There's always more test matches to save up for.

Definately, it really effected the regions HEC campaigns the fact that the regions didn't have their full squads together for a week until late Dec - also it was responsible for the shocking skill levels displayed in the 1st half of the season (as the internationals/Welsh Prem players were in and out of the team at different times from one week to the next)

Re: Fan Burnout!
i'd not thought of it like that, but fan burn out. i think i know what you mean.
i only casually followed the 6n this year. i've even lost a lot of interest in the celtic league, im sick of listening to all the regional woes at every match as the season drags on.
maybe i'm burned out. or maybe just bored.
i know when it started. a red card.
we were robbed of our place in the 2011 final because every one could see wales were going to beat that all blacks team off the planet. it was the final that was not allowed to be.
and then cuthberts double, triple, quadruple movement in the 6n.
in the league it was the scrum, again. another season of failed scrum after failed scrum, followed by a failed scrum until the ref makes some arbitrary judgement.
the game is in a total shambles.
not sure i can be arsed with the summer tests. maybe come september i'll be ready for more rugby.
see you then.

Re: Fan Burnout!
Ruby, my team Glaws have slowly burned down my enthusiasm as a fan during the last few games. We seemed to see the season out with a whimper, not a bang [unless that muffled clang was Redpath closing the door]. Still the great thing about seasons, there is always another one to look forward to, and I will be renewing my energy, and certainly my ticket for next season. [BTW, sorry to any Wasps fans reading this]
Before then I also have to reserve some energy for the England tour of RSA, when I may have to prepare to joust with Biltong on here.

As a Scarlets fan I've always laughed at those teams running around like headless chickens, wasting all their energy in the HEC Semis/Finals while our players are playing it smart and conserving our energy!

Not really, the regions seem to cater for one type of fan, and the internationals another (generally suits, or the folk you only see on here in autumn and 6Ns times).
I genereally start saying about this time every season, "well there is the DIY to do, and I'll take the wife/kids to the beach" but then come about two weeks after the final games of the season, I am counting down the weeks till next season.

Pocket burnout is something I'm suffering from rather than interest burn out. And that's definitely because of the amount of matches as well as the economics of the thing.
