Warren Gatland might stay in New Zealand.
I read somewhere today that New Zealand will do every thing they can to hang on to Warren Gatland.
Since he fell and injured his heels/ankles New Zealand should do every thing they can to stop him going back to Wales. Tane Randall says that the NZRFU should offer Gatland a chance to coach the blues.
Could this be Gatlands chance to get a foot hold in the All Blacks? Some thing he has bee wanting to do for a long time.
Or do you think that Gatland will want to get back to Wales, or the Welsh coaching set up asap?
Do you think that Gatland will see his contract with Wales through to the end?
your thoughts please?

After recent events I doubt he wants to be 'climbing any ladders' again soon.

He might see the Blues as a step on the ladder to coaching NZ but I dont think he'll rung away from Wales.

He needs to be careful if he does go with NZ before he suffers an even bigger fall from grace

The blues are appalling, it'd be one step up and two steps down, possibly more if he's unlucky.

Why coach a club side when he could coach the NH champions against the SH, thats a far better way to improve your coaching credentials.
If Wales do well at the next WC, Gatland could walk into the All Blacks job as I think he is a better coach than Hansen.

He'll have his feet up until they're capable of being used for walking again, then it's back north after the Lions tour in time to lift the 2014 6N trophy

I think he'll be looking to jump across from the Wales job to the New Zealand job when the time is right, as opposed to going back into the club system and trying to work his way up. Has he be confirmed as Lions coach yet? He'll come back to coach them and then have 2 more years at Wales to the World Cup, and I guess he'll make a decision after that. I think he'd be silly to go before, and I think Wales would have to be silly to get rid of him before the 2015 World Cup.

Find a link and post it. Rob Howley on the BBC website says the opposite, that Gatland will be on tour with Wales in some capacity this summer.

Is someone suggesting that a person in the ABs organisation deliberately damaged the ladder so Gatland would fall and not be able to get up again? Then in his convelesence, he would see the light and stay home? Dirty dealings, indeed........

You would think such machiavellian antics might do the opposite and Gatland and his family would escape to Wales.
I am sure he feels equally at home in Wales, it is very similar to NZ, though they have more sheep and we have more rain, only just..!

Sheep, rain and half decent coaches. Who could ask for more, NZ sure is great
I think you'll be searching all day for that media bite.

Great country NZ. Stunning will surely be back that way sooner or later. Lived in Auckland for a year or so back in the late seventies and did a lot of work there during the Americas Cups

Theres only two jobs in New Zealand that Gatty wants,The Chiefs and the All Blacks,at the moment hes more likely to get the All Blacks.

Good man. There's not been any chatter in NZ about gatland or even his unfortunate ladder mishap (just a small article). If there were any legs to the NZRFU talking with gatland, then it's been behind closed doors. He's all yours, enjoy. It did allow a few puns to be trotted out, typical Brits huh, funny fullas!

Re: Warren Gatland might stay in New Zealand.
He is certainly less highly rated in NZ than the UK. I'm sure he is ambitious enough to see the Lions as a springboard to a future home based career in NZ after his welsh tenure is finished in 2015 no earlier. Similar to Graham Henry.
I certainly can't see Gatland serving a third term, though should Wales finally win a RWC in 2015 we may all be singing "four more years" in a more chorused version of a post election republican party. (I wonder if the natural welsh socialistic tendencies are aligned to our natural tunefulness??).

I think you might find that the people that matter in New Zealand rate him very highly.

That is interesting to know.
I am sure he intends to head home at some point but can't see him relinquishing the contract and challenges he has presently committed too.

I agree, it has been said alot down here that at the moment he is onto a good thing with Wales, hence no one expects him to just drop wales and run back. But he will be watching how Hansen goes with a lot of interest.
About a year ago when I came on here, most of the Welsh guys gave the impression that they wanted to shoot him.

Well, yes and no. Let me 'splain. I got this secret info from a mate at MI5:aucklandlaurie wrote: About a year ago when I came on here, most of the Welsh guys gave the impression that they wanted to shoot him.
That was a psychological ploy by the Welsh fans to lull all other Rugby nations into a false sense of security intimating that Welsh Rugby was a shambles, riven once again by internal conflict, and ready to implode. And, therefore, Wales would be a pushover on the pitch. The results since that time speak for themselves: RWC semi-finalist. 6 Nations winner. Devious thinkers those Welsh fans. Devious.
Makes the minds at the RFU seem plodding and simplistic by comparison.
Oh wait............

... except for the ones he's fallen out with. With the Tew faction in the ascendent he might well get a call on the "at least he's not Dingo Deans" ticket if Hansen has to fall on his sword.

Gatland will get the All Blacks job either after the World Cup, or after the Lions assuming Hansen makes a hash of the all Blacks job.

If they want to hang onto him by offering him the Blues then that means he's been doing enough with Wales already. Stay there, do a good Lions tour and he's already on the shortlist for prospective All Blacks shot if it comes up again in the next few years

I think you have to be in NZ to become the AB Coach. Assuming Hansen is out by the end of next year then the next coach to win the WC will be Jamie Joseph or Dave Rennie. Hopefully that will be 2015 and not 2019.

Madge with his usual poo stirring article around anything welsh rugby.
Madge don't worry your little head about it wales are a good team with or without Gatland, he is good and has brought us in to the 21st century with a far better professional approach to our game, but hardly the pinnacle Wales will achieve over the next decade.
You just leave your worrying for england
