Re: Manchester Derby
WTF? do newcastle united think they are competing in the world elite of teams alongside Barca, Real Madrid & Bayern.....No! I just find your complete dismissal of nufc disgusting, especially as we've been a breath of fresh air this season and to be competing for a champs lge spot with 3 games to go is testament to the 'better than average' squad we currently have. If we've average what are Manchester united who we trounced 3-0 this season????
Also being in the championship two years ago has nothing to do with it. Its the same as being bought by the Arabs and in two seasons going for titles. Dumb.

If you've read the thread you will see I think this is the worst united side in a decade, we are very poor by our standards. The discusson was the relative strength of the premier league this year, hence the high reference point.
I dismissed Newcastles chances of taking anything from city - which they won't.
Really I'm not sure what you want here.

A little look at what the table may look like without referee error. Not a perfect science by any means, but a fair bit better than perpetuating media sound bites and myths.

didnt know you already knew all the results. The reason why this league is referred to as the 'best in the world' for a period of time is down to the unpredictable nature of it and the fact anyone can beat anyone. Once again proving your dumbness. Pundits and fans such as yourself wrote us off at xmas, wrote us off in january when we lost tiote & ba, wrote us off in february and in march.........but we were still there. We've only lost two games at home all season and Man City have lost at Sunderland, Swansea and Everton this season. Just because they beat a shocking Man Utd team does not guarantee a win at our place.
I actually want United to win the title because Mancini I cannot stand, shocking manager. To win no trophies and only possibly win the title thanks to united throwing it away is poor with the squad they have and the financial backing.
P.S - What are this weeks lottery numbers Ent

Re: Manchester Derby
I don't know what angered me more last night, the spineless, limp dicked performance by United, who usually flourish in these massive games, or the thought of Abu Dhabi City getting their hands on the premier league title.
Either way, I'm sickened.
United were completely out of their depth, and this comes from a United fan of 17+ years, I've seen some horrific performances from us in the past, but that one really rates up there for me in terms of showing no fight.
Fact is, we don't deserve the title if we can blow an 8 point lead.
Ferguson got the team wrong for me, playing Park who's not played in a long while, benching Valencia who had he been let at Clichy from the off may have done a job on him. Playing three in the middle reeked of defensive attitude and as a result isolated a below par Rooney as a result, who then opted to chastise the referee for everything.
It was a dark day for United. We'll be back, but for me, this one will rankle for a long while.

Our performances these last few weeks have been awful and we've paid the price last night. But city aren't an average team
There probably only Gareth Barry and Gael clichy (maybe zabletta also) were I scratch my head and think with all the money city have these are still starting
This city team is better than the united team that won the title last year

Re: Manchester Derby
Agree that SAF chose the wrong team. Agree that in some ways the Manchester clubs have had it easy this season with startling drops of form at times from Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea and Liverpool hardly featuring (except in the cups).
Also agree that some of the results this season have been wonderfully and exhileratingly unpredictable such as Blackburn beating Man U at OT and some of the recent Wigan exploits.
The Manchester clubs must expect Arsenal and Chelsea to offer more of a challenge next season. With Spurs, who knows? Liverpool? Possibly.

Pretty sure Modric will be leaving them. Adebayor will have to loeave cause the loan ends. Then they are left with a not so strong team. With Spurs, who knows?
Nah. You can't go from losing at home to West Brom, Wigan to competing for the league. Very poor midfield.Liverpool? Possibly.

Not at all. Don't know any United fan that would.

As a Utd fan I'm mixed on this.
I love that Utd earnt their success through astute business and marketing over the years to improve their fanbase on a global stage and that allows them to compete for players, yes people say Utd bought success and players in, but that was with money that Utd took through the turnstyles and in revenue, they never spent what they didn't earn.
But if given the chance now to have a Billionaire owner come in and bankroll the club to success then I'd have to say I'd take it as it's becoming increasingly the only way to compete.

Re: Manchester Derby
Only reason I mentioned Liverpool is that they could - next season - go on the sort of run where everything goes in and they don't keep missing chances/hitting the frame of the goal.
When you see Suarez - good player, awful human being - performing like he did at Norwich then anything's possible.
Can't see City not being a top four side and with Arsenal (possibly) and Chelsea (probably) likely to have better seasons, getting into the top four is going to be very difficult in 2012/13. Could it be that Man U will drop away ? Let's face it, they've been distinctly average for a couple of seasons yet have still won/challenged for the title.

john you really ought to read more carefully before posting. The "very average side" comment was using Ent's own words to ask him why we had no chance (in his opinion) against City . Do you really believe as a Newcastle fan I was agreeing with him?
For what it's worth I'll reiterate. Get something against Chelsea and this Newcastle side will have everything to play for when City travel up to St James's. There is absolutely no reason to think we'll put up as inept a challenge as Man Utd did regardless considering the average age of our squad compared to some of M U's dinosaurs and the way the set themselves up for the fight.
The biggest problem as I see it are there are so many glory seeking M U fans who don't appreciate decent football from opposition teams when the see it. They were outplayed by City but as being sore losers comes with the territory don't want to say as much. As a Newcastle fan if City turn up and do the business on us as well I'll say "well played" to them but we won't roll over and die like Utd did last night. So don't be surprised if there's at least one more twist in this season be it battle for 4th spot or the title itself.

Man City have beaten Newcastle the last 4 times in the league but 3 of them were at home. It'll mainly depend on Ben Arfa and Cisse whether they can win or draw. I don't expect Swansea or Sunderland to have any resistance against Yernited..Get something against Chelsea and this Newcastle side will have everything to play for when City travel up to St James's

The biggest problems are people can't handle any criticism of their side and that they don't read the posts in the thread. In this thread I have agreed with a poster saying city were the better side, said they have improved and deserve it and said Wigan outplayed us at their place. This gets ignored because I happen to (correctly) feel that the PL overall is of lower quality than a few years ago.
If you think Newcastle side that has just been completely outplayed by Wigan, have to go to Chelsea on Wednesday will take anything from a rested city side on a high gunning for the title you are deluded.

I have to say one of the reasons I don't like football is the excessive schadenfreude shown by fans. Far too many would rather see an opponent fail than their own team succeed.
(Before anyone says anything, the "Red Devils" in my username are a rugby team in NZ, I don't support Man U or any other football team)

My club?
City aren't my club.
I was born in Grimsby so I am a Grimsby Town fan, they are my club, all these United / Liverpool / Leeds / Chelsea fans who weren't born there and "decided" which team to follow (ie which team was winning things when you were 4 years old) are not true football fans, they are parasites and leeches. You should only support your home town team.
(The City badge is only there because I have an irrational hatred of all things United, by the way.)

Fans?
Don't make me laugh.
These people aren't fans... United have been associated with having a wealth of "glory hunter" fans, for years and admittedly, whilst not being from Manchester myself, I've supported them and been to games since I was a young, young lad, due to my old man being a season ticket holder. These people that all of a sudden have found their city shirts aren't fans. They don't have a bloody clue about that club or it's heritage. I wonder where they were in the days of Keegan, Royle and Pearce?
I was sickened last night by a lot of things, but the thing that ground my gears the most was their excuse for a support.

Re: Manchester Derby
I supported Utd since my Dad (a Spurs fan) took me to Old Trafford for my 4th birthday to see Spurs play Utd, Spurs at the time were a quality side with the likes of Hoddles, Ardilles, Villa etc whilst Utd had only recently come back up from the 2nd division.
He was hoping I'd see a triumphant Spurs display and I'd plant my support firmly under the lilywhite banner, unfortunately for him Andy Ritchie got a hatrick for Utd and we won 4-1, my decision was made.
At the time Utd were 13 long years since winning the title and it would be another 13 until they eventually did so I could hardly be labelled a glory hunter (although perhaps my intial support for them was due to seeing them win a game).
As I grew up I saved up my paperound wages and got myself a season ticket, nowadays with family commitments I can no longer go and am instead cursed with watching my local Macclesfield team. who have not won a game this year and were relegated from the league at the weekend.

I was born and am from Leicester, and whilst having a vested interest in Leicester City, it's always been United, it's how I was brought up. I won't allow myself to be chastised for that.
I put money into the club, go to games, buy their merchandise, invest myself into their games whether I'm there in the flesh or watching on television.
You can call me a glory hunter, a plastic, it means Poopie to me. I'll always be a United fan and won't be ashamed to say so.
