I think your being abit harsh on him to be honest. he has ability, and so many snooker players are flakers- its part of there make up

mystiroakey if he is world champion material he would have the weapons to dispense with Ali Carter (in my opinion). No disrespect to Ali as I admire his gritty determination and matchplay but Maguire is higher ranked and higher rated and often touted as a future champion well sorry but so far he has not shown the qualities I expect from a world champion.

Maguire seems to lack the determination , dedication whatever you want to call it to be a World Champion , dont get me wrong i think he is a good player but he hasn't so far shown me that he has that next level to his game.

Re: Who will win this years World Championship?
Well i backed carter to beat Mags this time. Winning world champs is about thinking your way through the event, or having the luck of being 100% on your game..(same with all majors in all sports).
any player can get lucky to be on prime form at the right time. so from that pov i think anyone could win one..
I do admit i would call him a longish shot to win a oen in the future- maybe a 6/1 shot. but i think if he gets the right draw and is on form he can beat almost anyone.

Spot on KingKenny. He is missing that final little something - an extra gear or something which he needs to show now in his semi before a golden chance slips through his fingers.

I think the mind is a big part of snooker. Higgins won last seasons tournament playing has B game but he just looked like nothing was going to stop him. Same with Graeme Dott. Underrated as he is, he mostly has a never-say-die attitude (although a load of good it did him this year).

he is just being outplayed by carter and in my mind allways was gonna lose this match. if trump had got over the line it may have a very different matter

So, i left work early to get home to see Ronnie v Stevens. Not sure i should watch to be honest. I watch the first 4 frames last night and Ronnie wins all 4. I tune out for the last 4 and Stevens wins 3-1...

Re: Who will win this years World Championship?
mystoroakey he couldn't ask for a better chance than he got this year to reach his first final. All due respects to Ali but in future years he could draw Ronnie, John Higgins, Mark Selby, Ding etc etc etc. All much tougher opponents than Ali.

Stevens off to a good solid start and hauls it back to 4-5 now.

If it gets to 8-8 after this session then Stevens is more than in with a chance.

In fairness Craig, Carter hasnt given Maguire loads of chances. Third session is where the nerves will start!

Re: Who will win this years World Championship?
Well the top seeds all got knocked out showing that they can play badly in the W champs. Its more about how your opponent plays over the rep of a player.. anyone can beat anyone.
the funny thing about snooker and especially this year is that we have seen plenty of games where both players have been choking, yet we have to have one winner!
Maguire is not gonna dominate this sport like many have said in the past, maguire isnt a screwed on fav to win a WC, but what he is is a brilliant potter and breakbuilder and if he feels on it one year - id give him a shot..

But potential world champions make the chances count and Maguire (looking at his scoring in the match) simply hasn't donme it and has even contrived to lose frames he should have safely had in the bank.

Re: Who will win this years World Championship?
afternoon all,
Interesting morning session. Carter looking good at 10-6. I think Steven has got to tighten up a bit. Carter has looked to smother him with his safety play and make him go for unnecessary shots to get himself some table time, and as we've seen, Steven has got increasingly frustrated.
Perfect start from Stevens. It was imperative that he got the first frame in my book, and even more important now that he can get a lead or depending on how Ronnie plays, can be level or 1/2 frames down.

How much of the BBC coverage do you get? The whole thing with Hazel or just the table action with commentary?

I really hate the way Rob Walker over does the introduction of Ronnie. I find it poor and to be honest, it doesnt look like Ronnie enjoys it either.

*whispers* He's the rocket *bellows* RONNIE O'SULLIVAN!! Plus his voice gets screechy. I really like Rob but I'm with you. I don't like Stephen Lee's nickname either.
The whole thing? Cool.
Good pot by Matthew.

Matt looks in the groove today. This will hurt Ronnie if Stevens takes this frame to level things up.

Be thankful you only get a tiny bit of his act on the tele. When you're actually at The Crucible (I know, I know) he's there about 15mins before the action starts trying to whip the crowd into a frenzy like a bad comedian's warm up act. All sorts of who's from Liverpool, Wales anywhere else blah, blah blah. Christ man, it's a snooker match not a pantomime.
Once is painful but by the time you've seen it four times you feel like watching the first frame from the bar just to avoid him.
He moves about like a drug crazed puppet on strings too.
Come on Matt!!!!!!!!! How do you like dem apples Ronald???

Great clearance from Matthew Stevens. He stole that frame from Ronnie - he should have won that frame.

The problem is mystiroakey that whenever another player hits a brreak-off with reds coming up the table it is pounced on as an error by commentators apart from when it is Roonie ..err.. Ronnie.
