First topic message reminder :

I don't mind Paul Walsh at all, there are at least another 5 on the Sky Soccer Saturday that are way worse. Thompson is annoying , Nicolas just as bad, Merson is funny in an are you simple kind of way. George Best used to be worst of the lot.
I always found Graham Taylor's commentary annoying , that was his voice more than anything though.
In athletics Colin Jackson is very poor as is Denise Lewis.

Arguments in the Fader household tonight!

Father English, Mother Italian, me & my siblings therefore half breeds the can't lose!

Off to Italy this week for a family wedding, I've told the groom to run a mile but he won't listen, so we'll see what the outcome is tonight to see what shirt I should be taking to Florence to watch remainder of the Euro's. I'm rooting for England obviously but happy to see Italy win also!

Well game time is upon us, I'll see you all on the over side of the whistle, but for now I can't think of a better time for these words. Even if they only annoy Super and his penchant for having a dig at the England team:

KING HENRY V:
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Sr I agree, they were awful.

Maybe Mac will now recognise what I said at start of this tournament about what a class midfielder Pirlo is. He orchestrated everything and his penalty was superb.

Be taking the Italian shirt to florence, and have to say I'm not unhappy at that., hope italy make final as the wedding is on sunday, that'll be some party

Germany will batter Italy Fader.

Germany v Spain final. Germany win.

Spain are on the wane, but still good enough to beat Gay Ronaldo.

I just heard Shearer say that England are 5th, 6th or 7th in the world. What a joke, I don't even think they are that in Europe.

England were not all that good, and Italy could not score, why do think they will score against the Germans, think they need a front man who plays for the team, respects the manager and does not play for himself.

Are England 5th, 6th or 7th in the British Isles? I know Le Saux and Le Tiss could put out a strong team for the Channel Islands. Not sure about the IOW.

Indeed. If Shearer's views are typical of FA people and ex- and current players (and I think they might be), it's no wonder we don't seem to be making any progress.

England have far exceeded their ability in this competition, it was embryos against men tonight, but they shouldn't be that disheartened, its more than they they deserve to get to penalties.

I wish people would stop talking about Cole being best left back in the world too, its a bit like saying vanessa feltz is better looking than cherie blair, not much competition around in that department. He's had his chance, get Baines in now.

Cant remember what I said about Pirlo but I honestly thought he had retired until this tournament started. Apparently he has rejuvenated himself at juve.

Maybe now everyone else will understand what I said about Gerrard and how he contributes nothing to keeping the ball.

Why do I think they will score? Same reason anyone thinks their team will score, faith in team, a desire to see them succeed and hope that they can deliver. Plus whenever the Azzurri have been shrouded in max fixing scandals they gone onto win the major tournament that following year. E.g the Paolo Rossi scandal that led to him returning to football just months before winning in 1982, or the 2006 team that included many Juve players that's were stripped of 2 Scudettos for corruption.

Just pure blind faith in the team. Though Germany are likely winners of the whole thing.

Mac: Milan released him as they felt his knees had gone, he then went on to create the most assists and completed passes in Serie A, becoming player of the season in the title winning team. I do agree with you though that Gerrards ball retention is pitiful. There's no doubt he can cross, but I've never seen him as the midfielder that's instrumental in dictating a game with his passing like Pirlo did. In fact only 2 english midfielders in modern history I felt could do that were Scholes and Hoddle, but look how often both of those got to shine for their country. Goes back to same thing England managers want an all action hero rather than a true playmaker.

Mac, I thought we'd established that I have been educated to a higher level than you on the old 606?

Anyway, it's not a case of education, merely a differing of opinion. By disagreeing with you, does not mean I am not well educated.

No doubt people will be even more feverish in their murray expectations now that the route to the final is "clear". Although I see murray slipping up somewhere before the semi's.

Rosol simply battered him. You kept expecting him to wake up and realise what he was doing but he provided a relentless barrage of hard accurate hitting which nadal could not deal with. He was simply outplayed by a guy who played a dream game - awesome, awesome stuff.

No he was just played off the court by some astonishing groundstrokes and he couldn't live with the pace. Brilliant, even Nadals blatant gamesmanship and cheating never put him off.
If this guy plays like that throughout the tournament he will win.

I noticed the wee barge nadal gave him whilst walking back to their seats between games, and the steady slowing down in between points , but not any cheating as such?

Almost cheating Ban, gamesmanship at the very least.

He takes longer than the allowed time between points, claims he wasn't ready when he was aced even though server dictates play pace, complains to umpire that Rosol's swaying puts him off despite his own repeated slow play and towel wipe downs.

He just couldn't live with the pace or power and couldn't even muster more than one word to Rosol to congratulate him.

Another sporting scumbag with no humility or decency. At least we don't have to see him bite another trophy in his trademark crap celebration.

He is actually a clay court specialist, so has more than just a serve. He was monstering the ball yesterday but you have to be realistic, they are not going to hit the lines every day and if you look at his career they usually dont. He is 26 so been around a while, Id like to see him back up his win with a few more as he totally deserves it but equally it would be no suprise if he lost the next round.

However, if he was only a serve he wouldn't have won 22 titles (including Clay titles), 9 doubles, not to mention the many runner up prizes he got.

If he won every tournament he ever won by winning tie breaks I would agree, but he didn't.

The 2001 final was the best tennis match I have ever seen.

dyna,
Highly recommend the Maybin fun - makes one wonder why he can't take such trickery to the course, beginning to get just a little disappointed with the trajectory of his career.

You mentioned Rock yesterday; if he is to play the next three weeks, he'll be a busy boy as he also will just have a week's breather (if he takes it) before Bridgestone and the PGA.

After the lord mayors show.....

Sister Sister, we have discovered a case of Syphalis in the convent.

Great win for Muzza, keeps getting tougher though. Was hoping he would get Del Potro in the next round who is made for him, especially on grass. Ferrer a much tougher cookie, hopefully they will play with the roof closed so he can get a bit of pace on his shots.
Still fancy Murray to scrap to the final but to be honest cant see Djoko having anything but an easy time to get there as well . The draw works out well for him in terms of a rest day, he has what should be a relatively straightforward match against Mayer in the quarters and Federer is increasingly looking like his age. Tough to see him not winning the whole thing again.

Can't see anyone but Djokovic for the whole thing and wouldn't be surprised if Murray comes unstuck against Ferrer.
