Minnesota House passes Vikings stadium bill
Well, the folks from AEG can use their fancy new 3D fly-through video to lure a team other than the Vikings to L.A.
Maybe.
Pat Kessler of WCCO-TV reports that the Vikings stadium bill passed the Minnesota House of Representatives by a vote of 73-58, five more votes than the number needed to advance the bill to the Senate.
Along the way, however, the bill was amended to increase the amount paid by the Vikings and the NFL from $427 million to $532 million. And the NFL wasn’t thrilled with that revision.
It’s not yet known whether the Senate will make a similar amendment to its version of the bill and, if the Senate doesn’t, how the $105 million gap will be reconciled.
So while the effort is still alive, it still must clear a few more hurdles until it’s time to get out the shovels.

So far so good for the Vikes.
I understand that the Senate now has to pass the bill and then the two bills will have to be amended and voted on by the House and Senate together? Am I right

No doubt the Vikings were just flirting with Los Angeles in order to get the go ahead for a new stadium in Minneapolis.

I don't understand why building a new stadium which is good for the local area requires being passed through government?

It has to go through government because the Vikings are only putting half the money themselves towards the new stadium and it will cost Minnesota taxpayers $500m.

Another step closer. The Senate passed their version of the bill last night.
So it seems the Vikes are just one more vote away from getting the green light on the new stadium.
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Senate has approved a plan to build a $975 million stadium for the Vikings, another big step toward the new facility it's chased for more than a decade.
The Senate vote Tuesday came a day after the House approved its own stadium bill. A conference committee will work out differences, and the Vikings are already on record against the House version for a $105 million hike in the amount they would pay. The Senate's version includes a smaller bump.
If both chambers pass the final product, the measure goes to Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton, who has led the charge for a new stadium for months.
The Vikings say they can't make enough money in the 30-year-old Metrodome to compete.
